  1. Natalie - i'm so sorry for what you've been through. i also got positive blood results but the doctor remarked after he performed the biopsy how normal everything looked. of course, i got a negative result which confused me beyond belief. then i came on this forum and after much reading and a couple of questions, i've learned that most doctors don...
  2. i've been dairy light for about 3 weeks now. i have a little half & half in my coffee, maybe a yogurt twice a week, a little mayo on my turkey wraps (made with corn tortillas) and that's about it. oh and some parm cheese here and there. i wonder if that's still too much? i have cut down considerably - i was all about cereal for breakfast, a yogurt...
  3. would it be the same for adults too? i'm 1 month gluten free and my stomach still has that distended look. i don't look 8 months pregnant or anything but it definitely isn't normal looking yet.
  4. it all happened very quick for me. i went to the doctor complaining of upset stomach, diarrhea, etc and mentioned my grandmother has Celiac. my doctor ordered a full Celiac panel and when that came back positive, she immediately began talking about a referral to a GI doc for a consult and biopsy. She explained, "the biopsy is the gold standard for diagnosis...
  5. i've been reading a lot from new posters who say they can't get into see a specialist for many weeks or months. i was very fortunate to only have to wait 2 weeks after my blood work came back to see a GI and then only a week after that to have the biopsy. i think the main reason was because i explained to every doctor, nurse and receptionist who would listen...
  6. hi Tye and welcome! in one word, the answer to your question is YES! i had random health issues (joint pain, acne, weight gain and fatigue, of course in addition to the big D) for about a year prior to figuring out it was Celiac. i would have never suspected everything was tied together - and of course, neither did my doctors. (and i realize now that...
  7. thanks for the suggestions everyone! i think we might be going out this weekend so i'll be sure to have one of each LOL
  8. The first thing most people say when i tell them i have Celiac is "OMG, you can't drink beer???" Thank goodness i was never a beer drinker! But my old stand-by was always Smirnoff Ice (you know, the MALTED beverages?) and now i'm left questioning what's good to drink when i go out. I need some simple, easy-for-the-bartender-to-make drink ideas...
  9. well, i guess it's a good thing that we can't eat the bread (and butter) at restaurants!
  10. ha ha Debmidge, that's a good suggestion! Fortunately though i think he's finally starting to understand so i hope i won't have to use that gross (but probably effective) comparison

ARCHIVED I Really Need Help, Please!

my doctor told me my blood looked good (well, of course except for the elevated antibodies that showed Celiac - she kind of mentioned that off handedly). my biopsy was negative but i've have a great response to the diet...and it's only been 3 weeks. nothing would make me go back on gluten. (i'm going for the genetic testing in a few days just because i...
  12. i'm curious myself to hear what others have to say about this. before i went gluten-free (which was only a few weeks ago), diarrhea was my major symptom. now when i'm glutened, i mostly just get nauseous like i'm going to puke but nothing happens. it's usually at night so i just go to bed and i'm fine by the morning.
  13. hi - i'm pretty new at this too but from what i've read just on this board, your symptoms could definitly be Celiac. I had a few of the same symptoms as you...TMJ as a teenager, cracking ankles for as long as i can remember, joint pain in the last year, fatigue, diarrhea plus acne that appeared out of nowhere and gradual weight gain (mostly in the belly...
  14. From what i've learned in the past few months from this board, you don't have to have a ton of the "classic" Celiac symptoms to have the disease. Anemia and fatigue are 2 symptoms of Celiac though. i can't help with the test results but it means something if your doctor is referring you to a GI. that's exactly what my doc did. my initial appointment...
  15. Hi Mally-bug...i'm in a similar situation as you are. (see the thread i started: Open Original Shared Link) Since i just moved away from my immediate family, i don't really know how it is to deal with anyone on a day-to-day basis besides my boyfriend. He likes to cook and i never objected...until now. I am so nervous that he'll do something to unknowingly...
  16. yeah, you'll need to have someone with you. they wouldn't let me go until my grandma got there. aside from being a little groggy, i felt like could have driven but Grandma and the nurse both said no way!
  17. Muffins - i debated the biopsy too but decided to go ahead with it and get it over with while i was still consuming gluten. i hated the thought of being gluten-free only to have to go back on gluten just for the biopsy. i was not nervous about it until i actually got to the hospital and they inserted the IV. but it went very well and the only thing i...
  18. kristionii - are you my long lost sister?? i, too, just want to know so i can get on with my bread-less life. problem is, i can't just accept that i feel better on the diet. there's just something that nags at me that makes me want a definite diagnosis but i'm quickly learning it's just not that simple. best of luck to you...i hope your biopsy comes...
  19. i had joint pain in my hips which also consisted of general leg aches for about 8-10 months before i suspected i had Celiac. i was tested numerous times for mono, Lyme's Disease, arthritis, thyroid, etc (all negative, of course) and also went through a month of physical therapy and multiple cortisone injections before being diagnosed with trochantaric bursitis...
  20. they're starting to go away (very slowly) although not without some new ones popping up. i haven't taken anything nor have i seen a doctor so i'm keeping my fingers crossed they disappear never to be seen again...
  21. ok, all you people who can interpret blood work! what do you see?? Antigliadin Abs, IgA = 1 Antigliadin Abs, IgG = 2 t-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA = 19 (Flagged: HIGH) (there's a note below this one that says "tTG has been identified as the endomysial antigen. Studies have deomonstrated that endomysial IgA antibodies have over 99% specificity...
  22. i'm still waiting for the doctors office to mail the blood work results so i can give you guys the specifics but in the meantime i talked to my GI doc yesterday so he could explain the negative biopsy result and he said the blood could have been a false positive...is that possible or does he not have a clue what he's talking about? he's sending me for...
  23. i cooked some Tinkyada for the first time last night. it was about 1/2 lb of fettuccine and i used a huge pot with a ton of water. i followed the directions on the front of the package - boiled it for 2 minutes, removed it from the heat and let it sit for about 16 minutes. i think i could have gotten away with only 13 or 14 minutes because it was a...
  24. i'm new to this too but my first thought would be for the doctor to take more blood and run a Celiac panel. that's what my doctor did (while i was still on gluten), it came back positive so i was sent for the biopsy (still on gluten). i just got the results - negative - and now my doctor is sending me for more blood work to check for genetic markers. in...
  25. thank you so much to everyone for your supportive replies, suggestions and thoughts. i promise i will never eat a salad after brushing the croutons off ever again. a little background on mine and DBF's situation...we just moved to a new town after living apart for 9 weeks due to his job. long story short, the job isn't working out and we will be moving...
