  1. I will ask my doctor about long term use. Thanks for the info on that. I don't need to create yet another problem! Kay
  2. I still feel as I am searching for an identity at times.I had negative bloodwork and biopsy with "gastric mucosal abnormalities by erythema".Doctor says he feels like it is Celiac in an early stage.I've had WONDERFUL support here for the last few weeks confirming that dx. I do call myself a Celiac because I feel so much better after going gluten free....I...
  3. I want to shed about 25 lbs. but it seems much harder for me after going gluten free....which makes no sense to me at all.I'm eating much more healthier now.I lived on breads, pastas, junk etc....prio to my dx.I was so sure that being gluten free was going to help me lose weight.I walk on my treadmill 30 mins a day.I have only lost 5-6 lbs so far...in a month...
  4. I have always had a constipation issue....so about 2 years ago my gastro doc put me on MiraLax.It works great for me....like clockwork with no cramping or discomfort.I can't find anything on the label regarding gluten. In fact it is only one ingredient....Polyethylene Glycol 3350 Does anyone know of a reason a celiac patient should not be taking this.I...
  5. I tested negative on a blood test and the biopsy.Never the less,my doctor insisted I had all the symptoms and must start the diet that day.I was confused until he explained that he thinks he caught this intolorance/celiac disease very early.I am in week 3 of this lifestyle and I am definately feeling better....although my symptoms were many ...there were...
  6. I was depressed as well.I blamed it on too much "stuff" going on in my life.My parents moved in with us about a year and a half ago.My Dad has congestive heart failure and my Mom has Lewy Body Demetia....It's like Alzhiemers...but much "darker".She stays confused and is a daily challange.Dad's a trooper at 85 and is no problem. So,I blamed it all on my life...
  7. Another weight gain story here.I have only had symptoms for the last 4 or 5 months....but I cannot remember ever eating so much.I craved sweets so bad.I wanted 3 pieces of bread ...not just one.I ate all the time.I am probably 30 pounds overwieight now...but working on the problem everyday.I eat so different now and I exercise everyday I can.I do find the...
  8. I had pain in the right side of my stomach just under my rib cage for months before I was dx with gluten intolarance.I was tested for everything in the book.I had abdominal scans ..where they found gallbladder stones....not causing problems...just lying there they said.I had a HIDA scan to see if any of the stones were stuck in the bile ducts.I had everything...
  9. My niece sent me that book as soon as she heard of my dx.I love it.You're right....everyone needs a copy.....especially family/relatives.I get the old...."You'll be fine in a few weeks and then you can have you're favs again".No,not how it works people! Sometimes....I feel like they think I'm being selfish or rude when I pass up the chocolate cake they worked...
  10. I'm curious about the reaction time to being "glutened" as well.My question is .....if I had only bloating/stomach distention/gas symptoms...not major complaints or gut wrenching pain......will I still feel basically the same things now.....when the gluten slips in? I have read so many serious symptoms...but I never really had terrible pain or other issues...
  11. Gumbo is really going to be a challange! My sisters were talking today about that very subject.I'll be looking for ideas. It's definately hard to be wheat/gluten free in this part of the country. Kay
  12. I have been having back pain for as long as I've had the constant bloating and many other symptoms.I never made the connection! It's making more and more sense now.I am learning by the minute here.I don't feel quite as "crazy" as I use to as I learn more about this gluten/wheat issue. Kay
  13. I wish I knew.....I live about 2 hours from Lafayette. We ride motorcycles there alot and I would like to know where to pick up products or where to eat.The bike trips we take with all our friends ALWAYS involve food and it's going to be a challange....especially here in Cajun Country. It's all about food...most of it now taboo! Kay
  14. I haven't eliminated dairy and soy...but I should consider that as well.I suppose I put it wrong about being retested to confirm celiac disease in August. The doc says improvement with the diet will be his confirmation and of course if your gluten/wheat free...your tests should come back negative.I hope he's truly not clueless....I think I am at this point...
  15. I too have been tested ...blood/endoscope...both negative. But my doctor feels much different and ORDERS me to continue the diet as I may be in a very early stage of celiac disease because I have so many symptoms. He even advised me to have siblings tested for good measure.A few days ago,I was confused and felt so uninformed after the nurse called with the...
  16. I was just about to post a question regarding burping.I have been burping alot for the last 5 months...without really knowing why.I will burp all day long.I feel like there is always some air that I could burp at all times.I don't get the acid backup or reflux with the burping...just the air.I am following the diet to the letter with only fresh fruits veg...
  17. I too hope you're feeling better soon.A toothache can cause such terrible pain.Wishing you better days very soon and a cancellation in your dentist's office. Kay
  18. You're both right...I need to stick to the diet.He did find the "gastric mucosal abnormalty characterized by erythema".So...that can't be good...something celiac disease or not is going on.I think I'll chart my progress and the worse that could happen is that I'll feel better! I could be early into this celiac disease thing. My gasto symptoms bloating etc...
  19. My blood tests came back negative today and was told that my biopsy was negative also. For 5 days now....I was under the impression that I tested positive for celiac disease through biopsy. He put me on the diet ,told me to inform my siblings and printed out several pages for me to read regarding celiac disease. He told me he was sure I had a wheat intolarance...
  20. Well it all makes since now.I had no clue that toast, chips etc. bothered the condition.I lived off of that stuff.I should see a huge difference now being gluten free.I did know that it was an autoimmune disorder and it was not contagious.I've been having it off and on for 3 years now.....along with soooo many other symptoms of celiac disease. Thanks for the...
  21. Hey! I'm from Louisiana...Walker to be exact...not but about 10 minutes from Baton Rouge.I had my test done at Ochsner in Baton Rouge.I was dx last week with Celiac.I'm giving this diet my best shot. I have been feeling so bad for months now.I spent an arm and a leg on Medical costs and I lost so much time with family and friends lately....because I felt...
  22. I've known that I was Celiac for 5 days now and was soooo proud to have lost some of the bloat ...but it's back this afternoon. It seems to come and go at times.Maybe it's way too soon to say bye-bye for good.?? I am following the diet 100% though.....tired of looking/feeling pregnant. Kay
  23. My doctor just called today to set up endoscopy #2 in 2 months.I was just told 5 days ago that I had celiac disease(found through endocsopy #1...blood test not back yet).Wow that seems fast....I too ask ...can they see a difference so soon?? Kay
  24. I think it must be connected.I can't tell yet if the diet is helping that problem because I am currently on Prednisone for it ...which helps it anyway. After the med is ffnished I'll be anxious to see how much diet alone works.I had no idea how much I was/am affected by Celiac! As I mentioned I'm brand new to this thing...but trying to absorb everything I...
  25. I'm really new here....so I'm learning something new everyday.I was dx only last week ...April 10 '08.My reaction to my Doctor at the time was shock, partly because I knew zero about celiac disease and partly because I had eaten this way all my life....why does it bother me now?? In spite of it all,I don't think I've had an angry moment yet....I'm sure it...
