  1. I know this is probably WAY too late to help you, but we just planned our trip, and when I emailed the condos we're staying at, this is the response I got. Hope it helps anyone looking! From Michael Ramey, the Executive Chef at SeaPines Resort: "We offer gluten free options at 2 of our restaurants during dinner, the Harbourtown grill (843) 363-8380...
  2. Going to Nashville in July for a Henry Rollins show. I want to have a nice dinner beforehand, but I do NOT want to have to dress to the nines to eat Can anyone recommend a good Celiac-friendly restaurant downtown near the main strip (I'm staying at the Doubletree hotel if that helps with location)? Thanks!
  3. Thank you all *so* much for the replies! It's good to know I'm not totally crazy, and that other people have experienced this, too. So...next question...anyone have a good, simple recipe for pizza sauce?
  4. I realized after a few tries that eating pasta sauce (several different brands, all gluten-free) causes massive stomach upset for me, as do canned tomatoes. However...I can eat salsa and even raw tomatoes without a single problem. I cannot for the life of me figure out why one kind of tomato-based product would cause issues, when the base ingredient...
  5. Same for me. Anemia during pregnancy, then hypothyroid and severe gluten intolerance after I gave birth.
  6. Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know how it works for you! It sounds like you and I have similar reactions to gluten, and I'd been thinking since I "only" have gluten intolerance I could use it to eat gluten once in awhile, to help side-step the intolerance, but it doesn't sound like it's worth it (I was thinking of it as Lactaid...doesn't sound...
  7. Do you know if it's helped in a specific case of cross-contamination? If so, do you normally just get stomachache-type symptoms with CC or do you also get neurological? Did it just "ease" your symptoms, or did it keep you from getting sick all together?
  8. Yes, I'm specifically talking about GlutenEase and/or Peptizyde
  9. I tested negative (blood and gene) for Celiac, but I definitely have gluten intolerance. I've been gluten free for a year now and am doing 100% better. I've been seeing and hearing about gluten enzymes, and I know they can't be used in the case of true Celiac patients, but has anyone ever used them as with non-Celiac gluten intolerance? I don't get stomach...
  10. What was your experience?
  11. One more idea for you. After going gluten-free I found out that cheese...yes, CHEESE...gives me insomnia. I have no idea why, and I can't find any literature on it, but if I eat cheese I don't sleep. Best of luck figuring your stuff out. You're getting lots of good ideas here!
  12. Wrote the company today and received this response: Just FYI
  13. *Definitely* get your thyroid checked. It could be a vitamin deficiency, but it sounds more thyroid-related to me.
  14. Just wanted to ask - are you only eating gluten by itself when you're getting sick (i.e. a plain piece of bread), or are you seeing links to things like pizzas, pasta, etc.? The reason I ask is that after going gluten-free I still had problems, and I ended up narrowing it down to dairy products. So if you're eating a pizza and having symptoms, maybe it...
  15. Just wanted to offer a possibility for you to look into... Small intestine bacterial infections (SIBO). My husband has had this before (once was from a stomach flu and once was from taking a round of antibiotics for a sinus infection). If you're not familiar with SIBO, Open Original Shared Link. It can cause symptoms similar to Celiac (bloating, diarrhea...
  16. Unfortunately, yeah, it does matter. If you need/want to get tested, you'll have to go back to eating the gluten (major controversy on this...read some of the threads about doctors who make their patients go back on gluten before testing). Some people immediately feel better when they go gluten-free, for others it takes a longer amount of time. For...
  17. I wonder about printing out some kind of info that specifically says gluten challenges need to last at least a month to be effective? Only you would know whether or not something like that would offend him (hopefully it wouldn't...open-minded doctors are awesome!). Don't know if you even need to bother at this point, though - you should be done with the...
  18. Just a heads up - going gluten-free before you get tested will effect the test. The docs can't test for antibodies if you've been off gluten for any amount of time. I'm pretty sure you can get tested for Celiac other places than a GI doc, so if there is a long wait for your GI doc, you can always try your GP. Or just call your GI and tell him you...
  19. I tried them, and they gave me a stomach ache. Not sure what it is about Rice Dream products, but I can't tolerate them at all. I switched to another brand of rice milk and am continuing to look for good chocolate, although the further I get into the whole gluten-free diet, the less I want the sugar. So weird
  20. Went through this with my GI doc, too. I'd only been gluten-free for two weeks, then was told to go back on. I lasted 3 days before I told him "no more". The blood tests did NOT come back showing gluten antibodies, and even the GI said I would have had to been eating gluten for at least a month. Take care of yourself. I know it sucks
  21. Everyone is giving helpful advice; I just wanted to add my 2cents. The first few weeks of being gluten-free are hard. There's SO much to learn! Read as much as you can, ask a lot of questions, and take your time getting to know your new diet. After the first few weeks you'll hit a point where it's not so tough, and by the time you're around six months...
  22. So you basically just asked for the tests you wanted from a naturopath? I might have to look one up and see who we have in town. My issue is that I was never formally diagnosed with Celiac because I'd already been off gluten for three weeks when I finally saw the GI doctor (didn't know at the time you're supposed to wait to go gluten-free). Being...
  23. So funny that you just posted this, because I just wrote them two days ago about gluten Just FYI for everyone - their Oil-Free Sun Block is gluten-free.
  24. Does anyone know of any OTC-type tests that can done for vitamin deficiencies, or are those types of tests only available through doctors? How about nutritionists? Thanks in advance
  25. Been there. After going gluten-free for several months some other food issues popped up that I'd never noticed before, probably because I was always sick from the gluten. For me I had to cut out almonds, soy, dairy, and now...EGGS. I can handle them in recipes (small amounts), but if I cook one to eat as part of a meal I get gas and bloating. You might...
