  1. My G.I didnt test me for celiac because I have already been gluten-free for months. He said continue to do what i'm doing since gluten seems to be the obvious cause to my problem.

I completely forgot to ask him about the gene test when I was there, and now it is bugging me b/c if I had that done, it would at least rule out celiac (if negative) and if positive I could encourage my family to get tested..I have no doubt some of them have it with all the symptoms they have...

is gene testing an issue with doctors? or is it just a simple blood test????

I have a follow up with my primary soon, I'm going to ask him, although his knowledge on celiacs isnt so great  (he told me one slice of bread will wipe out my villi and I can get tested) <_<

  2. since this is about shampoo and related stuff....if someone could answer this it would be awesome....

I'm confused about products like shampoo and what ingefients I am looking for. I know the obvious oat extracts, wheat, barley rye...ect... but is there a commonchemical that I should look for in these products that contains hidden gluten? I heard it is in certain alcohols?

sorry this is really frustrating me...

  3. well, since everyone else is putting it out there. I myself saw the gyn b/c my pms symptoms have been worse gluten-free (some things are better, some are worse--wierd!) I think it is my body re-adjusting....anyways.....

I've had discharge since I was a little girl. more recently I've been having discharge that is similar to what comes out of my nose when I have a sinus infection or bad cold!!! now that freaked me out. It always seems to happen when I have C and strain to go. I told this the gyno....she didnt say anything. I had an internal ultrasound last week and everything appeared normal except for a cyst on my left ovary ( which she said was breaking apart and was nothing to worry about) I had some hormone tests done, but I have yet to have any response from the gyno...

  4. thanks for the replies! On second thought...I tried a hanffull of the shredded cheese I bought last night (regular cheese made from dairy)......and yuck..horrible gas and bloating :( Anyone use that rice cheeese for pizza? I know most dont like it, but I've tried the cheese by itelf before and actually like it....just not so sure how well it would melt...

I'm pretty sure it is caesin I am intolerant to and not lactose...it may even be mold...all I know is even cool whip has given me gas...theres no milk in there but they use caesin.

  5. I picked up this kind:

    Open Original Shared Link

And will follow the directions: take 2 three times a day.

Another forum member claimed this STOPPED her bloating. With bloating ruining a majority of my days, I'm really hoping for something to work. Since the dose is so high, my bottle should run out in about 2 weeks (100/6 is 16 days) and will have something to say by then.

BTW I was also taking revitalx and while it's okay, I don't know if I will buy it again. Though it makes me wonder if I was wasting it all this time because I was taking it in soy milk. I don't think I have problems with soy, but if my stomach is still mildy uncomfortable right now who knows. This game is such a pain, isn't it? We'll see in the next couple of days because my soy milk ran out and I picked up some almond milk instead. This time from Pacific instead of Almond Breeze because that brand brings back awful memories.

I'm just curious, because I have been having bloating off and on- is your bloating gassy bloating, or just bloating?? I know not a very specific question, I dont know how to explain it. but I ask b/c my bloating I've been experiencing seems to get worse as the day goes on, but it isnt like when I was on gluten where I would be bloated and extremly gassy. This bloating is differnat, almost like water retention, though I do have some gas and pain in my mid stomach, it cant even compare to the hell I went through for 7 years. It seems worse when I have saltier foods, but I watch my sodium, even though I shouldnt have to, I'm 22 and a runner, but I've noticed the correlation.......so annoying. I'm willing to give neem a try.

  6. I swear everytime I make money, the first thing I spend it on is a new gluten-free product I havent tried! I havent ate pizza in over a year and have never tried gluten-free pizza yet so I bought the frozen glutino personal size crusts at the store today and some toppings, all of which were gluten-free- yay! but my second time trying cheese again in 5 months -eeek!

I'm not a picky eater at all, but just wondering if anyone likes these crusts and what is the best way to bake them (ex, should I just throw them in the oven frozen? or microwave them a bit to thaw first?)

