Yeah they do have to accommodate you. There are lots of people in jail with dietary restrictions, like diabetics, etc. And lots of people on medications, too. However, the system is far from perfect and mistakes happen or you get some jerk who refuses to comply. I've seen stupidity abound at jails. Also, sometimes right at the beginning of a jail/prison...

ARCHIVED Heart Skipping
caek-is-a-lie replied to caek-is-a-lie's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It was checked when I went to the ER for the palpitations. A few days later the doctor I saw said the results were exactly right in the middle of "normal" and so that wasn't the problem. But I never got to see the numbers myself. When I started seeing the Naturopath, they requested the results and it turns out I was just a tick away from hypothyroid according... -
ARCHIVED Tested Positive - Should We Change Diet Day 1?
caek-is-a-lie replied to DadCares's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah I'd just keep her eating gluten until you have the biopsy. It won't do much more damage than has already been done and better to get a positive endoscopy to prove she has it and then go gluten-free for life afterwards. It will help her be taken seriously by doctors in the future. I wish I could be so lucky as to have that chance. Best of luck to... -
ARCHIVED Heart Skipping
caek-is-a-lie posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Before I stopped eating gluten, my heart was skipping quite frequently (like stopping for a couple seconds repeatedly) and I was diagnosed with an arrhythmia. Since then I've quit caffeine, which helps mostly, but it didn't totally go away until I went 100% gluten-free. Anyone else have this problem? I know my Celiac brother had this problem a few years... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Get A Test Done But Im Worried ...
caek-is-a-lie replied to mr. moore's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The tiniest little remnant of a crumb that I tried to wash off my fork with soap and lots of hot water. That's how much. (someone used my fork at work to eat cake! Ahhh the horror!!! I seized all night.) -

ARCHIVED What Symptoms Are Reliable Indicators For Recovery
caek-is-a-lie replied to tmb's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yep me too! I've only been 100% gluten free for 3 weeks, but I was gluten-light for awhile. My weight is the most obvious thing. Before, when I ate gluten every day, I was STARVING but I ate and ate and got fatter and fatter and was always hungry. I could exercise every day for 3 months and not lose a pound. Now I've lost 20 lbs. It was slow at first... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
caek-is-a-lie replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Yes mhb this is exactly what I fear. And that fear is founded on solid experience from going through diagnosis and treatment for my Narcolepsy. Just being proactive about my health makes them treat me like a drama queen but I assure you I couldn't be further from it. I think it's possible that although I had a negative serum test, I do have Celiac... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Get A Test Done But Im Worried ...
caek-is-a-lie replied to mr. moore's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Haha I want YOUR doctor! My doctor said via e-mail the basic equivalent of "if it hurts, don't do it" and left it at that. Testing was optional. He didn't think testing was necessary but at the same time left it up to me to figure out what to call it. Doctors confuse me. Is 4 weeks gluten free too late to do a blood test? He wouldn't say. I'll never... -

rotfl. You are totally right. I need to change my personal bias against "intolerant". I also find myself suddenly lactose intolerant in going 100% gluten-free, but hopefully that will subside. I loved "cyanide intolerant". That was great. -
ARCHIVED New Saliva Test- Any Info?
caek-is-a-lie replied to scooper's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ok, first I went to the website and saw it was a company, so then I headed over to good ol' Pub Med to find some real scientific research on the subject. Good news! Most studies show that while the saliva test isn't quite as sensitive as a blood test, it has been found several times over to be a reliable indicator of antigens. Let me know how your test... -
ARCHIVED Major Sleep Disorders And Celiac
caek-is-a-lie replied to citykatmm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Provigil has gluten so it's no wonder you chucked it. When I tell doctors it didn't help me they say that's not normal and infer I don't have Narcolepsy. silly. I never even knew until a couple of weeks ago that it has gluten and now I think "well no wonder!" But it's not like they'd listen to me anyway even if I did try to explain it. Glad to hear... -
I haven't eaten there in a long time, but the best thing to do would be to call ahead and ask. Then you will know before hand and can prepare accordingly. Good luck!

