ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
tom replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
"Feel WORSE"??!!!!!!!! It was a no sugar, no yeast test to see if she felt BETTER! And I think w/ that magnitude of symptoms, 1 day is a decent test, tho admittedly not definitive. My hope would be that 1 day w/ zero or markedly less nausea would easily lead to 3+ days and all symptoms decreasing. -

I was incredibly sensitive to mold, and still sensitive enough to take great measures to avoid it. I'd get dizzy just sniffing near an open jar of dried herbs/spices. But I *never* had a problem w/ almond butter. As long as it's vacuum-packed and refrigerated after opening, I think it's very safe for the mold-sensitive. I suppose I might think differently... -

The Rice Dream boxes used to specifically say some small % of barley malt used. It was listed under the ingred list - like the law allows tiny % ingred to be left off the ingred list. 3 days ago I was at the store holding 2 Rice Dream boxes - one with the barley malt warning and one w/out. The barley warning had been on their packaging for years. But... -

ARCHIVED Do You Retry Foods That You Know Makes You Feel Blaw?
tom replied to LoveBeingATwin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds like u, like most of us, suffered from celiac for quite a while before getting it figured out and going gluten-free. In most of these cases, the collateral damage on the battlefield of the gut is the intestinal walls, increasing the permeability. It's the well-known leaky-gut syndrome. What happens is that partially digested food particles can... -

Well, Julie, the question is (if u do have candida), do u love the sugar more than u hate the nausea, D & depression? Also, the muffins certainly have yeast. So if u do have candida, the sugar & yeast are just feeding it. Making it stronger. Gotta starve it to kill it. I know it's not easy. Candida makes for some intense cravings. But imagine... -

Aaaaaaaaagh!!! No vinegar at all for candida!! Freshly-squeezed lemon juice is a good sub in most applications. Fresh herbs are great in the anti-candida diet. I just about revel in the smell while chopping them. And the chop&freeze will be fine. I keep meaning to do that. -

A candida test was negative or none was done? I don't recall right now what tests were most accurate. If I were u, I'd go ahead and do 1 day w/ no sugar. See what happens w/ 1 day and how u feel the next morning. I'm sure you'll think about bananas the entire time and it might be more doable on the day after u run out of them. Same for the berry bars... -

It's bad for someone w/ Candida. All of my recent posts were candida-related. Whatever it is that changes w/ heat is why I can only use extra-virgin olive oil, aka cold-pressed or expeller-pressed. The other olive oils had heat used in getting it out of those stubborn little olives. -

Oh Jenny one more thing I've gotta ask. Have u been up to Hatcher Pass? My brother was Chief Ranger up there. -

1) I *love* broc&cauli w/ just salt&pepper and lemon juice I squeeze over it. Just about anything else on it falls into the bad category for candida. 2) The egg uncertainty could be caused by what they're cooked in. Can't use butter, margarine or olive oil etc. Heated olive oil becomes bad olive oil. I use safflower oil mostly. Sunflower is ok... -

It was extra-virgin olive oil right? Anything else is trouble. I do feel a ton better. I went to a pretty good, tho sometimes difficult, naturopath who got me on some pills & powders and helped w/ the diet some. I wish she'd helped w/ the diet more. I mostly used food lists from books and online. And they all have some conflicts w/ each other... -

Jenny, How about salmon? It doesn't get much better than Alaskan in the summer. The Copper River reds are in I hear. Sockeye from Ak is my fav by far. Fresh-squeezed lemon juice (I always have lemons handy since candida) and crushed garlic (again, always have some), sea salt, freshly ground pepper & broiled just enough to still be a little wet... -

Jenny, Red sweet pepper means bell pepper right? Even those were too sweet for me, tho the green were fine. I still remember the 1st red one I'd had - just a few months ago. Felt almost like I was eating candy! Hehehehhhehe And the candida books & lists often said that somehow the cucumber skin is bad, tho the rest fine. Wow u REALLY have a tough... -

Mmmmmmmm ham. I haven't had ham or bananas or watermelon etc for ~2yrs. A banana is one of the sweetest fruits there is. And all melons are off-limits if u think u have candida. The first fruits to reintroduce are apples pears and some berries. (Wish I remembered which) One thing that worked great for me was almond butter. The single ingred kind... -
You go girl!! I've found it works well to say, w/ an almost laughing smile, "oh no I can't eat that. Wish I could". Hard to do while feeling crappy tho. I always eat before going to anything w/ food.

Wow there was a lot of ice cream talk a couple pages back. I haven't had real ice cream in at least 2 1/2 yrs. And for a long while a good buddy was manager of the Ben & Jerry's a block away! I left a lotta free ice cream on the table there. I might have to scroll past ice cream talk as quickly as I do the occasional womanly issue here! LOL Well, I... -

I agree on the IBS & anything else that ends in syndrome. There's never a cause w/ these alleged diagnoses. Makes me wonder if before xrays they'd call a slightly fractured arm Painful Arm Syndrome. Seems some doctors figure they can give it a name and shout "NEXT!". -

Hmmm I'll answer to either. Not sure which acct I want to use. I suppose there's a certain cachet to a lower member #, but not so much to me. I'd turned on the pc to check out food/symptom diary from aug/sep '05, when I was last feeling great. Mentally anyway. And ran into old links to threads here that I knew I'd posted in. Bingo! There I was. Then... -
