  1. Hello fellow members: I apologize if this board was already posted somewhere else, but maybe you could help me out. I've heard about the cards you can take to different restaurants and let cooks know that you are gluten-intolerant. I also heard how much easier it apparently makes things for the cooks, and the obvious prevention of CC. So, how can...
  2. Yes, it is Vicodin. :-) Tylenol, the generic name for acetaminophen, is a class of itself -- a pain reliever. The prime difference between hydrocodone and acetaminophen is the narcotic component that is found in hydrocodone (also has addicting effects, thus to be given in small or temporary doses, if possible). Anyway, in response to Chewy, I'm sorry...
  3. Spirituality -- of any religion, of any kind -- is a wonderful thing to have. I think sometimes coping with difficult changes in our lives calls for us to rely on something greater to face our obstacles (for those who "feel" it, so to say...I am by no means saying that EVERYONE should feel this way). I'm aware that many members of this forum are making...
  4. Absolutely...without a doubt...I second that!
  5. When is the next meeting? I'm in the Pittsburgh area, and could really use a support group like this..
  6. Thank you so much!!
  7. Amen to that!!! So, out of curiosity, has anyone on this board thought about receiving therapy for this? I have an appt with a new psychologist tomorrow, and I'm going to give it a run...
  8. Hello, I have a question. I notice that there are two pictures for a member: the personal photo, and the image that appears by the username when the member posts on the discussion board. So, how can I get the image that is displayed directly by the username? I already have a personal photo. Thanks!
  9. That's awesome! What exactly is going on? Is it just a big community dinner that's entirely gluten-free? I just might be up for it... :-)
  10. Haha...awesome
  11. Haha. The lying and impulsive acts sound like myself at that age...I've never been officially diagnosed with ADD, but do notice severe mood swings in myself if I accidentally ingest gluten. One minute, I'm this off-the-wall, loud, crazy, and VERY impulisve maniac, but I can easily become depressed, unmotivated, and have difficulties concentrating. When...
  12. Just so you know...your post has been an inspiration to me, and I can closely identify with you on your gluten addiction story...thank you so much. Right now, I'm trying to recover from this bad habit myself. People tell me that all I need is a gluten-free diet to stop the symptoms I have (mood swings and other annoying mental problems, bad headaches, anemia...
  13. I'm in the Pittsburgh area!! You know, there's a really good thai kitchen restaurant right in Oakland if you're ever in downtown Pittsburgh...it's called Lu Lu's Noodles. Not all of their items are gluten-free, but I have in fact ordered gluten-free dishes from there...delicious! I've only been there a couple times but have loved it and want to go back...
  14. I'm currently in the Pittsburgh region...love it :-)
  15. I go to Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, PA.
  16. That's tremendously hard to deal with. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and a low IgA deficiency as an infant, so for my whole life, I've avoided eating food with gluten, wheat, yeast, dairy, & eggs. I'm also allergic to tomatoes, bananas, and chocolate. Just out of curiosity, I've cheated; when I cheated for long enough, I would pay the consequences...
  17. I'm fairly young! Hi :-)
  18. It might be a little easier to want to cheat if when you were diagnosed, you remained asymptomatic to food containing gluten, or just had very little symptoms. The more intolerant you are when you ingest gluten, the less you probably want to cheat. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease all my life -- so I was only TOLD how I reacted to certain food I ate...
  19. "I hope this doesn't come across wrong. In reading the above posts I found myself feeling condemend for sometimes feeling tempted by foods I know I should not eat. Well maybe tempted isn't the right word, missing certian foods I would say." I don't think you came across anything wrong, Chrissyb, b/c that's how I felt after reading some of the above posts...
  20. Hello everyone, Let me just say that after reading the above comments, I felt so much better (and less alone) than I have in a very long time. I'm close to my family and get along wonderfully with them; I have 4 very close girlfriends that I'm grateful for everyday, but somehow you still feel alone when people don't know your secret (and you don't want...
  21. I don't receive Communion every Sunday as a Catholic. Until recently, I used to just cross my arms over my chest and let the priest bless me. But when I started college and attended Mass at the Newman Center, I was told about the rice wafers containing < .01% gluten. It's been reported that it's still perfectly safe for Celiacs to consume; all hosts...
  22. Haha be careful with that. Not all professors have so much sympathy. Depends on who you get, and how tolerant and/or open-minded they're willing to be towards your illness. Unfortunately, same goes with classmates/friends, but usually not as much. If anything, I usually get a lot of questions of curiosity. It's always a great conversation starter! ...
  23. I'm sure the title of this topic caught your eyes a bit off guard. I don't know if I'm the only person to do this on an almost addictive, compulsive basis, but I guess I'll see through the responds I read. I've been diagnosed with Celiac Disease and a low IgA-antibody deficiency for as long as I can remember. When I was an infant, my mother used to give...
