  1. Thanks for you comment. Interesting on the yeast, I rarely eat anything with yeast--it's really only been the gluten free bread the past year and not a whole lot of it. I'll avoid that for now. I'm so glad I did this testing and didn't procrastinate about it. Again, I'm so grateful to the board and you posters!
  2. I haven't posted much here at Celiac, but I have learned so much from all of you--which brought me to getting myself tested through Enterolab and Kimball. I feel so lucky to have found this site that has led me to some answers--I appreicate all of you who take the time to post and share. These results give me hope now that maybe my health will contionue...
  3. I think you'll find a lot of people with similar stories on this board. I'm not one because I read a lot of those stories and decided after 15+ years of IBS and a positive response to a gluten free diet, that I'd just pay for my own gene and antibody tests. I understand that a postive antibody test (the type typically performed through the doctor) is conclusive...
  4. I have sensations that don't seem to necessarily occur in the same spots. I've had them for years, I can't say it's gotten worse, but since I've joined this site and read what others have described, it makes me wonder if this is related to my problems with gluten. I had one of the noticably more severe cases about 5 weeks ago. I describe it as a burning...
  5. I have been mostly gluten free for about a year and the last 5 weeks it's been 100%. I have been sick over 15 years and going gluten free seems to be my only hope of feeling well/better and stopping the progressive downward spiral. I am literally in fear of eating gluten now. My fear outweighs my desire for no-no foods. I have controlled my eating...
  6. I just sent mine off yesterday. Fortunately I'm going on a two week tropical vacation next week that should keep me distracted enough that I can NOT think about it.
  7. Gosh...I don't want to speak too soon, but it sure seems like my sleep has improved since I've gone 100% gluten free 3+ weeks ago (from a year at about 95%) and I've been taking sublingual B12. Waking up 3 or more times a night was normal for me. Now, once I wake up once (which I must because I have to put gel in my eye--another story), I seem to go right...
  8. Deb, good to know. Today is especially loud and it turns out we are going into stormy weather. I'll have to keep my eye on these patterns. I've learned to tune it out for the most part, but days like today, I have to turn the TV up or the radio on for distraction.
  9. I have (undiagnosed) tinnitus in both ears. Very high pitched. I just started taking sublingual B12 less 3-4 weeks ago. Any idea how long it might take when/if it might improve? I don't have HBP.
  10. What you are describing reminds me of my husbands "night terrors". He has read from a forum where people compare their stories--very interesting. In his case, they happen when he is under extreme stress/worry. It freaked me out in the beginning, but the more it happened, the more I sense(d) it and wake him up before he gets to the part when he sits...
  11. I hadn't caught that either. The past year I bought rice, potato and sweet potato noodles from the Asain store. It was only recently that I bought some gluten free labeled pasta and I won't buy it again because it has MSG (pea protein) in it. I never really bought too much in the way of processed foods, and having gone gluten free--I still plan on limiting...
  12. Well...this 16 year IBSer's test results came back today. Here is what I got from Kimball: Positive for a celiac disease-associated HLS allele. DQ2 alleles: DQA1*0501 or *0505 (Detected) DQB1*0201 or *0202 (Not Detected) DQ8 allele: DQB1*0302 (Not detected) I thought they were going to check the alpha on the DQ8(?) Read a...
  13. I'm another success story after going gluten free. I was mostely gluten free the past year (now 100%) and only had problems when I ate gluten--or so I thought--now I have to be very careful with legumes (they apparently do the same). I too eat a lot of fruits and vegetables...I always cook and rarely go out to eat. I still don't have all the answers to...
  14. I'm on a tight budget and I have to watch my pennies! I buy gluten free mixes and snacks from the same on line shop that I buy vitamins from. Free shipping when you buy at least $100 worth of merchandise. They have tiered pricing as well at 3, 6 and 12 quantities. The things I buy I haven't found cheaper anywhere else. The selection is limited. I don...
  15. Thanks! Unfortunately the two I was most interested in aren't in the charts... this will be good for reference though.
  16. I successfully made some gluten free muffins last week (my unaffected husband said he'll eat them and they were good . ) I can't seem to find clear nutrtional information on the flours I used (just browsing the net). More specifically I'm wondering how these muffins would compare to muffins made with white wheat flour. More nutritious? Less? Much...
  17. Thanks CC I was fine a couple hours or so later. Boy, I won't do that for a while again. Well, hopefully never again! Gosh, you really have a terrible reaction to it. It's one thing to be home and sick, but to feel that way when you're traveling!! How terrible!!
  18. I'm sitting here in my office trying to distract myself from the nausea. I had lunch about 2 hours ago and made the mistake of eating a chunk of ginger root that was in the meal. I can add some grated ginger to season a meal, but something like a chunk (1/2" square by 1/8" thick) in a sitting makes me sick. I found out I had a problem with ginger...
  19. I'm sorry, I didn't have the email reply notification set so I didn't see your questione when posted. Anyway, I remember I started keeping a calendar of what I ate, and when I went. I think it took a week to a week and a half before I went regularly. Another thing I did do was to eat more fat because I realized that over the years, I lowered the fat...
  20. Unfortunately increased fiber (like supplements) only made things worse for me--really bad. I always eat lots of fresh fruit and vegetables--before I went gluten-free even prunes didn't touch my constipation. So far gluten-free is producing the best results and I have no problem with that any longer. I'm anxious to see how things go after 6 months...
  21. Is it atypical for celiacs/intolerants to have B-6 and B-2 deficiencies? I realize now that I assumed if the intestines (villi) are compromised there could be a problem with vitamin absorption in general. It may be a stab in the dark, I'm giving the sublingual B-12 a shot because my fatigue and foggy head has gotten progressively worse. It's hard...
  22. I'm a 16+ IBS sufferer that has responded to a mostly gluten-free diet the last 12 months and have more recently gone 100% gluten-free. I'm not willing to do a gluten challenge but I can't help but look back on what could be possible indications of when I may have shown signs of gluten intolerance--outside of my "IBS" symptoms. One striking memory is...
  23. It was my desperate search for relief from constipation that I stumbled upon the possibility it was gluten related. I tried all the generally recommended remedies (fiber, water, exercise). I eat fresh fruits and vegetables everyday, little processed food, cook everyday, bring my own cooked food to work for lunches etc. My husband was even baffled at my...
  24. My constipation was getting really bad, it required laxatives then those stopped working. I tried ALL the recommended stuff...fiber, water, exercise etc. etc. A year ago I greatly reduced (~95% free) gluten from my diet and it immediately alleviated my constipation. I'm now going 100% and hoping that my 16 year struggle with diagnosed IBS will if not...
  25. Thanks for the response. I'm using dry beans...soak, rinse and cook. Makes me sad, I love my beans!
