THANK YOU SO MUCH -
Hi Does anyone know of any pre-packed gluten free deli meats in Toronto (Canada)? A few months ago I sent emails to some companies to see if I could get a list, but I haven't heard anything and I"m getting impatient. Even better -- if you live in Toronto and know of where I can get them, please tell me Thanks much K-Dawg

ARCHIVED Help Please, Please, On Biopsy Prep
K-Dawg replied to Ivy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
GottaSki makes a good point -- if it was the nurse or the receptionist who provided you with misinformation, it may just be that s/he relayed the information incorrectly. Perhaps it is worth following up with the physician directly -

ARCHIVED Irrational Anxiety Issues
K-Dawg replied to Jamesheff's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This discussion is interesting to me. I first noticed that I had a very rapid heart rate when I was about 15 years old. A few years after that I was diagnosed with graves disease and the fast heart rate was supposedly explained by that diagnosis (but it reamined fast even when I was in remission and now that I'm in my 30's the dr's are more concerned about... -
ARCHIVED Digestive Enzyme - Canada - Should I?
K-Dawg posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hi I've seen several posts wherein people mention digestive enzymes. I was diagnosed in April 2009 -- have eliminated gluten from my diet, but haven't done much else. Wondering if digestive enzymes are helpful. If so, when and why? Do people just use them when dealing with an accidental glutening or on a daily basis? Also. PLEASE indicate a gluten... -
ARCHIVED Help Please, Please, On Biopsy Prep
K-Dawg replied to Ivy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi Ivy I am a newbie at this stuff, but my liver specialist advised me in April 2009 that the results of a biopsy of my small intestine during an endoscopy would not be reliable wrt a celiac diagnosis UNLESS I was ingesting gluten. I believe this is probably because if you are not eating gluten then there will be no tell-tale damage to the villi... -
lol Gemini -- I also dress well when I fly -- same reason: I get better service. But I usually do business casual. And when it comes to the proverbial power suit at the doctors.....sometimes I just feel to ill to bother (but I still ALWAYS do). I'm in a sort of traditional profession (at least as far as attire goes) and clients expect me to look a certain...

I'm sorry you had such a terrible experience. Yes, I have been treated HORRIBLY by doctors. SO much so that when I go now I always dress in one of my work uniforms (i.e. the power suit) and I do get treated MUCH better. So I wonder if, in my case, there has been some class bias operating (maybe jeans signal that I"m on the wrong side of some supposed class...

ARCHIVED Help - Gluten Free Broths? (canada)
K-Dawg replied to K-Dawg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
ha ha - hey Neighbour! thanks so much for the information -- I am absolutely going to the grocery store to check out the Bovril and knorr items you mention. I was not aware that Unilever clearly lists gluten (as does Con Agra, I believe). I would LOVE it if you list off some stores that carry gluten free speciality items. Since I'm living in North... -
Agreed. I have Graves disease and Hashimoto's. The thyroid panel and antibody tests are key. Any decent endo will automatically run these tests and will ususally also order a liver panel (ALT, ALP, AST). Mine also regularly does a CBC and differential (due to the effect of the meds I take for graves disease) as well as creatinine and electrolytes (both...

ARCHIVED Help - Gluten Free Broths? (canada)
K-Dawg posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
hey Can anyone help me out...I"m trying to find some gluten free broth because I'm sick of making it from scratch. I know that campbell's lists their vegetable broth as a Canadian product with no added gluten. I am also aware of the glutino gluten-free soup bases. I am not able to have either of these products due to some other allergies and I would... -
Hey Im Yah, I hear ya and I don't really know. I mean, I would not say with certainty that it wasn't psychosomatic...but I'm pretty rational and fully expected to be fine. Like you, I also eat mainstream products with no gluten added, but that are not certified gluten free (e.g. I eat some corn tortillas from a local grocery store, certain corn chips...

Hey -- thought I'd chime in. I am fairly new to celiac disease (diagnosed in April 2009) and have been VERY rigid wrt gluten. Consequently, since day 1 I decided to only drink potato vodka and stuck with it until a cuople days ago. (btw - I have always been a vodka lover so it hasn't been so bad drinking only vodka and I've no interest in beer, gluten-free...

ARCHIVED Vacay To Nyc = A gluten-free Success
K-Dawg posted a topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Heeey all: I want to thank those of you who posted to a previous query of mine regarding where to eat/dine/buy gluten-free groceries in Manhattan AND I want to report that the vacation was a gluten-free and allergy success. First, there are sooo many whole foods (unlike Toronto where there is only 1) and there were a TON of restaurants with gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Unemployed Or Divorced Because Of Celiac?
K-Dawg replied to mrmachinist's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
A lot of what people have been writing really hit home with me. I have managed to find success in my career but at such a huge sacrifice to my personal life. I am married and my husband is great, but I had to fight so hard every single freaking day just to make it through. I had undetectable iron levels for months, I've been sick for 10 years.....always... -
ARCHIVED Dreams Of Not Being Able To Eat Anything
K-Dawg replied to DesertGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hey you: I also have what I call my "celiac dreams" I sometimes dream of myself grocery shopping (never dreamt about this before). I have also dreamt about people and family members inviting me over and purposely gluttening me (I have great friends/family so I have NO idea why I'd be dreaming this). And generally, I dream about food. Sometimes... -
I vote for lettuce wraps. I do the lettuce wrap lunch ALL THE TIME. I love to fill them with sauteed veggies or hardboiled eggs, egg salad, deli meat, chicken breast, tuna, etc etc. I make a few hard boiled eggs at a time, that way I can just pop them in my mouth each morning or quickly make egg salad. As mentioned already, ice berg lettuce doesn't wrap...

mmmm. Polenta french fries! I will try this for sure. Ranger, you're ideas sound very good (THX) and I love the breakfast one (with mapel syrup and sausage). Are you slicing it up into strips or using some other form of polenta (not found in a tube)? Also, what is soft polenta? lol. I"m such a polenta newbie.
