  1. And, Vanessa, just to try to ease your fears...my 7 and 9 year old daughter and son had scopes back in August. They both did great. No problems at all. I'm glad you're going to a Children's Hospital. They are good at taking care of both kids AND parents! :-) BTW, Celiac was confirmed in both. I have it, too. Michelle
  2. I've had great luck with Bette Hagman's "The Gluten Free Gourmet Bakes Bread". My girlfriend gave it to me for Xmas (she is so supportive of my gluten-free-ness!! It feels really great to have that kind fo support.) I used to only use Manna from Anna for my bread machine. I still like it, but I've been having a ball playing with the bread in Hagman's book...
  3. Thanks...Penicillin isn't on either list. Yikes. I'll call the pharmacy and manufacturer tomorrow. M
  4. I had suspected strep throat last week. My doc prescribed plain ol' penicillin. I took 3 tablets over two days. On the second night, I had a flip out session with my kids. I got so angry, really yelling, like I haven't in a long time. I felt like Jekyl and Hyde. I couldn't figure it out. I started wondering if I got gluten somehow. I wondered if it...
  5. What was in your meals?
  6. Yes, yes, yes!!!!! I've tried to tell everyone here about this. It is so easy and makes me feel that I can have some of my "old" life back!! Enjoy!! M PS Made gingerbread cookeis with it this weekend! Awesome!
  7. Traveling to Phoenix next weekend. Any good restaurants for us gluten-free types? Thanks! M
  8. I also gained a little bit. (I was in the normal range for my height before, still am) My dietcian said that's good, because it means my intestines are healing and absorbing more. And, yes, emotional reactions to gluten are very common, as you've read here. M
  9. Does anyone know of a brand of cancdy canes that is gluten-free? Web search not turning up much... Thanks, M
  10. Manna from Anna is at www.glutenevolution.com or do a web search
  11. 3 words...Manna From Anna Make it in the bread machine on white, medium crust, 2 lb loaf. Nothing better, trust me. M

ARCHIVED A Good Doctor In Boston?

Did you get my e-mail? M
  13. I am very lucky. I live in the Boston area and got to see a dietician who has Celiac herslef. It was GREAT! Then, took my kids to see one at Children's Hospital and while she was pretty knowledgeable, I still knew more than she did. So, if you are in Eastern MA and want a name, let me know. Michelle
  14. If one was trying to see if lactose was an issue (a non-celiac person), how much dairy should they cut out? Just obvious dairy or baked good with dairy, too? Thanks, M
  15. Try a regular gingerbread cookie recipe, just sub in a gluten-free Flour mix (I use Bob's Red Mill) and about a tsp of Xanthan gum per two cups of flour.
  16. Thank you! I did a major cleaning and I think the culprit was a bag of coarse ground cornmeal. So, I hope this helps me. It's icky!! M
  17. Since I've startes using gluten-free flours, I've got little moths in my cabinets! I cleaned them out and they still return!! Anyone else experience this? M

    ARCHIVED Celiac Runners

Lara Bars are gluten-free. Says so on the bars and are now made in a gluten-free plant.
  19. So, why can't he drink beer? Will it be too hard for you to be around beer? M
  20. Manna From Anna has Montina in it and it's great.
  21. Joe's American Bar and Grill...not real upscale, but nice and down on Long Wharf, right on the Harbor. It's a local chain. I had my first meal as a diagnosed Celiac there and the waiter was very attentive and concerned and the manager came over and checked on my needs, as well. There's also a PF Changs in the Park Plaza, I believe. Good luck! Michelle...
  22. Can you send her food hot in thermos? They make some that keep food hour for 9 hours. Michelle
  23. I use Arm and Hammer, too and Rumford Baking Powder (Calcium Acid Phopspahte, Bicarbonate of Soda, Cornstrach from Nongenetically Modified Corn). Enjoy! Michelle
  24. This will be especially great for all of you moms and dads who must send gluten-free treats into school for your kids....better than any "regular" cupcake they might be "missing out" on!! It's my regular (well, my girlfriend's) recipe, and I just subbed in the Bob's mix and added Xanthan gum. I cannot tell any difference. Moist, dense, delicious! 2...
  25. Yes, make your own bread crumbs and freeze them. Michelle
