I went on a self prescribed gluten free diet about 3-4 weeks ago. My blood test came back IgA deficient so I had to book a GI appointment so I can talk with the GI and hopefully get a endoscopy soon. Only problem is the appointment isn't until April 8th
I seem to be in some weird recovery process but with lots of fatigue and headaches. So I am not sure that if I get back on gluten now, will that month pause of no gluten effect my endoscopy? Or can I wait even a little longer to purposely damage myself, because even if the appointment is on April 8th the procedure wouldn't be for another few weeks after that.

I have had on and off anemia for about 7 years with many infusions. Not sure about the inflammation but I know I've always had a pretty easy time getting infusions even with extremely low ferretin and/or Hemoglobin. the above poster explained it right, a quick saline drip for a bit and then they plug in the iron. There is a chance that you can feel woosy or nauseous when getting the iron and if it gets bad just tell them and they run the straight saline again and it evens you out then back on iron, which has happened to me once out of the many infusions I've had.
And ya, bring something to do and if your celiac bring food and drink! They used to serve me sandwiches back when I wasn't celiac which was great, now I bring lots of food and magazines and mp43 player.
Not sure about the inflammation. Your knowledge of iron and what you and your doctor are looking into is a lot deeper than what I know and went through.

I have been gluten-free for about 3 weeks now and just in the past 3 days I have been eating like crazy as well. It seems every time I have a meal of any size, I'm hungry again very soon. And at night I can even hear my stomach digesting my bedtime snack as I try to sleep! I ate complete garbage and constant fast food before going gluten-free so I am going to explore more of this blood sugar crash thing and review my diet again. Oh and also I get light headed and have weird balance issues in the mornings and just before bed, whats with that?

I dont get back pain but I get aches in joints and major fatigue on my self-subscribed gluten-free diet. I've been told the healing process after going gluten free can be painful and difficult, as in, you get better before you get worse.
Also listening to riceguy's advice might help. Deficiency in some minerals can make for a whole load of problems, especially when gluten effects your Villi that absorb the nutrients from your food.

I'm afraid that since the last post for this topic was back in December, I wont get a reply for this post, but I feel I need to vent and state whats wrong with me anyways.
After having a bad flu in early January, many weird health issues have risen up. I have a long history of anemia and did every GI test to see what was wrong and nothing showed up as to why. Eventually I was just given iron injections and they managed to keep my iron up for short periods of time.
After this flu in January I started getting heart palpitations after eating sometimes and eventually went to the hospital with fear that heart problems could lead to worse stuff if left alone. The doctor that night suggested I look into celiac. That morning after, I joined this forum and went gluten free myself as I was worried about the amount of school I was missing.
About a week after, my doc told me I was IgA deficient, my b12 and other mineral levels where fine, but I had anemia again. So I now have a GI appoitment for April (uuuuughhh, long wait) to look into a biopsy (and yes Ill consume gluten for good biopsy results).
Shortly after this diagnosis I developed extreme fatigue, that happened every day. I just assumed it was either the anemia fatigue or the healing process when going gluten free. But this is getting bad, I seem to show symptoms of adrenal fatigue such as
lightheaded dizzy feeling when standing up even after sitting for a few minutes
I have an extremely tough time falling asleep, almost like Im "too tired to sleep" as i've put it
I have broken sleep
also bright lights bother me and staring at the computer screen to long now gives me headaches ( as a gamer I've NEVER had an issue like this)
So is it just me being paranoid or crazy, or does anyone think I may actually have adrenal problems?
Any advice would be great, I stress easily as it runs in the family, and I never feel better until I know whats wrong with me!

Hello everyone!
I am in the process of being tested for celiac. I am IgA deficient and am awaiting a GI appointment for a biopsy.
As a desperate measure to stay healthy and stay in school i went gluten free about 3 weeks ago without the consent of a doctor. (syptoms are only heart palps/high BPM/fatigue when glutened so far).
I have a long history of severe anemia, mainly low ferretin (spelling?), and about 1 week after going gluten free my doctor told me I had low ferretin again. Shortly after this news, I developed harsh fatigue and weakness that does not seem to be going away.
I went to Europe last summer for 5 weeks with a ferretin level of 1 and did very well with MILD fatigue. My Level is 15 now and it hurts to go upstairs to my kitchen. (hurts as in exhaustion, short of breathe)
To get to the point: I admit to eating like crap most of my life; fast food, drinking, low exercise, lots of computer time etc. When I went gluten free I cut ALL OF THIS out. I ate extremely healthy with barely any sugars and now I'm experiencing this horrible fatigue.
I have a sneaky suspicion this change is diet is the cause to my fatigue, or maybe some kind of really long sugar crash. So far my questions on this site have been answered really well and I thank you all for that.
So once again, any suggestions/comments? Maybe I should consult a dietitian?

I am still getting tested to see if I actually have celiac. I had the blood test and I was IgA deficient so Im seeing a GI soon. My symptoms since going gluten free myself are evolving and are never the same 2 days in a row.
Last night I tried some gluten, as my doctor recommended I be glutened for seeing the GI so he can properly diagnose me. I had half a bowl of honey nut cheerios and started to feel weak and tired and my heart starts pounding a little heavier, all of this which I've experienced before but, just before bed I develop nausea! I managed to fall asleep for an hour with gravol, and woke up feeling nauseous still! took me 2-3 hours after that to fall asleep and now that Im up this morning I don't feel nauseous but I have a bad headache.
Could all this be due to the gluten?
Also I have severe anemia right now that's crippling me and keeping me out of school!
This is all just horrible, I was eating anything and drinking and partying a month ago and I've fallen apart!

