ARCHIVED Do We Have Compromised Immune Systems?
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess I should reword this, I was just using the flu shot as an example. i just mean, that by having celiac, does it mean that we generally have weaker immune systems to fight things off? Or if we stick to the gluten-free way of life, we are just like every other regular person? -
ARCHIVED Do We Have Compromised Immune Systems?
foodiegurl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
For example, when "they" say people with compromised immune systems should get the flu shot...does that include us? I always decline the flu shot, as I prefer the least amount of anything unnatural going into my body as possible, especially meds. But will I have to get it now, if my immune system is compromised? Just curious, Thanks!! Anne -
I am by no means an expert, as I am new to this, but I have been using Purell alcohol hand wash. even though, I am not crazy about using it, but I figure it will kill germs. I also have a non-alcohol, organic hand spray i bought at Whole Foods a while ago, called Clean Well, by Ingenium. i usually use these on my daughter (not celiac) and myself after...

ARCHIVED Constipation, Irregular Periods And Celiac
foodiegurl replied to Lisa79's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello!! I had no idea I had Celiac, until the Dr suggested testing me. My only symptom that I can think back on is bad constipation and gas. I have had it all my life, but I think it got worse after I had my daughter 4 years ago. I will say, that since going gluten-free, 2 weeks ago, I have been more regular. Until I took some pepto one night last... -
I could have written the same thing, except I only have one child. I found out in February, and have been gluten-free for 2 weeks now, and it has been tough, and yes, all-consuming my thoughts. Now, I find myself stressing about a wedding we are supposed to go to out-of-town in May, and how am I going to handle eating on the road, etc... I am sad that...

On top of just being diagnosed with Celiac, I have h.pylori. Well, that was what they were testing for, the Celiac was a bonus My Dr wants to treat it with the full meds..2 antibiotics 7 times a day for 2 weeks, plus pepto, plus omeprazole..so 14 pills a day total. For someone who HATES taking meds at all. I am allergic to three antibiotics, so...

ARCHIVED Food Poisoning Or Glutened?
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also wanted to add, I have an avocado allergy..I get an itchy ear and mouth, and was tested last year which confirmed it. Last night, there was avocado, but not in my salad, and they said they cut it after they made my salad..but i have never had tummy issues before from any certain food. it was horrible. today, my stomach is much better, still a bit... -
I am not sure what happened to me last night, but I felt like complete crapola! I have been gluten-free for a week yesterday, as far as I know though I would not doubt if i had some unintentional gluten this past week by mistake. Anyway, these next few days and last night, we are staying at a friend's, because we are getting our floors redone, and have...

Sounds like a great idea. I also have a wish that we would be able to take a pill to neutralize gluten so that if we do accidentally get some, we will be OK.

ARCHIVED For Those Who Were Diagnosed After Having A Baby..
foodiegurl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know a trauma can bring out Celiac, such as a pregnancy, surgery, etc... I had a pretty traumatic end-of-pregnancy. I developed severe pre-eclampsia and HELLP, and had an emergency c-section. That was 4 years ago, and I was just diagnosed 2 weeks ago. I think I may have noticed some tummy issues like 2 years ago, but otherwise, this comes as a total... -

ARCHIVED Today Was My Last Day, And Now gluten-free!
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yes, there are 3 of us. As of now, I am "allowing" my husband to have his regular cereal, and bread to make sandwiches, but that may stop, we will see how it goes. The cereal, will most likely stay. I bought my pots and pans about 2 years ago, and I bought nice ones, since I love cooking. Thankfully, they are in good condition, so I will not replace... -
ARCHIVED Today Was My Last Day, And Now gluten-free!
foodiegurl posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I said I wasn't going to go gluten-free until after my daughter's bday party. Well, that was today. I have been generally gluten-free (since diagnosis 2 weeks ago) until yesterday when I was baking her cake, and wow, was it yummy. I made it from scratch, it was a really yummy recipe. And that was my last hoorah! After the party, I gave away all my... -

Hi FarmCat..i just sent you a message =) I am actually going to go check out that store next week sometime, thanks for the link. ARCHIVED Why Did A Cookie (non-gluten-free) Make Me Feel Better?
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ok, well today, 3 days later. my stomach is feeling pretty awful, and I am so unbelievably constipated...so maybe this is from the cookies? i have not had anything with gluten since. Ugh, not fun. -
ARCHIVED Hi, New Here And Not Sure Where To Introduce Myself.
foodiegurl replied to Yasmine's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yasmine, Welcome. I am new to this too. Well, really this Sunday is my last day, and then I will be 100% gluten-free. I found out 2 weeks ago by bloodwork. Did you have a biopsy? I declined it so far .. I am too chicken. I decided I wanted to wait until after my daughter's bday party, and that is this Sunday, and her cake will be the last wheat thing... -

ARCHIVED Pre-eclampsia & Celiac
foodiegurl replied to foodiegurl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Nicole, i am in the same boat. I have already gotten info on Chinese adoption, but have to start the paperwork. I would love to hear about your experience. How long ago did you submit paperwork? Also, did you have to tell them you have Celiac...I know they want to know some very detailed medical info from the parents. So, i wonder..if we don't get the... -
I also drink Kiefer everyday, you don't think that taking a probiotic, plus a glass of Kiefer a day would be overkill, do you? interesting to know about that specific bacteria. off to check my yogurt now.
