ARCHIVED Article In My Local Paper About Celiac
gZimmiZ replied to gf4life's topic in Publications & Publicity
I haven't been around for a while however, I too read the article in the Fresno Bee and took my Celiac DD to the Doc that was talked about in the aritcle. (Paul Hanchett is our Doc too Dingo Girl, small world). Anyway, Dr. Judy Davis has the Bravo ph Monitor and did the test on her. It was so cool! I think all the Fresno and Fresno area people should... -
What type of pan do you use for baking? Non stick, glass? Everytime I bake a cake, especially white, they come out nice and brown around the edges but just about raw in the middle. I have checked the temp in my oven and it is correct. My daughter is getting married and I may be the one to bake the wedding cake, three tiers! I have found a baker in...

Dear Patty, My college daughter says she came out of the "Brain Fog" after she went gluten free and didn't realize what it was or that she was in it. It's only when she "gets glutened" that it returns. We found gluten in Tylenol white tablets, one type of dental floss and vitamins, only then did she clear up completely at the beginning of this journey...

ARCHIVED Toaster Envelopes
gZimmiZ replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I purchased the toaster bags from Pampered Chef for my dorm living gluten-free child, worked out well. They wouldn't let her store a toaster in the cafe or have one in her dorm room so the bags were good. In the schools defense they did give her a key to the catering kitchen to use 24 hours a day and could leave the toaster in there. -
ARCHIVED Any "home-canners" Out There?
gZimmiZ replied to jenvan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Just had to jump into this topic! I would gladly trade some of the worlds best California peaches and plums just see that bear in that Plum tree! I do hope the tree doesn't break! We grow 80 acres of peaches and plums, about 12 varieties adn 100 acres of Sun Maid raisins. Plum jam is the best! Although I make apricot and pomegranate cooked jam and... -
As I read the replys I just laugh, I have been there, searching and tasting everything and more often than not being disappointed for my gluten-free family. With that said, I purchased a Zojirushi 2lb bread maker online from WalMart and make Manna from Anna. You set the setting on medium crust, one rise time and remove it immediatley with finished...

Dear Sheely, I am not Celiac but my husband and college aged daughter are, one son is not. After the first diagnoses I felt overwhelmed for them. I didn't know how to cook or how to shop. I made a decision that our home would be totally gluten-free, home is where you should feel safe. I watched them go up and down in their emotions toward celiac...

ARCHIVED Oats
gZimmiZ replied to Emme999's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My Celiac husband asked his Gut Doctor about eating Oats. He told him, something like this; Big question, well, I guess we could biopsy your intestine then you could eat Oats for a couple of months and then we could re-biopsy and know for sure. My husband decided not to eat Oats but wishes we could know for sure. -
Darla, Last week I tried Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Flour to make gravy for Chicken Fried Steak and Gravy. (I know it isn't the healthest meal, but sometimes...........) I coated the meat with the mix and fried it. For the gravy I used the pan juices, Bob's mix and milk to stir up gravy. It turned really good. Corn Starch mixed...

Thank you for your reply! I am starting to get nervous for my family. We going with family to visit extended family over the holidays. We will be staying in a hotel, eating out all meals, including the Holiday dinner, and we are not familar with Las Vegas. We will check out the Hard Rock Hotel. Thank you so much. Do think eating at a Breakfast Buffet...

ARCHIVED Shopping Guides
gZimmiZ replied to gZimmiZ's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks everyone! Shopping guides are just that, a guide, I will keep that in mind when using them. I will investigate the shopping guides you recommended. Am getting pretty good at remembering brands and items. But I still need some help. College is going pretty good for my daughter. The cafeteria cooks for her and usually knows what is safe and... -
I was looking at the new Pampered Chef catalog thinking about purchasing a pizza stone when I saw something new. They are making toaster bags that you can put your bread, french toast, pizza etc., into and toast in any toaster and not contaminate your toast or the toaster. They are reuseable up to 10 times each and cost $10.00 for 4 bags, kinda pricey....

Hey there! I am a Wife and Mom (two unbelievably great kids!) of two newly dx celiac. My husband, May 12th, 2004 and 19 year old daughter, July 12, 2004. We live in sunny California and farm peaches and plums and DH teaches Math. Now looking back I see the celiac in my husband, he has had the D.H. skin outbreaks forever. When he lost 20 pounds and...

Would someone be willing to recommend a shopping guide? I think having one would make my trips to the grocery a bit easier and I am wondering if I should pass one on the food service department at my student's college. Any recommendations on other pamphlets I should pass on to the college?

I received a call from TCBY's Chemist Craig Bennet yesterday. He said the TCBY website should be updated with new ingrediant information by the end of next week. It is good news!
-
I had the exact same reaction after receiving the same email from TCBY. I emailed back for more information and was given the Chemists phone number. His name is Craig Bennett, 1 800 343 5377 ext 8904. He called me back and we talked about his quest for getting complete information from his suppliers on their products. I do not have anything in writing...

Cross Contamination!!! I understand this can be a big nightmare! She told me she would plan on putting aside meat prior to seasoning and bake in a separate pan and would do the same for pasta. On that topic, our conversation stopped there. We are going to make an appointment and talk on campus. We are reading and making notes out of Danna Korns book,...

When we made plans to attend a Fresno (California) Grizzlies game I emailed the food service department and asked about gluten-free foods. I received an email back the same day and an another one the following day telling us which items we could purchase. You might try emailing, Just an idea. Have Fun!

I just wanted to share a wonderful experience I had a few days ago as an encouragement to those of you who are the 'support staff' to your celiac family. I phoned the private university where my child attends, with my students permission, and spoke to the cafeteria manager. I explained the new diagnoses and the gluten-free diet. The manager asked lots...

ARCHIVED Starting Out
gZimmiZ replied to HeatherMelissa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Dear Heather Melissa, Overwhelmed! That is exactly how I felt when my husband and almost 19 year old daughter were dx within 2 months of each other this past May '04. The learning curve is steep, but worth it. Danna Korn's book Wheat Free Worry Free is a good place to start. When you asked is it is safe to go gluten-free without being dx yourself... -

gZimmiZ replied to Donna F's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Donna, Thank you for your post. I am doing research for my daughter. Do know of any other products that she should stay away from or a site that lists products that are gluten free?
