  1. My doc suggested biotin - my hair was falling out by the handfuls. I've only been using biotin for a few weeks and see less falling out, but still shedding. Think I might give selenium a try too. aa
  2. I use Nutiva's Hemp Seed - nutiva.com, though I've been told that there is another brand out there that is better tasting. Health food stores sell it, including Harry's/Whole Foods. Interestingly, it can not be grown or manufactured in the U.S. and the FDA has strongly recommended retailers not to carry it. Go figure, something that is good for you...
  3. I use digestive enzymes - Tropical Papaya by Country Life after I eat and Wholezyme by Whole Foods 2x's a day. I have tried using Garden of Life's Primal Defense (probiotics) but it is still too soon for me. The enzymes have been great! Alicia
  4. Prior to my celiac disease diagnosis I ate a "food combining" diet because I had less pain and bloating. Since I no longer eat meat (except gluten-free turkey 1x a year), I don't think of it as much (I'm allergic to most proteins as it is). But I did find it very beneficial in maintaining my "ibs symptoms" as well as my weight.
  5. I've had to be very persistant (with a smile on my face of course) with the Whole Foods in Atlanta GA as well as Harry's in Duluth GA in ordering products, but eventually they do. They also carry the gluten-free bakery goods there - unfortunately I can't eat them due to allergies . I have found that if I can speak to the person that orders for whichever...
  6. I am allergic (tested positive) to soy - if I ingest any, my asthma kicks in. The only thing to do is read labels. I do know that some manufacturers have lists of their products specifying gluten-free or soy free etc. Annies Naturals, Hain, Michaels Seasons, Seeds of Change, come to mind. I haven't checked any mainstream products because I am usually...
  7. If they specialize in celiac disease then it would be worth 1 visit anyway!
  8. I play soccer too, and usually eat a protein bar (nutiva hempseed) 1 hour before my game - and I take gluten-free taurine- country life (used drink it in energy drinks) at the same time. You don't get any kind of "rush" but I find that I do have the stamina it takes to play the game. My energy level is not back either, although better so I understand your...
  9. There are lots of additives in processed/prepared foods that we stop eating. Once our bodies adjust to more healthy foods that we can actually taste - they taste good. I also believe that our bodies crave things it needs (we might not feed it the right things however). I got on an organic olive binge - rather pricey. Then I read quite by accident that...
  10. I use Wholezyme found at Whole Foods and Tropical Papaya (Country Life) also found @ Whole Foods - don't know what I'd do w/o that store! Alicia

    ARCHIVED Homeopathic Remedy

My doc is an md and holistic doc too! Of all the drs I've been too she has been the best. She sits down and LISTENS to me. We discuss all sorts of ideas and then she gets me her research/notes etc. with treatments to try. Hers have worked the best. I always leave in an uplifted mood and ready to tackle the issues of my health. When you find a good one...
  12. This seems to be the norm - I couldn't wait to see my dietitian (waited a month) - because I have allergies to most other proteins as well. She had my food journal and food allergy list a week before I went to see her. In the end, she actually told me that I knew more than she did about celiac. And I requested a dietitian with celiac knowledge - ha! The...
  13. I take them - to me they help alleviate a lot of the bloating, gas and reflux. My primary physician is an md and holistic doc too. I take a "multi" enzyme 2x's a day and keep tropical papaya tablets (all are allergen/gluten free) for meal/snack times if necessary. The older we get the less enzymes are bodies produce - and I'd much rather take these. Hope...
  14. Hey Jules in Georgia! Where in GA are you? I'm in Lilburn - my doc handed me some info on a support group yesterday....if you're close enough, that might help! At least you were only crying: I simply lost my mind on the soccer field when an opposing player kept on banging (has a bit of impact on my arthritis) into me on purpose when there was no ball...
  15. I found in talking to a mexican restaurant owner that "flour" is all over their kitchen. This is a place I've hung out with friends for years and can bring in my own food. I ordered a specific beverage from their bar which is not in the kitchen - next day had all nasty symptoms - owner's daughter fixed it for me. Next time I went with my friends, had the...

    ARCHIVED Coeliac And Sport

I am newly diagnosed celiac disease and allergic to most proteins - so far have found Nutiva's Shelled Hemp (different species) Seed gluten-free products not to bother me. I was and am back to playing soccer and working out in the gym - I'm not back to the top of my game yet, but I am working on it. Nutiva.com is the website. Anybody find an gluten-free...
  17. Thanks to all for the help - a note on the Rice Dream, I've read that it is not considered gluten free due to it's processing (with oat I think), I used to drink it. I recently found "hemp seed" by Nutiva for protein - it is not from the illegal plant, so as long as I can get it - I'm using it. Alicia
  18. I, too have been recently diagnosed with celiac. Not very surprising since I'm allergic to most proteins anyway. I still have to wait 3 more weeks to meet with a dietitian. Any advice to someone who is allergic to corn, soy, beans, shellfish, fish, chicken, nuts, chocolate, some fruits/veggies, eggs and dairy, etc.? (I don't eat meat, but do eat...
