  1. I have literally run a low grade fever for three years (not a typo either). It's getting better since I went gluten-free and have gotten my blood sugar under better control. If I get "glutened" or have a wild swing in my sugar, it's an immediate fever. Hope that answers your question. Brenda
  2. Well, I know guar gum has fiber, and I can't have a lot of that. So I am guessing that's what I'm reacting to. So many of the products that are labeled gluten-free have guar gum in it - I'm referring to things like cake mixes and such that you find at the health food store. I wonder if guar gum makes things stick together better than the xantham and that...
  3. Judy, How do you get a meter? Doesn't the doc have to prescribe that??
  4. tarnalberry, I had a horribly reaction to almond milk, so I'm thinking I am allergic to them. ?? I can have cheese, and I picked up some soy yogurt today. We'll see if it makes me ill. Hard boiled eggs are what I do in the morning sometimes. But hadn't really thought of doing them throughout the day. (Duh) Thanks for the suggestions. Does anyone know...
  5. Linda, For BBQ sauce (for chicken), I put one cup of Heinz ketchup, plus one can of Pepsi. Stir with a wisk, marinade overnight, and either fry or put on the grill. Makes a pretty tender, yummy tasting dish. Not to mention cheap! Enjoy! Brenda
  6. Hey, Went to Vitamin Cottage today and found Glaceau smart water. It's distilled water with electrolytes in it. This is great for me, since I have tested low for calcium/potassium. Has anyone ever tried their vitamin waters or their flavored electrolyte water? There's natural flavor in the flavored electrolyte water...so I am not sure if it's gluten-free...
  7. Judy04, I haven't been diagnosed with diabetes. But I'm positive I have blood sugar issues. My doc put me on an herb that is suppose to do the same thing as glucaphage/metformin. These are the insulin resistant drugs that docs put diabetics on (my grandma is on it). Anyway, the herb does the same thing. I've noticed a good difference in the way my tummy...
  8. Are there any celiacs out there that also have diabetes? Is it common for these two diseases accompany each other? Also, if you do have diabetes, do you find that when your blood sugar is high, you are very sleepy with an upset stomach?
  9. Hi All, I'm looking for ideas for some high protein snacks. It can have some carbs, but not a bunch. I eat little bits throughout the day (except for lunch time, and that's still pretty small). So I find myself feeling like I have to fix a chicken breast or something in order to just get a quick fix.....which isn't so quick. I eat a lot of cashews...
  10. The sugar filled pb cups are gluten-free too. Brenda
  11. Hi all, Just wondered if you have heard of tonic water, and if you have tried it, does it help your tummy after you ingest gluten (accidentally of course!)? Brenda
  12. Funny you should say that about blood sugar. My doc put me on an herb that is for insulin resistance because of polycystic ovarian syndrome. It does the same thing that the drugs they put diabetics on, which is stabilize your blood sugar. Well...when I take it, I have way less of a problem with acid in my stomach. When I have less of a problem with that,...
  13. I have considered chlorophyll before. What brand do you use? Brenda
  14. So, if I wanted to make brownies with Splenda instead of sugar, would I use the same amount?
  15. Hmmm....can't do the dairy thing yet. I've been off of milk and yogurt and such for three years and still can't eat it. Of course, I've only been gluten-free for about a month, so I'm hoping that I'll heal enough to partake!!! Love those ideas though....sound yummy! Brenda
  16. Mariann, GP is when your food won't empty out of your stomach into the small intestine. It can cause a lot of the same symptoms as celiac....dehydration, malnutrition, etc. A lot of people that have it don't eat for months. Some get feeding tubes. Some even have their stomachs taken out or have transplants. It's crazy!!! I lost nearly 50 pounds in four...
  17. If you are just beginning the diet, you might not be healed enough to not have a reaction. In other words, I've been gluten-free for over a month, but I still don't digest things well (but better!). Give your body time to heal, and give yourself room for mistakes. You might want to just stick to the basics.....meat, potatoes, veggies, etc. I do a lot of bbq...
  18. Hmmm.....sooo.....is Splenda bad for you?? Kind of sounds like it's not that great of a thing to put in your system.
  19. Just curious as to what foods, supplements, etc. have helped you heal? My doc has me on some glutamine, which is supposed to be great for healing the gut. Also, bananas seem to soothe my system better than any other food. Other than that, I haven't found much that sits exceptionally well. Admittedly, I haven't been gluten-free for that long. I'd love to hear...
  20. I have used Garden of Life, and they make me sleepy. I think it has something to do with my stomach (gastroparesis). Seems like anything that makes my stomach work better, makes me indredibly tired. I switched to Enzymatic Therapy (Mega-Zyme), thinking that maybe it was the brand. But it had the same affect. I don't understand at all why it has this affect...
  21. I have heard of Splenda. What exactly is it? And I'm assuming it's gluten-free? Why don't you like it? Does it not raise blood sugar levels? Hope that's not too many questions. Brenda
  22. Well...when I first went gluten-free, I was basically eating meat, veggies and cashews, with a few potato chips here and there. Now that I've added some of the junk food that is gluten-free (snickers, Doritos, etc.), I'm not doing as good. So maybe a whole foods diet would work better, until I heal. I've only been gluten-free for a month or so. What...
  23. Sigh..... Well, maybe we're all just getting old!! I see lots of older women walking around who aren't heavy, but have big bellies. Just a thought....
  24. Hey, Before even receiving a reply from anyone, I ate them. No reaction from gluten! I was pretty sure they were gluten-free according to the ingredients, but I'm such a newbie....I was just so SCARED!!! Anyway, they are actually pretty good. Definitely not the real thing....but good. It makes me feel like I've had some chocolate anyway. Thanks...
  25. Mine is actually pretty thick....the hairdressers always are amazed. But it's still not as thick as it once was (and I'm only 32)....and it just doesn't grow that quickly. At least not for me. I'm sure it has something to do with not getting enough nutrients. Doesn't make it any funner though. :-)