  7. When I first started the gluten-free diet I hated talking about it and was nervous to bring the topic up. I even sometimes would eat gluten instead of being up front about it and saying I cannot have it, i felt as though I was a burden. I was always afraid of what people thought because I usually got criticized :(

Now I really don't care anymore and have been much more up-front about it. I dont go aroud waving my hands saying "look ar me, I have celiac's!!!" but I've been trying to bring awareness to it and now I am determined to talk to as many people as possible, especially those in contact with media and advirtising, small businesses, local resturants, doctors offices, ect. I dont want people to think I am doing this just because I have celiacs, I'M NOT. I've just been seeing how many people this really effects and it frustrated me that celiacs dont get the recognition they deserve!!!!! especially when resturants can serve special diet items like atkins/south beach/vegitarian, but they cant serve one or two thing gluten-free??? I think that this should be a mandatory thing for all resturants, even if it means re-desiging and building a gluten-free preparation area in every resturant and training employees on howto prepare food.....going to far?? I THINK NOT!

I know how hard this is to go through and I really want people's lives to be easier. It really helps the coping aspect if you get into raising awareness about this disease. I find the more I talk about it to people I dont know, the better I feel, and the more I hear that someone else knows someone with it! You don't have to go around telling people you have it, but just let people know it exsists, and how serious it is. It really doesnt take much. For ex. One little simple thing I am doing is contacting my school about putting up informational flyers. In the bathroom stalls at my school they put up informational flyers about all sorts of things, mostly health realted, so I contacted them and am getting a celiac informational flyer to be put up in all the stalls ( and how ironic, someone may just walk in with horrible D or C and sit there reading the symptoms list...... )

  8. I'm not sure how official it is, but I saw newscasts and articles about october being celiac awareness month. I think it is through the CSA. If any of you have facebook, I created an event. I know its not a huge thing, but I'm trying to do anything possible to get this more recognized. So join it and invite people! If you do an events search on facebook for "celiac disease awareness month" it should pop up onthe list....I'm not sure if this link will work here:

  9. it's half and half for me. Some people completely get it, others arecompletely ignorant. My roomate fo example thinks I'm on a diet and look at ingredients for caloric/healthy reasons, even after i explained to her what happens when I eat gluten. She understands not to use my silverware and dishes, but then she'll ask me qestions like "so is it hard not to cheat?" I just stood there with a blank gaze on my face...."um, no, I dont wan't to even touch the stuff, it makes me sick." and she says "oh, ok, yeah right...."

on the other hand I am finding more and more people are becoming aware of it because of people they know being diagnosed. I even met someone in person for the first time ever the other day. I literally was so happy I gave her a huge hug, and i didnt even know here LOL!:lol:

  10. Does anyone feel like they want to keep eating after they have been glutened? Not neccesarrily right after it happens, but for like a day or two afterwards....

I wonder if it is because my body is robbed of nutrients when it is glutened....ugh....so frustrating, especially since I'm feeling bloated and crappy to begin with and heartburn stays with me for a few days....you would think the last thing I would want to do is keep eating....

  11. LOL! yeah I'm starting to re-think ever going out where there are sloppy drunks again! I still feel like crap today and even have a slight migrane and tingly legs and feet/toes- BLAHHHH!!! I thnk I'm going on a liquid diet for a couple days, everything is making me naucious! and I was feeling so good for a while

  12. Sorry I've been posting so much in here, but I can't believe I was glutened by a sloppy drunk/high dude! I was at a festival (with loud music) and he comes up to me and stands really close, talking loudly in my ear b/c he cant hear very well. As he was talking he was holding a large glass of beer and eating cheese crackers from a bag....his glass was wobbly, I was just waiting for it to spill. He continued to talk my ear off and it seemed the more he talked the more he started to spit and slober...I then realized the spit was getting on my face and it even landed in my eye once! I started backing away, but he continued to talk and follow me like a magnet. I was holding grapes in my hand that I had just picked and he started taking them off the vine and eating them as he talked...w/o even asking (funny, b/c he's drunk, but not cool since he was touching crackers and just being gross) He wasnt creepy or anything, and I didnt want to be mean, but I just said "here, take the grapes" and walked away. later on he came up to me again and ended up spilling beer right in my path as it splashed on me.....so I'm thinking "great"......I wasnt anywhere near water or a place to wash my hands......a half hour later I started getting gurgling in my stomach, now I'm all bloated and have gas that smells like puke!!!!

