  1. The Breadman TR2200C is pgmable also. They call them "Personal Recipes".
  2. The mix i used needed milk(soymilk for me), eggs, oil and a tspn of cider vinegar. Another one i saw needed only eggs and water. (nonfat dry milk was in the mix) And of course, yeast, but the mixes come w/ a yeast packet inside. I wanna try some different oils now. I think olive oil will make it more like french bread. So you bought a Breadman TR...
  3. We really DO have to be our own doctors at times. Good info on a celiac DNA test here: Open Original Shared Link I think it needs to be used a lot more considering how often the bloodtest gives a false negative. https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodid=1023 I actually get chills reading your "I have a way to go before I can say that I actually...
  4. Interesting that it was yeast that made the last difference. I think sometimes ppl stop looking as hard for 'what else is keeping things from being great' after the improvement from starting gluten-free. I know i did. In spite of not feeling great, it was such a relief to not feel awful, that i kinda lost the perspective that 'not feeling awful' was still...
  5. Where's the science ? A list of rules w/ some technical terms isn't science. Pizza made me feel good before celiac disease came along. Don't these rules claim that such popular and longstanding dishes like strawberries & cream or a cheese omelet would be harmful ? I really don't even think such pseudo-science deserves a thread in this forum...
  6. Blindly following dr's orders to consume the poison doesn't do any celiacs any good. It is NOT necessary, and they'll keep on asking celiac after celiac to poison themselves until enough of us say no. The bloodtest for gluten anti-bodies is the ONLY test that requires the patient to have ingested gluten recently for the test to work. The endoscopy is to...
  7. I ended up finding out the sugar in my former fav peanut butter (skippy superchunk) was giving me trouble, so now i'm putting the all-natural (peanuts, salt) pb on a big fluffy slice of breadmachine gluten-free bread. (yes i said fluffy and i MEANT IT!) Oh and looking back at last couple months pre-gluten-free makes me think i was just plain crazy to let...
  8. No offense, but i think 'food combining techniques' are about as scientific as phrenology. Not that it never helped anyone to eat very carefully, but the food combining theories i've seen make no sense. Nature just doesn't work that way. Survival of any species would be greatly impaired by such specific requirements.
  9. You do know Puffins Cinnamon Cereal aren't considered gluten-free, right ? The Oats (ALL oats) are too easily contaminated for celiacs. I think it's even fair to say not just that they can be, but that most samples actually are contaminated. (i vaguely remember data putting it around 50-66%)
  10. I used to take those sorts of things. McD, if your recovery continues to resemble mine, u won't need any either in a month or 6 wks. I was mainly using a generic otc acid-reducer.
  11. Lucky for you that one of the 'best replicated wheaty foods' IS the frozen waffle. There are pretty many brands these days and i think all the stores we go to have them. The key to them is letting them defrost a little b4 toasting, and they all say so in the directions. Besides the great blueberry waffles in the morning, i really like T-joe's Banana ones...
  12. EVERYONE GET A BREADMACHINE !!!! I can barely believe i put up w/ gluten-free bread from the stores for 2 or 3 yrs. Just had my 1st breadmaker gluten-free bread over thxgvg, brought an extra loaf home, and b4 i finished it i bought a breadmachine. Given what i'd been eating from the stores i never IMAGINED the breadmachine bread would be so good. The...
  13. It's possible there's a different temporary problem w/ the honey-roasted. It is a lot of sugar, and it seems possible to me that w/ the diet changing suddenly and the villi finally not being bombarded by more poison, the whole system is in flux and it should be expected to react differently at different stages of the process. If i ate them right now i...
  14. Oh u don't HAVE to use a mix, but it's certainly easier. The one i used is a blend of a bunch of diff gluten-free flours, and for me it'd be unlikely i'd have that many diff kinds at once. I'm not much of a cook. I'm heading out to WhFds in a few min to see what types of mixes are there. And now i think my error on 1st loaf was that i didn't...
  15. GET A BREADMACHINE !! ENJOY BREAD AGAIN !! gluten-free bread actually comes out so good that non-celiacs are happy to eat it and won't even KNOW it's gluten-free if u don't tell them.
  16. Didn't the lab say anything about what the results mean ? I haven't heard of any site like what you're looking for. Which tests did you have done ?
  17. My fav list is at Open Original Shared Link Oh, .. . and . .. STOP BITING WAFFLES !!!
  18. Anyone w/out their own breadmachine should GET one asap ! I went thru all the gluten-free breads at the stores and even got to thinking a couple were acceptable but now that i've made a gluten-free loaf at home i can't believe i didn't buy a breadmachine sooner. I'd assumed gluten-free bread just COULDN'T be as good as regular gluten-filled bread but i was...
  19. The latest i've seen has McCann's blaming the trucks for the contamination. For bread, I'd supply the friend w/ a gluten-free mix. I love Bob's Red Mill brand, tho i'd bet many other are also very good. (just made 1st loaf w/ breadmachine and can barely believe i put up w/ the gluten-free bread in the stores for so long) Personally i wouldn't try any...
  20. mmmmmmm SO good. 1st loaf was w/ a Bob's Red Mill gluten-free mix that i already had in the cupboard. I even screwed it up a little and it turned out great anyway. (Didn't fully attach the little stirrer paddle so it came off after a few minutes of mixing, then i didn't know for an hour THEN after re-attaching it i restarted the whole cycle) I used a...
  21. Oh bratcat i was the same trying all the gluten-free breads in the stores and being disappointed regularly. I settled on the EnerG brand as the best tho it certainly needed to be toasted to be worthwhile. (2 types i liked - i think they make 4) BUT . . .. . i was in Portland over thxgvg and my sister made a gluten-free loaf in a breadmachine and it was...
  22. If i were you, i'd recheck everything for hidden gluten. Toothpaste, sandwich meat, mouthwash, pringles potato chips, vitamins etc. There's a VERY long list of things you wouldn't think have gluten but some do and some don't.
  23. Charlotte - Feel a TON better w/in 3 days by starting gluten-free NOW ! There is no good reason to continue poisoning yourself prior to an endoscopy. It's just the bloodtest that produces no celiac-diagnostic info when a celiac is off gluten.
  24. One tip. STOP eating gluten. The endoscopy is looking for damaged villi and they will not repair in 20 days of no gluten. I'd heard of docs asking celiacs to eat gluten for the bloodtest but this is the 1st i've seen a doc ask it for an endoscopy. The bloodtest results depend wholly on having eaten gluten regularly and recently and i've never heard...
  25. Looks like there is a different UK version of Lea and Perrins Worcestershire Sauce. I know i've looked at the ingred list here in the US and there was no malt vinegar. And i see it on the safe lists regularly. Europe has an entirely different set of meanings for gluten-free vs "naturally gluten-free" and they allow labels to say gluten-free when there...
