  1. I am back from Chicago...!! Had a wonderful time! LOVED eating at *Frankie's 5th Floor Pizzeria* - inside the Bloomingdale's shopping mall. They had a gluten free menu - YUM! We also ate at Wildfire's and loved it! Got sick from various other places... but the terrible sickness held off until I returned home! Such is life - it was all worth the getting...
  2. Hello all! It has been a while since I have been able to check in. I am so psyched for those of you who have managed to quit... and for those of you who are trying - do not get discouraged. It is said that quitting smoking is harder than quitting heroin or something horrible like that! YIKES! Stress can be a #1 trigger, and lord knows all of my accidentally...
  3. I was just reading through some threads about quitting smoking on here! It is the hardest thing ever! I quit cold turkey in 2002, and found out less than a month later I was pregnant (like an hour pregnant - LOL) with my daughter. I did not smoke again after she was born. Fast forward two years later, my son is born and after he turned about 7 months...
  4. I have JUST been diagnosed several weeks ago, after suffering for close to my entire life (35 years, almost). HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGS ... I could have written your post, and more. I am at my rope with the ignorance and insensitivity with coping with the challenges of this disease - I COULD SCREAM. I sure hope you get through this glutening as soon...
  5. Thank you for your thoughts. I will take those into consideration while I am navigating my way through this difficult time in life. I will be sure to be more sensible about my frustrations with the lack of support I am finding in the state I live in. Celiacs suffer from many other intolerances (other than just GLUTEN). The support group for CELIACS...
  6. Thanks, everyone! I totally agree! I am learning so much each day... today, I got to call make-up manufacturers to see how much money I will spend replacing all of my expensive beauty care crap///// that of course, ALLLLL has gluten! The fun never ends! I just purchased (and received) a product called Miracle Noodles. I found the ad on this website...
  7. No advice here... BUT, I sure hope you get some relief and peace - SOON!
  8. You know, I was in COSTCO when I called them! I wont buy anything I am unsure of, so to be safe, I called. They assured me they were gluten free and such. I was researching this online, and found some other celiacs who got sick from them, and some woman (or man - not sure) posted this thing about the tannins, etc. If it is not the gluten... I was assuming...
  9. As if it is not bed enough that I am unable to consume gluten, casein, soy, eggs and honey... I am awaiting further blood work to find out the rest. I had been doing really well with my scalp DH (since beginning my elimination diet) and have been gluten and everything else free for two weeks (this is week three). Last night was day two of the worst breakout...
  10. Hi! I am in TN. The armpit of the south! LOL.... was relocated for husband's career - from South Florida! I actually marched back into the HARVARD trained dermatologist I was seeing here - AFTER my Celiac biopsy and follow up bloodtests came back SCREAMING CELIAC... and DEMANDED he biopsy the scabby things... on my scalp. One way to tell if it is DH....
  11. I was diagnosed 7/10/09 with Celiac. Almost immediately after, I got confirming biopsy for dh on my scalp, back and forehead. The back and forehead had JUST started, and thankfully - and is going away, FAST! I can't remember in the last 15-20 years, or more, when I was not trying to control a *psoriasis* outbreak on my scalp. Special shampoos, creams...
  12. THANKS!!!!!!!!! Weber Grill it will definitely e.. probably more than once! I am casein intolerant as well - so a nice baked potato should do the trick (although mashed potatoes sound yummy)!!! I will fill you in if I find anything else.. I did go out for the FIRST time today, since my elimination began. I went to a local mom an pop cafe. They...
  13. I like the Lara Bars. Apple Pie, Cherry Pie and Cashew Cookie... I tasted the Lemon and that is good too! I got VIOLENTLY sick from the Key Lime and The Chocolate Coconut (both of which contain raw coconut). I am pretty sure it was the coconut that did me in. I have SOOOOO many allergies and intolerances that these are a welcome on the go treat. Most...
  14. I am going to Chicago for 4 days in October.... Anyone have some good dining recommendations for non fast food - gluten free dining?! Thanks!
  15. How in the world did my initial lab work come back negative???? I just picked up a copy of my lab results, still waiting on one result, but here is the lab results so far and biopsy results: IgA: 58 (ref range: 19 units or less - neg 20-30 units: week positive 30 units or greater...
  16. I am right there with you... I am on the beginning of week two elimination. My results are no gluten, casein, soy, eggs or honey. I ask - what the heck am I to eat. I am OVER fruit and OVER salad... and this is far more frustrating and overwhelming than I ever could have dreamed up. I keep one goal in sight.... soon, and not to far in the distant future...
  17. Sorry to hijack this thread.. LOL Deb, I am a new member and do not yet have enough posts to message you. I noticed that your husband can't tolerate many of the additional things I can't. The dietitians in my state we currently live in (TN) are almost completely UNFAMILIAR with Celiac, and I can't consume (besides wheat), casein, (lactose as well)...
  18. That sounds exactly like what my response has been. Most of my close friends are really supportive and want to learn as much as possible... some of my less educated acquaintances can go for a loooong walk on a short pier. I am too busy trying to get well, and simply have little time to educate STUPID people!
  19. Jason, sorry for what you are dealing with. I was JUST diagnosed a week and a half ago with Celiac (positive biopsy). From my understanding, you do not need to return to eating gluten to have the endoscopy done! It might be worth looking into! I hope you get some relief soon.
  20. Here we go. I received a phone call from my little brother this evening (he is 31). He called, cheerfully, to inform me that his wife knows several people with Celiac disease and they don't have to cut anything out of their diet. She eats out with them, they eat bread, blah blah blah... and I am sure you have heard the rest. I started to explain to him...
  21. WOW! Thank you for the quick replies. I have already begun bookmarking websites, online shopping sites and when I return from vacation next week, I will be purchasing one or more of the recommended books! As far as symptoms, I have an endocrynologist, gastroenterologist, dermatologist, internist, gynocologist... I am SO SICK OF ologists. After being...
  22. I just received my biopsy results from my endoscopy and colonoscopy last Friday My gastro called today, and despite my initial blood work for gluten sensitivity being negative (which I was informed is almost falsely negative 80% of the time) my biopsy came back positive. I am now the proud owner of some Celiac Disease. I have been misdiagnosed for...