ARCHIVED College Next Fall
caek-is-a-lie replied to missnbagels's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Usually you are allowed to keep a mini fridge in your room, so that's a plus. I was not gluten-free in college but I should have been. I just didn't know yet. I kept dry goods on my bookshelf and perishables in my fridge. I can give some advice about the cafeteria tho. I worked in the main cafeteria in college so I know what goes on there. Most... -
ARCHIVED Is This Normal?
caek-is-a-lie replied to cressy75's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If I said this to my boyfriend, he'd be rolling on the floor in fits of laughter. For me, there are quite a few fruits that mess with my brain that I have to avoid completely. Same with gluten-free grains. Some of us here have more than one food problem and sometimes going gluten-free makes these other foods more apparent. You might find you're in the... -
ARCHIVED Multiple Allergies And Growing:
caek-is-a-lie replied to Gerri's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Yeah I can put a big ME TOO under that one. I already have to avoid all grains, sugars, banana, kiwi, apples, pears, peaches, mango, chamomile, shell fish, persimmon, yeast, squash, beans (not all legumes tho), sage, MSG, and caffeine. Some of it just bloats me, but most of those give me neurological problems. Then recently I add ALL gluten to that list... -
ARCHIVED Best Dog Breeds For Kids?
caek-is-a-lie replied to JennyC's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Half poodle half maltese is what we had growing up. She was great and never shed. She was toy-sized but her litter mates were all medium sized dogs. They have great temperment. She was also very smart, loved kids and playing with cats. Her best friend was an orange tabby. lol -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
caek-is-a-lie replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is me 100% except I don't know if I have gut damage because no one's looked. So at least 2/3 for me. Your description of "gluten intolerant" doesn't even come close to the severity of my symptoms so I don't see how I can keep using it...but where does that put me? This is all so confusing. -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else Tired Of "celiac" Vs "gluten Sensitive"?
caek-is-a-lie replied to mhb's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I completely agree. My family members have Celiac so I was tested 10 years ago. It came back "negative" only because I didn't pass a certain threshhold. But did I have any antibodies in my blood? Did they even do the test right to begin with?? Who knows? Now I'll probably never get tested because my doctors have no interest in doing it and I've already... -
ARCHIVED Negative Blood Test...but Lots Of Celiac Symptoms!
caek-is-a-lie replied to christybeasley's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Oh man, I'm 5'10" and people think I look anorexic at 140 (which I'm not right now, btw...except in my dreams...lol) I got a negative result on my blood test 10 years ago (Celiac runs in my family), but now I'm having tons of symptoms and my doctors ignore me, so with no hope of ever being tested, I just went gluten-free myself. It's worked pretty well... -
ARCHIVED Which Turkey's Are Gluten Free?
caek-is-a-lie replied to CeliacStinksKLS's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh man that sucks! No wonder the last turkey I cooked gave me problems. I never even thought they'd ever inject a raw bird with gluten. Those cads! Argh. Here I thought I was being good and gluten-free with any old frozen turkey from Safeway. I had no idea what to look for. I had 2 turkeys that I thought would feed us for awhile, but I guess my boyfriend... -
Ok ok people. Enough with the forum fight. As a scientist, I can tell you there are quite a few things that could be going on here. Here are my thoughts on all the possibilities: 1. Science is slow. Sometimes agonizingly so. He may be still working on some aspects of the study that need to be completed in order to submit a paper for review. ...

Oh yeah I get those dreams all the time. Usually it's nightmares all night long about reading labels and trying to cook, or accidentally eating an entire chocolate cake before realizing it's a regular wheat cake. But the other night I finally had the good dream where I ate gluten-free chocolate chip cookies and nothing happened! Oh it was so wonderful...

ARCHIVED Gluten Ataxia
caek-is-a-lie replied to Amber M's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well, keep in mind, that is only a theory that a few people hold. However these are all people that have made their Narcolepsy symptoms much better since going gluten free. You will have to see how going gluten free works for you. I have several foods I avoid to remain med-free for my Narcolepsy, however this is not a conventional treatment and it may...
