Thanks to everyone for replying. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only on this diet gaining weight, not that I'm happy you are by all means, it's just that I was trying to figure out why this was happening. I'm also a diabetic and started using the Insulin pump in July of 2009 and I was considering taking the pump off for a few months because I thought...

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination
1morething replied to dhiltonlittle's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was like you when I first started on the gluten free diet. Few symptoms, mild reactions to gluten. But now, 18 months into the gluten free journey, the symptoms are immediate and last up to a week. I don't understand why we get worse as we heal....is that typical?? -
I've been gluten free since Nov.2008 and I went for supper at my mother-in-laws tonight and she had made meatloaf. So I asked what she put in it and she said "nothing bad, I put meat, onions salt, pepper, and soya sauce". Hmmmm OK Then I asked did you put bread crumbs in your meat. She said "No, I only put a piece of bread" :o :o I can't believe...

ARCHIVED How Common Is Lactose Intolerance In Celiac's?
1morething posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed with Celiac in October of 2008. I've been completely Gluten Free ever since, with the exception of getting accidently glutened. Lately I've had incredible bloating and belly cramps for no reason. From writing what i've eaten the past few days, I've noticed that I had yogurt one day and Glucerna Shakes the other day. Could I now be Lactose... -
ARCHIVED Soya Sauce
1morething posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been told that Soya Sauce had gluten. What if there is no mention of wheat in the ingredients? Here are the ingredients: Water, Salt, Caramel, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Corn Syrup, Glucose-Fructose, Sodium Benzoate. Does this mean it's gluten free?? Rachel -
I was like you. I've been gluten free for a year now. If I did get glutened, I wouldn't feel it, maybe the occasional bloating but that's about it. BUT it all started 2 weeks ago while I was on a business trip and I ate a McDonalds Southwest salad with Grilled chicken. The chicken was full of gluten (wheat & barley). Well Even though I only had ...

when you're in pain from getting glutened? I have the worse stomach cramps I've ever had, to the point where I cannot eve stand straight. Work ordered out chicken yesterday for lunch and I'm thinking I got glutened by either the chicken or the C/C from the bun being in the box. Who knows. Is there any special remedy to get rid of these cramps?

ARCHIVED How Long Does A Gluten Reaction Last?
1morething posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Last Thursday night while away from home on a business trip, I had a Southwest salad with grilled chicken from McDonalds. I specifically told them I has a gluten allergy and asked them what was in salad. Well when I got back to my hotel to eat the salad, as I was eating, I looked up the ingredients online. Well the chicken had wheat and barley gluten... -

Hey Crankies...LoL, Good luck with the gluten-free diet. It's not that hard once you get going. You have to be carefull for CC. I'd also check the sushi and Indian food. Soya sauce is a big No No and so are alot of spices in indian food. Check and read ingredients carefully. Good luck -
ARCHIVED Symptoms With Time.....

I've was diagnosed in Oct.08 and been eating gluten free since Nov.08. Although I didn't have major symptoms, occasional bloating and constipation, I've felt alot better since eating gluten-free. I have to admit that I have eaten stuff that I shouldn't have in the past month, but I've had no symptoms what so ever. No Bloating, no pains, no C. My question... -

Hi all, I'm a sales rep. for a beverage packaging company. My territory is Eastern Canada so I travel alot. It's not easy going to restaurant. I have to say I get glutened alot. When glutened, I get the C with bloating & pains . Not very comfortable when I'm talking with customers. But at least I'm not worried about having to run to the bathroom... -

ARCHIVED Is Slim Fast Gluten Free?
1morething replied to ssteen's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Here in Canada, the slim-fast optima say in the ingredients "may contain Wheat". I use the Glucerna shakes for diabetics, they have a slow releasing carb which is better for you. And they are gluten free!! It's a good alternative when you have nothing gluten free on hand to eat. Rachel -
ARCHIVED Question For The Less Sensitive: How Far Do You Go?
1morething replied to Tallforagirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been gluten free for 2 months now. I have a husband and a daughter that eat regular food. I have my own toaster, peanut butter jar and butter but other than that, I don't worry to much about C/C on production lines. I went out for supper Saturday and actually got glutened by the salad dressing. I was able to see the bottle to read the ingredients... -
I actually just got glutened this past Saturday at a restaurant. I was so careful about ordering my steak without spices, my desert chocolate moose without cookie, but I didn't ask about the salad dressing. Well 1 hours after having the salad, the cramps and bloating came back. I was so in pain. Yesterday I was so tired and today the diarrhea. So yes...

Allo Isabelle, I've been shopping at Les glutineries in Brossard. I usually get her bread, the white bread made with rice. I find it very good. My mother has made some different type breads in her bread maker but I find them to be very crummy. Unless you toast the bread, it breaks up into pieces and it's very difficult to eat a sandwich. I found... -
Hi Mark, I too am a diabetic since the age of 11. I'm 37 now and was just diagnosed with Celiac. Believe me, I've been gluten free since the day I found out. I figure I don't need or want anymore auto-immune diseases. Diabetes and Celiac is enough. You're still young so probably don't see the long term effects you could get, but I'm getting up there...

ARCHIVED Could It Be Something Else?
1morething replied to JillyO's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Jillio, Sorry to hear about all these autoimmune problems you have. I'm afraid that the positive blood work pretty much confirms that you have Celiac. I'm in the same boat as you, I have Type 1 Diabetes, Thyroid problems and Celiac (diagnost Oct 7th with a Positive IgA blood test). I got a biopsy done Nov.12, but that was just to see how much damage... -
My 15 year old made a Betty Crocker cake today with a bunch of friends and when I got home from work, the kitchen was a mess. She put the entire cake mix in 1 round cake mold instead of 2 so the entire thing overflowed in the oven. I cleaned the oven and took the cake out of the mold because it was stuck and cleaned everything up. Now I'm having pains...