Ever since I went gluten free I have been experiencing symptoms of EE. If I don't chew my food enough, larger pieces seem to get stuck at the back of my throat. It happens on random days and I'm trying to link it to something I'm eating maybe (heard food allergies can trigger it). Bananas are the only thing I can think of that I ate on those problematic days, but, bananas? too weird.
Anyone else going through this? not only do I now have to pick out gluten, but I now have to focus on soft foods just to keep it down!

I have hunted up and down on the net looking if people have problems with mustard. I understand the vinegar in it can be a problem depending on the type but the seed itself, a problem?
I need it to complete my sandwich! Gluten free bread, sandwich meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato and mustard!

Hey everyone. I am not diagnosed for celiac yet, seeing the doctor tomorrow, but last friday when i cut gluten out of my diet completely, I have been suffering from extreme fatigue, and its really harsh. I remember being droopy and fatigued when I was anemic last year but this is a whole lot worse. It seems I can only get it under control by literally doing nothing and staying well fed. Even sitting upright at the computer is tiring me out!
Anyone know whats causing this? Ill be asking my doctor tomorrow as well, but since he'll just probably send me for tests Ill have to put up with this feeling until then maybe. any ideas on how to deal with it myself?

Every once and a while I get ringing in my ears. Im not fully diagnosed with celiac yet, but it's weird how every little symptom people mention on these forums I end up experiencing myself. And I've only had problems for a week! Looks like Im in for a long road of discomfort!
Also I get some popping of the ears like head pressure. It seems to happen right after eating anything at all. anyone else?
-
I am waiting for my doctors appointment in very early Febuary. It seems that everyone on these forums suffer from stomach problems when consuming gluten, yet it appears that my only symptom for now is extremely annoying heart palpitations for hours on end after eating gluten, which also keep me up at night. Also I am apparently no longer anemic, which I have been dealing with for years.
Whats going on? Am I looking into the wrong thing as to the cause of all this?

Wow to the above poster, that really sucks! Just when I think I'VE got issues, someone else's problems always trump it.
Still waiting to get tested and diagnosed with celiac, but my sleep is horrible on the nights that Im pretty sure Ive had gluten.
I never get nightmares or anything, I just can never sleep becuase it seems my heart pounds a little heavier than usual and kinda wants me to stay awake. weird feeling indeed.
And to relate to the above poster, I too am working hard at school and it's screwing things up!

Wow the whole detox with water thing really helps. I actually slept last night thank god! The food journal thing is a good idea and Im starting one but Im having a lot of problems figuring out what all has gluten and what doesnt. It seems to be that I either have to constantly check ingredients and refer to charts on the internet to see if its safe, or just go with what ever ive figured out already that doesnt hurt me.
I had an all natural granola bar today with rolled oats, honey and nuts and it gave me problems. it was literally the healthiest thing I could have picked at my school consession stand lol. But I guess I have to understand that eating only healthy stuff doesnt mean gluten free.
The main thing im concerned about is that I havnt been technically diagnosed with celiac yet, and ive only noticed these heart palps and soreness after eating for 2 days now. If I do get tests done for celiac, then they wont be done and worked out for quite a long time, not sure how to handle all this in the mean time.
also I dont take cold medicine before bed or any medicine for that matter. Ive never been much of a pill taker.

Wow this is an amazing amount of help in one day thankyou all. I am seeing my hemotologist on tuesday but until then i seem to keep eating things that make my heart react the same way as noted at the beggining of this thread.
Is there anything I can do to calm the feeling down until I get the proper tests and diagnoses? As long as I can sleep I feel I can put up with the disscomfort for now.
Also yes i will be mentioning thyroid as well to be checked becuase that sounds alot like what Im going through.

My heart palpitations are always because of food intolerance. Do you still eat dairy / casein?
Meline
Yes I do eat dairy, and I dont even know what casein is! Im not technically diagnosed with celiac yet, but all signs seem to be pointing that way, I dont know if i should start cutting out glutten right away to be safe? I'm in a very demanding school program so any help or self treatement would be great asap! Also, Ive never experienced stomache aches or cramping in a long long time.

I am having trouble sleeping as my heart seems to be keeping me up. Its like every time i try to completely fall asleep my heart will beat just a little quicker to keep me awake. Ive been dealing with anemia for years and now and a doctor I saw last says I show symptoms of celiac disease. I have never had sleep problems or disorders.
anyone getting the same problem? there seems to be many posts about this kind of stuff, although alot of them are never exactly what your experiencing yourself.

I've had a bit of experience in that area. I am still going through testing to see if I have celiac but about 3 weeks ago I went to the hospital one night after what seemed to be something caught in the back of my throat and I had to swallow a lot as well. They did the small scope thing as well and found nothing but a scratch and no swelling. I panicked a lot that night in thinking it was cutting off breathing but it really wasn't.
So I thought this was just me choking on something that night and didn't think much of it afterward. That next morning after, I ate something and the same feeling happened, so I calmed myself down and realized that it wasn't blocking off my airway but merely making some sort of block in my esophagus.
This happened on and off for about 2 weeks until one day, I noticed that it happened only on days that I ate a banana (I have been keeping a food diary for keeping track of gluten).
So since cutting out bananas I haven't had serious blocking, yet every once and a while I get a weak swollen throat so I am going to be talking to my doc about it soon to get tested for EE on the safe side.
I have read that EE can be allergy related and often happens when you get an autoimmune disorder (celiac) so maybe try and keep a food journal and see if it's something your eating.
Also there is a good EE website for more info.
