aaascr replied to jams's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I contacted them awhile ago and the larger (original) peppermint ones are gluten-free. -
I too, exercise everyday and have multiple food allergies along with celiac disease. What I have found so far: Blue Sky's Blue Energy is gluten-free for an energy drink. I use a sublingual B complex - B Total made by Neutraceutical Solutions - also gluten-free, this helps me from "crashing" which was a problem when I returned to my routine. The only...

Are you getting enough protein in your diet? Dry hair - nails etc. is a lack of kerotin(sp?) If you aren't absorbing enough protein - this could one possibility.

In addition to the gastro issues - I get an asthmatic reaction from soy- I'm really allergic and have to check labels for soy that is not so clearly listed. It can definitely fatigue one!

It is one of my most annoying pet peeves! I have always had a flat stomach - and now even with lots of daily exercise and being exceptionally careful with my food, health/skin products and surroundings, I still have a bloated stomach. It is not as bad as it once was - but it is not flat the way it used to be!

aaascr replied to AnnieMarie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Straight from the source: Thank you for contacting Burt's Bees. The Quality Resources Department Manager has put together a list of products that are "restricted" and should be avoided by Celiac and Gluten patients. Thanks Michelle! Food allergies are: nuts, beans, soy, chicken, fish, beef, dairy(all inclusive proteins), eggs, bananas, apples, oranges, yeast, corn, oats and chocolate. Right now I'm able to digest Hemp seed but quinoa is starting to give me "issues". I have found Nutiva's Hemp Seed Bar - sometimes I can eat them - sometimes not. ...

Thanks for listing the ingredients! Almost, but no cigars for me - I'm allergic to nuts and beans, as well as all the others mentioned (except sesame) - I think making my own is probably the way to go for me.

You might want to see if you're getting enough potassium in your diet - as well as other nutrients, keeping in mind that you may not be absorbing enough even if you are ingesting it. Potassium will help eliminate the cramps. I had the sit-down and cry cramps at first, I kept a vitamin/potassium-rich drink with me to help out.

ARCHIVED Have You Noticed Food Label Ingredients Changing?
aaascr replied to westiepaws's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I guess this is why Whole Foods supplement labels are changing: They used to list the allergen free items. Now it reads that their products are made in a facility where allergens are present. Looks like I'll be switching brands.... -

ARCHIVED Wine
aaascr replied to UIDancer's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I drink organic wines (they usually don't add sulfites) VidaOrganics - Malbec Rose - is on the sweeter side. -
My doc (holistic) recommended distilled aloe vera juice for my reflux - did the trick - you have to start off in small amounts though, can act like a laxative, something we don't need!

I'll be bringing food and will have a refrigerator and microwave in my room. But - any suggestions on health food store? And maybe an evening place to hang out at (older crowd)? We're staying at Carolina Beach but will be exploring around after our games are done. This is my first time traveling gluten-free. Thanks for any info.

Though they are sometimes hard to find: Sunshine Burgers - the organic and regular burgers are soy and gluten free. They taste good too. I have had to request that Whole Foods and Harry's (atlanta ga) order them for me. When I can't get them I make Quinoa Burgers. Basic mix: Cooked Quinoa Quinoa flour egg replacer (ener g) mushroom onion fresh...

Whole Foods has a Gluten-free shopping list: They list their veggie chips on it, though I don't know how updated it is.

Michelle, I eat a mostly vegan and organic diet, due more to allergies than anything. Since beans and nuts are out for me, my protein intake consists of quinoa, brown rice, sunflower/flax/shelled hemp seeds in various forms. Initially, I didn't think I needed a whole lot of protein either. Particularly since I'm late 40's age group. But....., I do...

ARCHIVED Does Celiac And Food Intolerances Go Hand In Hand?
aaascr replied to SabrinaLuvsGluten's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was diagnosed with food allergies (but not wheat) 20 years ago, celiac only 6 months ago. I think your genetic make-up detemines the outcome. -
ARCHIVED Cat Scan
aaascr replied to bklyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was supposed to have ct scans with contrast (checking gall bladder etc). Because the testing center was not a hospital-type facility where they could handle an allergic reaction efficiently, I chose not to have the contrast nor did the technician feel comfortable about doing it. In GA they ask you if you have allergies on the paperwork. However, no... -
ARCHIVED My Mom Needs Help Fast!
aaascr replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh my.. Thankfully, your mom has a daughter as tenacious as her mom. I don't know about home health care and iv's - but don't give up until you get your mom situated. Maybe there's someone on this board from her area that can recommend a better doctor. As far as what your mom is ingesting, it is critical at this point that she gets no gluten in her...