I'm thinking maybe it was the grapes, but then I realized I was eating them while the dude was talking to me, some of his spit probably got onto the grapes!

this is my first non-intentional glutening in 5 months! And a gross one!

    anyone have similar experiences???

  13. Hi

i am doin my GCSE coursework on coeliacs

is it possible you could email me a copy of your article or send me it in the post please?

    if you could PM Me

    thank you

HI, sure, no problem, I just need to write it first. Do you need it soon?

I have to meet up with some people in charge of the news paper first since I am new and havent written for it yet. I'm hoping it will be done by the end of next week assuming I can interview some faculty and students by then- which seems pretty good so far.

  14. if thats the case, i better walk around in a bubble.

I would think that protien (gluten) is broken down into a differant form before it is absorbed by the animal. It would be impossible for a whole protien to make its way into the chickens egg. The egg has protien of it's own. besides, wouldn't they have to label that eggs contain wheat?

pretty rediculous... I dont believe a lot of things people say.

  15. When I am at school I sometimes stop in the convienience store on campus and pick up something to eat if I feel super hungry. There are only a few gluten-free products there, one of which is dried apples by "bare fruit" which is labled "gluten-free" right on the bag.

I never have a prob with regular apples or really any whole fruit, but it seems dried stuff just turns me into a gas machine...nothing compared to gluten of course...

anyone else like this, or know why???

  16. I saw the g.i doc today. I told him how I went gluten free by myself and explained all my prior symptoms, ect, ect. I was so worried he would want me to go back on gluten to get tested, but luckily he knew what he was talking about and said it's not worth it and the tests would more than likely come back negative anyways! He also told me the fiber meds my other doc recommended (which were giving me horrible stomach pain, bloating ect..) have gluten or may have it, so he is going to look up some meds that are gluten free and call me back! He thought it was great that i am able to follow the diet on my own b/c it is very healthy. He also made me laugh because the first thing he said when he walked through the door was "so you diagnosed yourself with cialac huh?" haha

I really didnt even need to go to the g.i. because I know gluten was the cause to my problems, but now my mom actually believes me that I did go and told her what he said! it's so sad that it takes a doctor to get someone to believe you!!! ugh! My mom even said "wow, you shouldve gone into medicine" Im just thinking....... "no, I just know my body" LOL

but either way I am relieved! now I just have an internal ultrasound for my monthly problems that are causing me hell! I'll be so glad when I get an answer for that! I think it may be the cause to my "c" also.

  17. NOt sure where to post this.

I am writing an article for my school new paper on celiac and similar health issues in college students that require them to follow strict diets. I do not know anyone at my school with celiac and am looking just to ask a few questions from a couple people who are actually college studets dealing with this. If you would be interested let me know and we can talk through e-mail. When the article is published I will need to share just some information like your name and university for citation purposes.

If you have lived on campus with a meal plan while diagnosed, that would be awesome - I can write about how the school accomadated/or didnt accomodate you -LOL And if you live off campus, that would be fine also. I will be interviewing the dining services at my own school about students with special dietary needs. I really hope this helps to spread awareness. If I lived on campus with a meal plan at my school I would be screwed!!!. Although there are ways to make meals gluten-free, it would be impossible to avoid cross contamination...another thing people really dont understand. i worked for catering at my school and saw first hand how cutting boards and surface areas are used to cut bread, fruit , meat....everything. They are wiped down, but its not enough. i would love to purchase the fresh cut fruit at my school, but because of this I dont... I'm even leary of the salads.

    thanks!

  18. Not sure where to post this....

So i e-mailed a suggestion to my college newspaper asking them to write something about about students who may have special dietary needs such as celiac, diabetes ect... I didnt expect an e-mail back asking me to write the article! I have no problem with it, but I really don't know anyone at my school who has celiac. I am gluten intolerant, but not diagnosed, and i rather not make my health problems that public and just talk about me lol

But anywatys, I'm excited because this gives me the opportunity to spread the word about celiacs, the proper way, so people dont think it is just some food trend ( which seems to be the case lately  ) Does anyone think it would be o.k to just cite other sources instead of actually students at the school?? or should i just write an article explaining celiacs disease and how hard it can be for a college student to have it? God, there has to be someone at my school who is adiagnosed celiac...the article would be much more interesting if i could incorporate actual people....
