ARCHIVED Asymptomatic, Recently Diagnosed
MelliDuff replied to Hummingbird4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My point was you don't have to get all dizzied out by this - it is a do-able situation - to have a mixed house hold. I have 3 people my husband and my 4 year old and 1 year old that do eat gluten. We all live in the same house - plus we are talking to someone who is just starting out here - Some people react badly to one crumb some don't - she is one that... -
ARCHIVED Asymptomatic, Recently Diagnosed
MelliDuff replied to Hummingbird4's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'd like to add a little something, I know all this sounds overwhelming and it can be. Try not to get to overwhelmed by it all - it's just a new style of doing things. The worst part is not eating out(for the people that do it a lot), don't kill yourself if you mess up, everyone does, and even the most vigalent people still get "glutened". Luckily I... -
That sounds like what I get on my face the clear puss filled little pimple like things. I had a martini the other night and woke up with a small patch on my face. It dawned on me that the alcohol might have been derived from grains and I didn't bother to check it. I am careful about never eating any gluten but I try not to be overly careful because for...

Anyone have a rash that comes up after eating gluten that is not DH? I have had this rash on my face since I was 18 , I used to take tetracycline for it. About two days after I ate some gluten it came up in 3 different patches on my face. I am starting to wonder if the two are related. Anyone else ever heard of this?

ARCHIVED Tired And Sick ? Need Help
MelliDuff replied to MelliDuff's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am terrified of this Chronic Fatigue Syndrome thing....There is not cure for it. My doctor said he wanted me to come back again in one month and that he would "retest" things. He said expect not to feel "better" for 6 months. He did not mention Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I am pretty sure he did not want to scare the crap out of me. The weired thing for... -
ARCHIVED Tired And Sick ? Need Help
MelliDuff replied to MelliDuff's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks - I think i will "chill out" on the dieting for now. I have always eaten under 900 calories because of my thyroid... I have had to do that just to maintain a normal weight... it pretty much bites! -
ARCHIVED Does Anyone Have Asthma?
MelliDuff replied to Mango04's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
You can develop it as adult. It usually runs in families. My brother has had chronic asthma since birth, I can't tell you how many times he has almost died when were kids. He has a breathing machine he takes for the attacks - His son (5 years old) also has it. My brother seems to have grown out of the really horrible stage - He still has to use his breathing... -

I was just diagnosed with Celiac, but have been gluten free for two months now. I decided after putting on about 15 pounds from the gluten-free food (and exhaustion) that I should loose them before it is to late, and they become permanent. I was 120 lbs when I started the gluten-free diet - which is not under weight (but people made comments about how thin...

ARCHIVED When Did You Start To Notice?
MelliDuff replied to radgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had always blamed my symptoms on my thyroid, when I had been on my thyroid medicine for over a year I started to realize most things where not getting better in fact some were worse. My endocrinologist told me that it was not my thyroid or my thyroid medicine. These are the symptoms I experienced before everything decided to break that I blamed... -
ARCHIVED Thyroid
MelliDuff replied to Aleshia's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I will take a stab at answering your question. First of all understand that hashimotos is different than Hypo or hyper thyroid. (hashimotos can exhibit the same symptoms of both) Though some doctors use the term hypothyroid interchangeably with hashimotos it is not the same thing. I suppose they do this because in most cases hashimotos causes your... -

ARCHIVED Medication Absorption After Being gluten-free For 5 Months.
MelliDuff replied to silk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You know I wondered about this as well...I was thinking though most medicine is absorbed through your blood stream not your intestines... It goes from stomach to blood stream -I think- -
ARCHIVED Peeling Skin?
MelliDuff replied to Babs67's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Beth, I know what you are talking about I have the same blisters they itch...(like crazy) on my feet sometimes. I have the same cuticle problems (my entire life) and my skin is so dry if I don't use moisturizer everyday it gets super itchy and flaky. I have the foot/nail thing on both feet. I thought the white spots might be due to calcium deposits... -

MelliDuff replied to lonewolf's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi I was reading this thread and wondering if I could join... I have ten closer to 15 pounds I need to lose and I would like someone to be accountable to. I'd like to be able to fit into my clothes again too! I made a gluten free 2 layer cake last night and ate one BIG slice (I also made some frosting that is about 3 sticks of butter and a pound... -

ARCHIVED Water-come On!
MelliDuff replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Every time I drink my tap water (at least 3 - 4 consecutive days) I get sick. I get a cold or a bug and start to feel very bad....I have hash. thyroidis. I have read that the fluoride in tap waters will effect my thyroid. I suspect the fluoride is what makes me sick....I'm not supposed to have it in my toothpaste either. -
Eat 2 tbsp. of fresh parsley everyday - its about 200% of your vitamin K needs. It can not be dried it must be fresh. If you are bruising easily and have nose bleeds this is another good indication of vitamin K deficiency. Not one or two bruises I am talking 8 to 10 plus at a time ( i got them literally 20 plus at a time on my legs and arms feet even...

ARCHIVED Bob's Redmill Flour Or Tapioca Starch?
MelliDuff replied to camoflauge's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I thought I was allergic to corn because of good 'ol Bob, I got sick within 1 hour of eating his yellow corn grits. ... . i know for a fact it was Bob's Mill that did it. I have eaten other corn products even grits and not gotten sick. Later I read the entire package and it said that it was processed in a plant that also processes wheat. I attributed... -
ARCHIVED Quinoa...gross!
MelliDuff replied to MelliDuff's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Wow thanks for all the suggestions everyone, the creamy brown rice sounds awesome ....I am going to find a place I can get Kasha (roasted buckwheat) and amaranth while I am at it. These sound great, I am trying to get more protein and fiber besides beans/ meat. I thought that too but these were the flakes, that tasted like sour dirt. It was... -
