ARCHIVED Amstel Light
tom replied to WayneB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
christtheking - It's not just beer from wheat. Budweiser doesn't use wheat, they're rice. BUT they all still use barley. Same for all the japanese rice beers. It's the barley. I'm hoping to try one (ok both) of the truly gluten-free beers that came out this yr. I think they may technically be mead since there is no barley. But i've heard only good things... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Food Lists
tom replied to bklyn's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My guess is bklyn is speaking of the 50+ page pdf. Biggest list around. Open Original Shared Link If so, I'd save the pdf to my hard drive 1st. I often highlight a section and copy/paste it into a new text file, whether for printing or just to create an abridged list, leaving out the things i don't care about. bklyn ? Is there anyone there w/ more... -
ARCHIVED Safe Alcohol

I have multiple sources stating that smirnoff is from corn, and is ok. -
celiac3270 ? Did you not have any positive changes in any symptom w/in the 1st couple wks of starting gluten-free ? (and ftr, i was not trying to diagnose anything. My point was to start gluten-free immed, THEN think about which tests when etc.) Hi again McD - glad to see you feel better already.

ARCHIVED Three Months Gf With Zero Results
tom replied to marielynor's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Interesting that you mention cheese. I recently found that the origins of the words casein and cheese are identical in latin et al. Maybe it's only the lactose for you. You can just take the lactase pill and not even further change your diet. In Germany you'll want to bring something like this. Open Original Shared Link And a couple other potentially... -
Hi McDougall, You nearly made me think i was reading MY story. I've never understood the perfume reaction but ugh i'd walk up 20 flights b4 riding in an elev w/ the wrong perfume. I've been gluten-free about 11 mos and now feel 1000x better than during that last month b4 starting gluten-free. (2ton nausea, migraines, vertigo, bone pain, periods of overall...

ARCHIVED Help-what Is Wrong With Me?
tom replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
After everything else had gotten better but i still had headaches, i stopped eating sugary foods also and the headaches went away. Just a couple weeks ago this happened. I've tested it a couple times; candy bar or something after 2 days or more w/ minimal sugar and each time i got the worst headache since the LAST time i tested ! hehe i guess i'm done testing... -
ARCHIVED Gf Hard Cider?
tom replied to christtheking's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I haven't tried that many but the 6 or so i have had were all pretty good. Of course, the most expensive one turned out to be most flavorful (3 witches). grrr but seriously most are gluten-free, and the ones i've seen that weren't gluten-free were easy to distinguish by the ingred list on the bottle. Seems they all list ingred, unlike most alcohol products... -

Try totally dairy-free for a couple days. I got a ton better w/ gluten-free, but also excluding dairy made me glad to be alive. Open Original Shared Link I've only heard of 2 margarines w/out whey - one is Nucoa. And sodium caseinate shows up too often in products that are lactose-free and called "non-dairy". They are NOT non-dairy. It's worth a shot... -
Is Nausea A Symptom Of Celiac?
tom replied to spaz-bubble's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Incredible to me that the GP could possibly claim nausea wasn't a celiac symptom. It was constant and unrelenting for me for a very long time. It got 30x better when I 1st went 100% gluten-free, and then nearly disappeared when I also went dairy-free. (not just lactose, even alleged 'non-dairy' creamers have a milk derivative) It wasn't until I started... -
I recently got a palm zire72 model and just love it. I'd been keeping lists and web bkmrks on a sidekick device (awesome mobile web) but it was missing one crucial function - Find w/in a pdf. Anyway, i think some older palms may not be able to view and do Find in a pdf, but it seems all recent devices will. The reason for the pdf req is that there is a...

ARCHIVED Things Are Going Down Hill....
tom replied to pixiegirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Susan, Please try dairy-free for a couple days. It made a world of difference for me. And that does not mean just lactose-free. Even the alleged "non-dairy" creamers contain casein (a milk derivative). The labels of these alleged "non-dairy" products actually have the words "a milk derivative", yet they somehow are allowed to put non-dairy in BIG letters... -
Please don't call it a cure. It's in no way related to a cure any more than shaving is a cure for whiskers. As far as how to get some - the 1st step is to become a rat. It's only been tried on rats. I was w/ Dr Gray just yesterday and he did say i may be a candidate for future testing, but don't forget this study is related only to gliadin - not secalinin...

Well, i finally saw Dr Gray yesterday and can barely even believe how disappointed i am. It's as if he has nearly NO IDEA of what the cumulative effect of the celiac set of symptoms does to a person. I was diagnosed as an infant (in the 60s) yet he recommended I eat a half-slice of bread every day for a month so he can do the blood test. I would actually...

ARCHIVED Celebrities With Celiac?

Surprised no one mentioned Billy Bob Thornton !! -
I've been reading much of the forum over the past few days and keep wondering why it seems EVERY topic is pinned. Never seen that in any other forum. All the others seem to have no problem w/ showing newest posts at the top, directly under the several pinned "essential info" topics.

Aha, thx for the explanation. Not sure WHAT i was thinking. I should look something up b4 posting sometimes. -
ARCHIVED Grain Alcohol Has Gluten?
tom replied to Shamilton's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmmm surprising. I was sure i'd read in numerous sources that the distillation breaks down the gluten/gliadin to the point that it's not the same type of molecule at all. I thought this was why any distilled vinegar from any source is safe. I'm sure a technical explanation wouldn't claim anything is "removed", as much as broken down into components. -
ARCHIVED Hydrolyzed Soy Protein?
tom replied to kerri124's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Was a bit curious about this and a quick search found a page that shows which Minor's products ARE gluten-free. (i get the feeling this info was added recently) Open Original Shared Link A few lines down it says: NOTE: Gluten Free items in the table below are on a light green background. -
ARCHIVED Computerized Gluten Free List
tom replied to celiacfreeman's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The best list i've found is in PDF format. (same one as others posted here - but a newer version came out in May. Open Original Shared Link ) Instead of a Palm, i use the T-Mobile Sidekick which is a web-browser, emailer, phone etc. Unfortunately it doesn't read PDFs. (Nearly all Palms do btw) I was a bit surprised to find that Adobe has a tool... -
Thank you both for your replies. I suppose i was hoping for a south bay doc, but if Dr. Gray is that good, I guess I'll be heading up the peninsula to stanford.
