  1. TammyK, The risk of stroke comes because sometimes, not all of the time, seizures involve vasospasm and can sometimes lead to a brain bleed. It's slightly different from stroke as stroke is usually caused by a blockage the way a blockage causes heart attacks. I work in obstetrics and in eclamptic (toxemia is the old term) patients their elevated blood...
  2. There was another question I forgot to include. I know many doctors won't accept enterolab results but so Dr. Fine isn't published... where else would the ttg-IgA and AGA-IgA come from? What else would cause the body to make it - blood or stool? Are there other conditions that make those go up? I'm sure there are. I just don't know what they are.
  3. I too am considering ingesting gluten again in order to get a "real world," diagnosis. I say that with sarcasm. But, the truth is is that I live in the real world. I had positive test results with enterolab and I've had an overwhelming response to a gluten-free diet. I'm not the person I was a year ago and I like this one much better. My kids recently...
  4. IgG is the most common of the immunoglobulins in the blood. I'm not sure exactly what all would make it elevated but my son had elevated IgG's for soy, milk, eggs, corn, and wheat and when we took him off those things his behavior, which was much like your son's, improved. I think it would still be accurate because unlike the Antigliadin...
  5. Hi, Was a total IgA included with the lab work? If he has an IgA deficiency then the other tests would be inaccurate. That should be done with the other celiac labs. Tipton
  6. I avoid eggs, dairy, gluten, and soy. I have trouble getting protein at breakfast too. I usually stick to a banana and a handful of almonds or mixed berries and trail mix of some kind. I don't eat any grains either mainly because I seem to keep my weight off that way. Cutting out grains really helped with food cravings and keeps my appetite normal.
  7. Hi, I found this info on the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center website. It might help. tipnpat This is their website: www.celiacdisease.net
  8. My 6 year old son also has really bad breath but I never knew it was a symptom. He eats a lot too and say's he's SUPER hungry. All this time I've thought that meant he didn't have Celiac. Maybe he still doesn't. He has the gene and I'm waiting on Enterolab results and a referral to the pediatric GI doc. I feel like I need to carefully word my symptom...
  9. missy'smom, I make sushi or jasmine rice and stir-fry it at home with tamari sauce, ginger, and sesame oil. If we go out to eat I ask them to make our stir fry without soy sauce. I don't think they understand me when I ask if their soy sauce is tamari. I want to be safe anyway. My kids still like it that way. And then there's sushi, of course. I think...
  10. This is such a wonderful place to come and read and realize you're not alone. I tried to experiment with just taking gluten out of my son's diet because he was so obviously headed down a disastrous path with behavior, etc. I could see several other diagnoses in addition to ADHD looming. Just the gluten was hard to do because he didn't understand why and...
  11. All this time, I've thought my son was simply not taking time to use the bathroom when he needed to. He always has accidents, "smudges," and near misses and we've talked and talked and talked about "listening to our body" and taking time out from play to use the bathroom. Maybe I'll keep that appointment with the pediatric GI after all. I feel so guilty...
  12. Hello, I recommend going to wikipedia and doing a search for HLA-DQ2 and reading that page. Also, go to the enterolab website and read the FAQ REsults interpretation page. Some of my info came from earlier posts in this topic too so I'm relying heavily on the more experienced ones. I keep reading and re-reading the info I can find and it seems each time...
  13. Actually, my understanding and anyone feel free to correct me, is that the 0201 allele is the 2.5 which carries a higher risk. With 2.2 alone you are not predisposed to gluten sensitivity. There has to be another "at risk" gene. With 2.5 alone you are predisposed. However, in your case you have 2 of the same DQ 2 genes which puts you at really high risk...
  14. Hi all. I wondered if anyone knew anything about an elevated c-reactive protein possibly being linked with gluten reaction or celiac disease. I was gluten-free for 6 months, had lost 70 lbs over the previous 2 yrs (on purpose) and was exercising 4-5 times a week. Yet on my annual labs my CRP was over 5 which put me in the high risk for cardivascular disease...
  15. It is so interesting to read that other people have the same responses I do to being "glutened." My husband thinks I'm looking too hard for reactions but it's just so clear. I had acne on my face, chest, and back before going gluten free. I thought it was hormonal changes as I start to leave childbearing behind. But, the acne cleared, the little patches...
  16. I was reading information of The University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center and noted that they recommend Prometheus or Mayo Clinic for serum testing but Kimball Labs for genetic testing. Kimball does a much more thorough testing, I think and maybe that is why the discrepency even though Prometheus offers genetic testing. It's an interesting website that...
  17. Holiday 16, On the list below do you know the difference in #4 and #2. What would the difference in DQ2 heterozygous and DQ2/other low risk gene be? Just curious. Thanks, tipnpat Overall Risks for Patients Carrying the DQ Genotype Category #/ DQ Genotype/ Increased Risk Over General...
  18. One more thing... processed FREE glutamic acid is different than just glutamic acid. It is the FREE glutamic acid that can be harmful to some people or in large amounts. tipnpat
  19. Hi, I'm new to all of this too and I'm finding lots of fascinating information. I would recommend reading the Wikipedia page on glycerin for some interesting insight. Glycerin can occur naturally from soapmaking but the manufactured glycerin is or seems to be much more synthetic in nature. The most obvious problem to me is that the action of glycerin...
  20. Rachel, Corn is one of the main allergens - all grains are immune challenging. Potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, and ?was it almonds are also immune challenging and I'm sure you know dairy is. I'm new and haven't read your previous posts so I don't know what you've tried, but have you tried the SCD diet? In one of the books I've read for ADHD/Autism for my...
  21. fedora, I did have the other usual Enterolab tests done and all, including casein, were abnormal except for the malabsorption. I have a significant reaction to gluten when I eat it now so I'm thinking I'm a Celiac, but definitely not full blown. I think I caught it early. My son, incidentally, tested positive for IgG antibodies to wheat, soy, milk,...
  22. Since this thread is titled Enterolab, I wanted to see what anyone had to say about my gene test. I just got the results today and have done a lot of reading trying to figure it out. I think I am clear but would like input just in case. HLA-DQB1 0201 HLA-DQB1 0402 serological equivalent HLA-DQ 2.4 (subtype 2,4) Thanks!
  23. Hi, I'm knew to the Celiac world as well. I have had depression bordering on bipolar at times for the ten years prior to figuring all of this out. I chalked it all up to post-partum depression when my son was born 10 yrs and I did definitely have that, but looking back, now I can see that it was there before as well. I was a withdrawn and moody child at...
