  1. I would say that's a good assumption Nell. I think that your body is still working very hard to get all of the gluten that's built up out, but your mind of course notices the carbs, sugar, etc. that's now missing from your diet. I, too, go through the stage after immediately eating gluten in which I feel on top of the world -- nothing's wrong, I feel great...
  2. Well, I'm still picking up on cycling, but I like biking/bicycling a lot more. What part of south central PA are you from?
  3. MissyJoy -- if you're like me, you might have intolerances to both gluten AND yeast products (or food with lots of sugar, sweeteners, alcohol-based prodcuts...anything that sets yeast to grow within your body). It's always a possibility... But glad to hear that you're doing a lot better now that you've gone gluten-free!!
  4. I've never drank alcohol to the point of blacking out, but I am definitely a "cheap drunk" as well. I like to think that some of it has to do with my height/weight (I'm 5'1" and weigh an average amount for a woman my height), but I know that some of it also has to do with my Celiac Disease. I'm not acutely "drunk" for days when I drink, but I do have...
  5. I love riding my bike too, so from one bike-riding lover to another...congratulations!!
  6. Oh my...I know right where you're coming from tygwyn. Not getting the words out right, not making sense to a lot of other people, inattentiveness/"spacey" mood...I feel that's the worst thing for me when I've eaten gluten, because I can't even have control over my own mind. Well, it was the beginning of August when I started this thread, and I'm doing...
  7. I'm lactose-intolerant as well and use soy as a substitute for milk, and tofu as a substitute for cheese. How long will these withdrawal s/x last for? Thank you for the response, by the way :-)
  8. If I have been eating gluten for a while and abruptly stop...why do I find that I actually feel WORST instead of better? For instance, it seems as though I get the initial s/x of the runny nose/congestion (I also have yeast allergies), sore joints, and maybe a little stomach pain (nothing big like n/v/d). I then feel "better", or maybe more like myself...
  9. Hey, Just wondering...how many of you suffer SEVERE congestion/runny-nose symptoms, almost like coming down with a seasonal "cold", after eating gluten? One of the prime ways I know I've been glutened (or, some other food intolerance for all I know) is that I go through a whole box of kleenex -- easily -- within a 6-8 hour period of time!! Didn't know...
  10. Yes, I've definitely had bad dreams before, especially as a child before I was fully diagnosed with Celiac Disease at the time. Then again, children are prone to nightmares as it is. How long has it been since you started the gluten-free diet? Because if it's been recent, the stress of that on top of stopping smoking is probably contributing to a number...
  11. Wow...what a bad experience!! I definitely would have walked out, or just disposed of the bread right in front of their eyes so they got the point! Definitely a good call on your part calling the headquarters. I'm going out this Friday and there's a Boston Market right down the street from where I'm going to be -- now I'm curious to see if I'll have...
  12. If you can't see your doctor soon, go to an ER or walk-in clinic. As another member said, this IS a very serious condition. Sounds like you're unfortunately having complications of a kidney infection (the fever, nausea, and pain you said you've been having are huge indicators). Are you experiencing any other symptoms, such as pain/pressure in your lower...
  13. Gorilla Munch cereal from Envirokids (it's very good) with Silk soy milk. Sometimes cream of rice with Silk soy milk as well. I had to cut down on all of the major brand cereals since they have malt extract or malt flavoring in them.
  14. So, I'm an avid coffee drinker, and this topic is one of GREAT concern to me! Anyway, I've heard some rumors that coffee has gluten in it...is that true? And if so, are there any coffee products that do NOT have gluten in them?
  15. Not sure about a product being casein free but not dairy free...however, I am positive that something can be dairy free but still contain casein. In the Coffeemate creamers for instance, they claim that they are gluten and lactose free but they include "sodium caseinate". I missed that the first time and was having some problems until I switched coffee...
  16. Well, I've never had breathing problems, but I can still relate. If I'm in the bread area of a grocery store or around flour, gluten, etc. it eventually gets to me...I mostly get a terrible headache and have difficulty concentrating. I don't know of any other symptoms b/c I've never stayed in a designated area of bread/gluten long enough for additional...
  17. That is very hard when your parents don't support you! Do they know the effects it's causing you, or how damaging it is to your body? Maybe a little education will help them understand more. You can get a lot of good resources right from this website.
  18. Not sure if it's "normal" or not to get diarrhea from chick peas, but I do know that they're gluten free. So you could very well have another intolerance. And no, millet isn't the same thing as corn...it's a different cereal grain. :-) Feel better!
  19. My mind fog effects my ability to concentrate on reading, listening, and even talking to people. I can't form coherent sentences, my mind and words are slow, and I just feel DRAINED. Overall, I feel disassociated and alone. It's not like it's a very different physical feeling for me...just very different cognitively. I feel your frustration, b/c it's...
  20. Thank you so much for your post...I hope they get better too. I didn't have one today but felt like I was on the verge of having one all day... I'll have to look around on this site for other posts about this b/c I'm very curious as to what different people have to say. And also because I don't want this to be a repeat thread for anyone...haha
  21. Hello, First of all, I just have to say that I love being a part of this forum and learning SO many things about Celiac Disease that I never knew before (even though I've had it my whole life). All of your posts have been an inspiration to me in expanding my knowledge about my own tolerances, diet, etc. Thank you so much. But now I would like to start...
  22. Oh -- of course, if you need (additional) support, feel free to send me a private message (PM). I love meeting new people and helping out. :-)
  23. Oh my goodness yes...you are NOT alone!! I do get panic attacks, but whether it is a direct result of being glutened or withdrawal symptoms is questionable...however, I think it could be both. I do lose inability to concentrate on things that need to get done, I become very irritable, irrationally anxious, etc. I literally drive myself up the walls during...
  24. Wow...
