  1. We ate at Chili's on Saturday and had a great experience. In Canada, the gluten free items are not the same as the list downloaded from the internet. We asked for their gluten free menu and they brought one out that they keep pinned up in the kitchen. The wait staff seemed very knowledgeable.
  2. Hi Karen, Wow she sounds just like my daughter. The belly aches were her main sympton along with being very moody. I can't pinpoint exactly when her irritability got better, but over the last few months it seems like every day is a little better. Although when she got glutened this summer, her behavior was what tipped us off, completely irrational reactions...
  3. Make sure you check the ingredients of any deli meat, I have run across a few that have wheat.
  4. Hi Becki, hang in there, the first weeks are the worst. When my daughter was diagnosed I ended up in tears in the middle of walmart. I bought a box of rice flour and a box of potato flour (even though I had no idea what to do with them) because that was all that I new was safe. It gets better. Try the health food stores for some basic staples like cereal...
  5. I have seen some store brand chocolate ice creams in Canada that contain wheat.
  6. Hi and welcome Calgary!! This is my home town too and there are alot of great options here. There is a fully gluten free restaraunt on 17 Avenue SE called A Tasty Menu. I also do quite a bit of shopping at Superstore, Community Natural Foods, Lakeview Bakery, and the Purified Water Stores as they all carry quite a bit of pre packaged gluten free foods...
  7. I would say definitely have her scoped. My 7 year old had her biopsy and it was a piece of cake. She was put under for less than a half an hour and we were at the hospital for less than 4 hours. I think by her having a definite confirmed diagnosis it will help her as she gets older in being more compliant with the diet (at least I hope so anyways).

She now helps me with the cooking and is always checking the ingredient lists on everything she eats.   9. My daughter is seven and was diagnosed last month. She has actually been adjusting alot better than I thought she would. She checks the ingredients of items she might like and if she sees something she can't have she puts it back and we try to figure out how to make it gluten free. I take her shopping with me to the health food store and she sees some...
  10. Seeing as you are a rep, do you know if all Epicure products are gluten free? I have quite a few of their spices and dips and haven't used them since my dd was diagnosed. Thanks for your help.
  11. Our dietician recommended that we specifically look for the words gluten free on any products that are typically made with wheat, rye, or barley. So if we are buying cookies, cereals, crackers etc. I only buy them if they are marked as gluten free, this makes it a lot simpler in trying to figure out if an item is okay.
  12. Thanks so much for all of your help. I'm sure I will be posting lots in here for all kinds of crazy questions that are popping up. Also thanks for the product suggestions, I walked out of WalMart the other day with only rice flour and potato flour (and I have no idea how to use either).
  13. My dd was diagnosed by biopsy on Thursday, the doctor said no more ketchup and is setting us up with a dietician. What ingredient in ketchup has gluten and are there any gluten free brands??? Thanks for the help and keeping my panic at bay.
