ARCHIVED 6 Days Of Gluten Free And Things Seem Worse?!
foodiegurl replied to balmerhon's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am by no means an expert, but from my personal experience, I felt worse before I felt better. Well, gosh, i never even felt bad before diagnosis, I was basically symptom-free, then I cut out gluten, those first 2 weeks were awful! Everything hurt my tummy, and my #2 experiences were not pretty either. From what I read, I am assuming it was because... -
ARCHIVED Pernicious Anemia And Omeprazole (prilosec)
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I really don't think I have symptoms...lately, I have only been sleeping 7 hours a day, since i stay up late, wake up early, keep up with my 4-year old all day, and keep her social calendar full. I rarely ever nap, and by the time I do get to bed at midnight or later, I lay in bed reading for 30 min or so. So, I definitely feel like I have energy. If i... -
Thanks Brent, that cheered me up. Especially the punching in the face part! Unfortunately, I am a vodka girl rather than whiskey, and now I guess it is more difficult to find good and gluten-free vodka..grrrr..... The gluten-free diet, I feel I have a pretty good handle on and it helps that I love cooking fresh veggies and everything from scratch. ...

Yesterday, I got a call from the nurse saying my B12 was low, and the Dr wants me to test for pernicious anemia, by taking the parietal antibody test next week. Of course being the word pernicious freaks me out in that it means fatal :( I have been gluten free for 2 1/2 months, I am not sure what my beginning b12 was..but would it have improved by...

Could anyone suggest an experienced dietician or nutritionist in the Chicago-area, or just north of the city? I would really like to find one who is experienced with Celiac. What about a naturopath?
-
I have not yet, and no one responded on here I am getting my biopsy done locally, and then after that I guess I will find a new GI Dr....i guess i was thinking I would get a referral for one at the Univ of Chicago, since they are leading drs in the field right? Though, since i am living north of the city that will be one long drive! Most of my drs...

ARCHIVED How Long Does It Take For Iron To Improve With Diet?
foodiegurl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just curious, generally, how long until one sees improvement with iron levels after going gluten-free? Will they go up with diet alone, or must we also take vitamins? I have been gluten-free for 3 months, and still have low iron, but I have not been taking vitamins I am not sure of the exact numbers, but will ask at my appt next week. -
ARCHIVED Pernicious Anemia And Omeprazole (prilosec)
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have actually been fully gluten-free for 3 months now, and the biopsy is more to check for the h.pylori, I also have, rather than the celiac. I am not going to eat gluten again! I did not get tested before I started the prilosec, even though I requested to be I always ask to have my vitamins checked since I don't eat meat, but for some reason, she... -

ARCHIVED Pernicious Anemia And Omeprazole (prilosec)
foodiegurl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I had my dr run tests last week on iron and b12 to see how they were. I have always been low in iron, but was not sure about b12. I spoke to her today...and yes, I have low b12 ( i don't know specific numbers), and she wants me to test for pernicious anemia by taking the parietal antibody test (?), and then I will go back t her next week. She is not... -
ARCHIVED Hosting A Dinner Party Or Bbq
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree about the beer, I am totally fine with that since it would leave crumbs. I never thought I would be so strict, but now that I know more about Celiac, and our house is gluten-free, I would probably make someone leave their item outside too! -
I was just curious how everyone handles this. I have always loved hosting dinner parties or cook outs, and don't want to stop now. Our house is 100% gluten-free...and I feel that since it is my house, I don't want people bringing gluten in, and having to worry about CC at my own party. We will be having a few dinner parties through the summer, and...

ARCHIVED Wild Harvest Organics Brand
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called the distributers of Wild Harvest, and basically they took down my info and told me someone would get in touch within 72 hours. There is no gluten info on their web site..or anywhere I have tried searching. Any info would be appreciated, and i will post what I find out when/if I do =) -
ARCHIVED Was It The Sausage, red Wine Or Cheese?
foodiegurl replied to Tra cy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you know the sausage was 100% safe, my guess would be the red sauce and wine. I know in my first couple of weeks, I had a horrible reaction after red wine and anything acidic...maybe because my body was suddenly absorbing stuff it had not been in a while, and was in "shock"? But, I do remember those first few weeks as pretty frustrating and horrible... -
ARCHIVED Wild Harvest Organics Brand
foodiegurl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had some chips and salsa by Wild Harvest Organics today, and felt pretty awful after. They both looked safe, so I am assuming it was something else, but was wondering if anyone knew anything about these products. I searched online and couldn't find anything. Thanks!! -
I have been gluten-free now for 2 months, and feel good...but I didn't have symptoms before, so it is also a bit hard to tell. At the time I found out I had Celiac, I found out I had h.pylori, which is what I was originally tested for. At the time, I refused the antibiotics, because of my allergies to 3 types of antibiotics, and refused the biopsy. ...

I was just diagnosed by blood by my local GI in March. Well, not "officially" diagnosed since I refused the biopsy. I actually have a follow-up today, and I think I am going to request the biopsy now, but more for the h.pylori than the celiac, and do not want to do a gluten challenge. However, I am not crazy about this dr, and would rather find someone...

ARCHIVED Iugr - Growth Restriction - Advice On Premie
foodiegurl replied to MichelleinMA's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
My daughter had IUGR (and I had severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP), but it was not caught until she was born. She was born at 38 weeks, at only 4 1/2 pounds, but other than being small, she was perfectly healthy! And by 6 mos, she was the same size as all the other 6 mos old babies -
ARCHIVED Door County, Wisconsin
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I apologize, I didn't mean to come off as offensive at all I am actually living in Kenosha right now. i lived in Chicago for 7 years, and we just moved here...and I get a lot of flack from my friends about how I am in the boonies, etc.... So, I can be quick to defend the state I mean sure there are areas where finding gluten-free would be difficult... -
ARCHIVED Door County, Wisconsin
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
actually as I said I have been to Door County before and it is anything but the stereotypical beer, brat and cheese place. It is much classier than that Think the 'cape cod of the Midwest', many nice restaurants and local food. Not a fast food place or chain in site. Honestly, I gave had much gluten-free success here in Wisconsin, including an amazing... -
In a couple of weeks we are going to Door County for a few days. I have been there the past few years, but that was before being gluten-free. Any restaurant suggestions? One thing that depresses me is that my favorite thing about Door County is the cherry pie and all the homemade pastries..and I am going to have to miss out on those from now on. ...

I am so stuck in this decision..to try again, or stop. I know no one can give me an answer, but I would love to hear from people with similar issues. My daughter is now 4, and I would really love to have another. However, I am terrified. My pregnancy was picture-perfect until week 36 when I developed horrible, intense back pain...long story short.....

hmm...so how do I know if my DGL and probiotics are "high quality"? I thought DGL had to be chewed so that it mixes with saliva? also, I have looked everywhere for mastic gum, and cannot find it. even my local HFS looked at me like i was asking for chewing gum...though maybe i just wasn't talking to the sharpest tool in the shed but generally where...

So, if lots of people have h.pylori, is it that sometimes it is active, and other times it lays dormant? I totally felt like mine had gone away for 2 months, until I went to this wedding, and had lots of things with tomato in it, which I am sure did not help, being that it is acidic. I think I will eat mellow foods for a few days and see how it feels...
