  1. I understood that if I am casein intolerant, I have to give up all dairy products including milk, cheese, yogurt etc? I'm reading in places where people state they are casein intolerant but not lactose intolerant. How can that be? I understand to believe that if you are casein intolerant, there is no dairy whatsoever in the diet. BAmBAm
  2. I like to make a spaghetti bake with noodles, sauce, hamburger and cheese on top. I never ate it as a snack, I've always used it in recipes. I love pizza, but I think I got that figured out with that Chreese powdered stuff, if you use enough other stuff, I don't taste the odd flavor of it. It is like a spreadable cheese. I guess I could try that on my...

    ARCHIVED Amazing

When I joined this board in June of 04, I was #2166 - and if you look today, there is over 7,800 members on this board. I bet by the end of the year we will be 10,000 strong! I know that is a small number when you look at the whole world, but still, having 10,000 people to visit with about our disease/problems is just amazing! BamBam
  4. Is all casein the same? I understand giving up the yogurt being a dairy product. I was wondering if the rice cheeses are the same thing. I know they have a casein in them but is it the same as the casein in milk products? I really miss my rice cheese. BamBam
  5. I always thought I was just lactose intolerant, so I would take pills whenever I ate dairy, sometimes they helped and sometimes they didn't. Ice cream and milk were always killers for me regardless. I could eat the dariy queen ice milk a little better. I continued drinking lactose free milk, eating rice cheeses and other items like yogurt. The one thing...
  6. You may want to consider giving up dairy for awhile, I always thought I was just lactose intolerant, so I drank lactose free milk, ate yogurt constantly. I had horrible constipation/irregularity going maybe once or twice in a week. A friend on the board, Jenvan, suggested I give up all dairy products, the ingredient "casein" which is a milk protein can...
  7. I will respond to my own question, I finally found and made it in the Delphi list again. Log Cabin syrup is gluten free, I bought if for like a buck a bottle last night. So I am very glad for the special and that it is gluten free. I was using Aunt Jemima and that is like 4 bucks a bottle and I can't always afford that price fr a little bottle of syrup...
  8. It's Lent and I think I can eat Starkist and Bumble Bee tuna's? Am I right or wrong? I believe the Albertson Brand is safe also, does anyone know for sure? Also - Log Cabin Syrup - it is on sale for a ridiculous low price, but there is no phone number of the bottle. Has anyone contacted this company and know for sure if it is gluten free? Thanks...
  9. I really think she is feeling better over all, depression and all. If her system is in good spirits, she is in good spirits. The one thing I noticed since going totally dairy free, she doesn't have the feeling of having to go all the time. Which is nice. We need to work on the nutrition and fiber issue so she can continue getting more strength and happiness...
  10. JenVan Just wanted you to know that BamBam is doing much better on the no gluten and no dairy diet. We are kinda like starting from scratch again, as she ate a lot of rice cheeses, yogurts, cool whip types of things. In the past you have recommended eating beans as fiber. What kinds of beans do you eat and if you could share a few recipes. She is finding...
  11. Some of my family members, I have just found out, have some bowel incontinence issues. Is there anybody out there that has some accidents, and if so, what products do you use?
  12. one last thing - I got to get back to work. Regarding the bathroom thing - Bernadette doesn't get up until she absolutely has to whether she is still too tired or is still part of the depression issue, not sure. I am a believer that if she would get up earlier, and move around some, drink some coffee, even exsercise a little bit she probably would get...
  13. sHE IS DRINKING rICE mILK - THE HEALTH FOOD STORE HAS been really good to us lately. He ordered a whole case of the Lundenberg brand. We are still finishing the Pacific Brand that we ordered from another town. She says it wasn't bad, but only has it on cereal, she doesn't drink it like she would milk, it is a bit expensive.
  14. JENVAN I WOULD LOVE SOME HELP MAKING HER A CAKE!!!!! BUT IT IS PROBABLY TOO LATE TO ORDER ANYTHING FROM A BUSINESS. We did order some bread from Kinnickkinnick - I think we got white sandwich bread, Italian white sandwich bread and the dark bread, some donuts and cookies as a treat. They only charge a flat $10.00 shipping so it is great to order...
  15. Hello, Sorry, I haven't been in touch the last couple weeks, just been a crazy busy time. But, I think we are doing better. She stopped eating all forms of dairy and she is going to the bathroom (BM) more regular, several times a week now, instead of once every 7-10 days. She is somewhat down because she really enjoyed eating the rice cheeses and...
  16. She is not eating well yet. We ate at the steakhouse last night, salad, steak and baked potato with kraft dressing, our own margarine and no seasonings. I think she was eating too much fiber and not enough other stuff for a few days. That is my thought anyway, she is nauseated some also. The carrots and lettuce were causing her lots of gas and painful bloating...
  17. Okay, we gave up casein, and now Bernadette has lots of diarrhea. I think it is because she was eating so much lettuce and carrots and things cause she was so constipated/backed up. She was so sick yesterday, but all she ate was carrots and lettuce type things. I think she took an Immodium last night so she can work today. So now where should we go...
  18. JenVan Not feeling up to par yet. Her diet this past week included: meat apples carrots salad Kinnickkinnick bagels mayo gluten free cereal rice milk 4-5 glasses of water per day As far as we can tell we are gluten free and dairy free/casein free for the past week. I really don't think she has had any gluten to speak of for a long time...
  19. JenVan Bernadette drank milk last Friday or Saturday and hasn't pooped since. She hasn't had any dairy since then either. Once she gets this through her system, do you think things may be better? Mr. BamBam
  20. sOY ONLY SEEMS TO BOTHER HER IN LARGE AMOUNTS. wE USED TO BUY SOYMILK AND SOY LATTES AND IT WAS JUST TO HARD TO DIGEST FOR HER. tHE SOY THAT IS IN DRESSINGS AND MARGARINES, WE DON'T THINK ANWYAY BOTHER HER, BUT WE WILL SEE.
  21. We are not going to woryy about soy right now - just gluten and dairy. What is in Miracle Whip that she can't have? She has eaten Miracle Whip before, I didn't think there was any dairy in miracle whip? This diet is getting more and more complicated. I hope it is worth it in the end. I eat whatever Bernadette eats.
  22. Thank you again for all the responses. We are going to give up dairy for awhile, but can you help us out with some dairy free/gluten free items. Bernadette doesn't eat much soy either. Soy in margarine doesn't seem to bother her but large amounts of soy bother her. We are in a small town have access to an Albertson's grocery store. Some day we are going...
  23. What about margarine? We use either Smart Balance with no whey or gluten - we also use a Saffola Brand that we can get at our grocery store. I suppose I will have to call them? Mr BamBam
  24. We are going to stop all dairy for awhile and see if this helps. What do you suggest we use for a dairy alternative in cooking - but I think she has to have it soy free also. We like to make clam chowder and she adds milk to her meatballs and meat loaf. If you could give me a brand and/or company I will take it to my health food store and see what we can...
  25. I am hoping this is my last topic, for awhile anyway - but those of you that are casien intolerant - what problems do you have should you eat it by mistake. Our family nurse practitioner has suggested that Bernadette get a skin test, what do you think about that?
