ARCHIVED Dealing With Other People's Reactions?
rattaway replied to sunflower's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh Bless your heart. . I am so sorry that you had that kind of reaction. I wish we could print up Celiac tracts to pass out or something to make people aware of what we go through and how hard things like weddings can be. If people, yes that includes family members would learn to treat celiac like the disease that it is instead of a "diet", then we, as... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Not Super Careful About Cross Contamination
rattaway replied to MichelleC's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is definitely a good idea to use seperate cooking utensils when you live in a house that has some celiacs and some non celiacs. Especially for your kids' sakes it is better to make sure that you are taking every precaution to keep them from having problems with their health by cross contamination. -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Other People's Reactions?
rattaway replied to sunflower's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sure, just ckeck under keyword cupcakes and you will see that a new celiac was telling me that I shouldn't take gluten-free cupcakes to my daughters class because some gluten eating kids might not like them and make her feel embarrassed. I told her that I feel the more that celiacs keep celiac a closet disease the more doctors will continue do misdiagnose... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Other People's Reactions?
rattaway replied to sunflower's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup. She has a big ol plank in hers huh? I am also shocked at how some celiacs treat other celiacs at times. It seems that some are ashamed of it when others want to share it so that other people get more educated about this disease. " Better a dry (gluten-free) crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife" Proverbs 17:1 ... -
ARCHIVED Problems With Gum, In Particular, Wrigley's?
rattaway replied to celiac3270's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
celiac3270, you are great. Thanks to you for posting and to others for replying. I just can't seem to figure out anything with this computer. How do you take someones message and post it to your own? Saves time I'll bet. I am going to go and get my first pack of Wrigley's today and see what happens. Cross your fingers. I am excited. Thank you, Thank... -
ARCHIVED Dealing With Other People's Reactions?
rattaway replied to sunflower's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had similar experiences with my family. My youngest daughter is tiny, she has always had slightly dark circles under her eyes ( I do too though). My mom and brother were convinced that the reason my daughters weren't fat is because we didn't give them gluten. They were also convinced that the reason that my daughters are allergic to gluten is because... -

ARCHIVED Coping With Gluten Intolerance
rattaway replied to BamBam's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Welcome to the board all newbies. I am still a newbie too I think. I also want to add that you should also be wary of Modified food starches. These can sometimes be modified from wheat. Best Wishes, Rian -
ARCHIVED Trace Amounts Of Gluten Acceptable
rattaway replied to MichelleC's topic in Publications & Publicity
Hey fellow celiacs. Just remember, a little bit goes a long way when it comes to accepting even the tiniest amounts of gluten. Secondly, do we have to change our names to "somewhat celiac" if they are still allowing gluten? If you give them an inch, the product companies may take a yard! ... -
ARCHIVED Definitely Casein Intolerant....
rattaway replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had a totallyGf dinner last night and still had an upset stomach. I noticed though, that there were several dairy products. I think I will try a lactose free diet for a while and see what happens. -
Hello fellow Celiacs! I am a 24 yr. old stay at home mother of two daughters ages 6 and 4. Both of them including myself and my husband are all self dxd Celiacs. I was a crazy wife when we first married. I was always paranoid that his mom was using her and my husbands celiac stuff to make my life harder. I was showing all of the symptoms, chronic diarrhea...

ARCHIVED Could My 2yo Have Celiac?
rattaway replied to TaylorsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Whoa. Sounds like all three of us posting today have been there with our girls. My youngest had projectile vomiting and we went through the formula search until we had her on soy. She did a little better until she too grew out of it. It does sound like Taylor has Celiac. Also, my daughters have nightmares every time they get gluten. I have seen them... -
ARCHIVED I Am So Proud Of Myself
rattaway replied to AmyandSabastian's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I use The Gluten-Free Pantry Favorite Sandwich Bread Mix. It is awesome for fresh baked bread. My husband loves it too and so do our kids( all of us are gluten-free). I buy ours at the local Health Food Store for about $5.29. Hope you don't every give up. I know it is hard at first but You Will Get It. Also, try the Bette Hagman GFmix of flours, it... -
Welcome Susette I am glad that not all doctors have stereotyped celiac disease to one race. It is out there in all races. I guess I am what you'd call caucasian but I am really a heinz 57 mut. I am German, Englsih, Black Dutch, Black Irish, Apache, Creek, And Comanche Indian. I'd like to see a spot for that on some census form. But really, I am one...

I had no problems concieving, carrying, and delivering my two daughters ages six and four. Last July we found out that I was preg. with our third baby. At twelve wks. I had to have a D&C due to a miscarriage that my body hadn't done on it's own yet. We waited three months and tried again. I miscarried at eight wks.. We decided not to wait and went...

ARCHIVED First Gf Birthday Coming Up
rattaway replied to ryebaby0's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Surprisingly, the kids in my daughters class all loved the cupcakes we made and none were ever left on the plate. There is always a chance that even when gluten containing cupcakes are made that someone will not like them either. My daughters know that their cupcakes are safe and delicious and could care less what other kids think. I think that if we emphasise... -

Good post. I do hope that the parents of the daughter with diabetes will take into consideration all that has been posted and keep us all updated. I do hope that you start to feel better soon. Do you have any children? I am hoping to get to know some moms who have gluten-free kids but I enjoy talking to any other Celiacs as well. Hang in there. ... -

ARCHIVED Okay, Now I Am Scared....
rattaway replied to Canadian Karen's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I haven't heard of " permanent diarrhea" although I don't doubt that it can happen. I will be praying that you get a good diagnosis and treatment plan. ARCHIVED New Here - Hi All!
rattaway replied to mackersandlackers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I just posted a reply dealing with our sensitivity to hydrogenated oils but it just disappeared on me. I am having a tough time as a Newbie on this site. I haven't quite got the hang of it yet. I try very hard to avoid hydrogenated oils too because they seem hard for my husband, two girls as well as myself to digest. I wonder if many other celiacs have... -
ARCHIVED New Here - Hi All!
rattaway replied to mackersandlackers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We are sensitive to Hydrogenated oils. I have a hard time with oily foods but I am struggling to let dairy go. I bet I'd lose five to ten pounds in a week if I got off of it though. It does take a lot of time and patience to be gluten-free but it sure is nice to feel good. Rian I was beginning to wonder if anyone was on this... -
ARCHIVED New Here - Hi All!
rattaway replied to mackersandlackers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had two friends in the last week say something about french fries," You can't have french fries either huh?" I just ask them, " You do realize that french fries are potato not wheat right?" It is like no one realizes just what gluten is or obviously what wheat is. Duh. If I get really angry about someones attitude, I just "kill them with kindness... -
ARCHIVED Cheating?
rattaway replied to dianebliquez's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Even though your daughter will inevitably get exposed to gluten, you should still do your part to protect her from the pains (short term and long term). I know that gluten-free can be overwhelming at first but I advise that if your child does get diagnosed with Celiac, You the parent should also be tested. We all have Celiac here. Even when just one person...
