ARCHIVED gluten-free And Still Have Problems? This Might Help/
Sulevismom posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi everyone, I've know about having celiac disease for almost a year now, and I'm one of those people for who a gluten free diet alone does not seem to work. I was constantly thinking I was getting 'gluttened' by my husband and my son's crumbs, or by some cosmetic that I had not checked. Frustrated, I dedicated a significant amount of time searching. What... -
ARCHIVED Serious Bowel Disfunction
Sulevismom replied to marycontrary's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I get the same problem. I wrote a post about it some time ago and received some suggestions. What has really worked for me is eating a couple spoonfuls of ground flax seeds daily. You have to make sure to drink plenty of water so that they don't make matters worse. My favorite way to eat them in in a smoothie with banana, strawberries, blueberries... -
Hi again, Thanks again for the advice on the thyroid testing. I got my TSH and T4 tested, and the results were 3.09 and 14, respectively. But then I went and got my T3V and TSH tested again and they were 1.4 and 3.4, respectively. I don't know what's going on with my TSH, and, according to the information I have, T3V should be between 3.5 and 6.5. I'm...

Thanks, Bea, for all those suggestions. I'll see if I can get some of those herbs from Helsinki. I'm working on limiting I eat beyond gluten-free. I have to admit, it's a bit hard for me, as I love food, and baking, and cooking. So far it seems that corn and rice flours are okay, but I'm not sure about potato. Actually, I do have a whole list going. As for...

By the way, did you also find it surprisingly easy to gain weight, I mean too much weight? For the amount of exercise I do, and how healthily I eat, I'm surprised at how heavy and out of shape I feel! This is another reason I suspect thyroid!
-
Thanks for the tip about the thyroid. I just have to find a doctor that will do as I say! :-). I live in Finland, so there's a language barrier in addition to general problems that most of us gastro-intestinal issue sufferers have. Hmmm, come to think of it, maybe I'll just go straight to the lab myself and pay for it myself. Just so that I can make sure...

Hello all, I'm one of the celiac sufferers who experiences constipation instead of diarrhea. Although I've been following a strict gluten-free diet, I do accidentally get glutened once in a while, as I'm still figuring out what else I'm sensitive to. A couple days ago, just after getting glutened the night before, I caught my son's stomach bug which...

Hi all, thanks for the support. Dairy seems to be fine with me, luckily. I'll try to find some carob (though, it's not as easy to find here in Europe). I do still have hope that I will find something that works for me. It's just quite disturbing every time I get a reaction!

Hi all. I've been gluten-free for the past 5 months, with accidents seeming to happen more frequently than I'd like. It seems that I get symptoms every time I eat chocolate. This discovery is very sad for me because I love chocolate. I've tried so so many different kinds, from many countries. Even those specifically labeled gluten free give me trouble...

ARCHIVED Coffee.. Anxiety?
Sulevismom replied to Blondie's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think I do, but it's a fine balance. I really enjoy the extra boost that I get from caffein and coffee in particular. I notice that I get testy in the morning after I drink coffee in the morning sometimes and that's when I cut back to about half of what I normally have. I normally have one or two shots of espresso in hot milk. One shot of expresso is equivalent... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Weight Gain And Thyroid
Sulevismom replied to Sulevismom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I had my thyroid tested, for hypo and hyper, but the results showed that I am completely normal. Maybe I just eat too much chocolate! -
ARCHIVED Gluten And Depression
Sulevismom replied to momxyz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi again, Well, I can only state what I can from my own experience. I've been gluten free for only 3 months, but there are several things that could be the cause of the bouts of depression that I get... but that said, my depressed feelings do coincide exactly with when I first started noticing celiac symptoms in November of last year. I often wonder if... -
I think I've always had some trouble with quinoa, which is too bad because I love the taste. Luckily for me the only seems to be that I simply do not digest it. It comes out looking exactly the same as it went in! But thanks for the info about it; I thought I was the only one who had trouble with it!

ARCHIVED Gluten And Depression
Sulevismom replied to momxyz's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm not going to reply to anything specific that you wrote because I think you're probably on the right track and that you will figure this out. I just wanted to say that from your looking into to this matter so thoroughly, it shows not only how much you care for your daughter (all of us parents care for and love their children!) but also your virtue of taking... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Weight Gain And Thyroid
Sulevismom replied to Sulevismom's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thanks for your responses! Jessica: Did you also experience weight gain as a result of thyroid issues? Maile: Good thing your doctor is finally listening to you. Good luck! -
Hi all, I've been gluten free now for almost 3 months (except for the unfortunate accidents), after having received inconclusive biopsy results and negative blood work. In September last year, I dropped about ten pounds very quickly, and then started having more noticable bloating, cramps, anxiety, depression, etc, (the typical celiac symptoms). What seems...

HI, I seem to have slightly less severe symptoms to gluten-free oats than to regular gluten. For awhile I was really enjoying this "gluten free" bread, but then one day I gorged on it because it tasted so good. An hour or so later, my belly was bloated and I had the tell-tale gas of a glutening. It might be that I can tolerate a little bit of it, but not...

ARCHIVED Chinese Medicine And Other Alternatives
Sulevismom posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello, I've been wondering what other people's experiences have been with alternative medicines. I saw my longtime Accupuncturist/Chinese medical doctor a couple months ago regarding my recent diagnosis with celiac disease. He was glad for me that I discovered the disease and took it very seriously, which was nice, since I wondered if he was going to... -
ARCHIVED Do You Become More Or Less Sensitive To Gluten Over Time?
Sulevismom replied to NYCCeliacMom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think this is a good question, since I've met other people with celiac disease who have had different experiences in this regard. But after thinking about it, experiencing it, and reading what experts seem to have to say I have come to this conclusion: The glutening symptoms get worse the longer you go without gluten. This is presumably because we... -
HI! Whenever I get glutened I wonder about what is really going on. How is it that damage to my intestines results in: bloating, cramps, joint pain, anxiety, fatigue, depression, head fog? So, what causes the bloating: is it some kind of chemical reaction which causes gas? If so, what kind of chemical reaction? My glutening gas has a particular...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Wheat Starch?
Sulevismom replied to Sulevismom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Okay, thanks, that got me to do some research. I live in Europe, so I am interested in the labeling issue. Apparently new labeling regulations have been created which require that any product that has up to 20 ppm of gluten can be labeled "gluten free". This is good, however, the regulation does not take effect until 2012!!! Until then, producers can label... -
Hi, I just recently came across some gluten-free products that include "gluten free" wheat starch. I resisted one of them to be on the safe side, but I ate another without knowing until afterwards. I had been glutened the day before, so I was already reacting, and I was unable to ascertain whether this caused me more problems. What has your experience...

ARCHIVED Diagnosed While Breast Feeding
Sulevismom replied to Sulevismom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Jana, I'm glad to hear you are feeling better! I have a question for you since you are also breast feeding: how do you feel when you eat fewer carbs? Or, do you eat fewer carbs? I'm just wondering because I've found that I feel totally wiped out if I don't get enough, but I'm basing that on only a couple experiences. Since then I 've been eating carbs... -
ARCHIVED When Does The Constant Hunger Go Away?
Sulevismom replied to River*'s topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
HI! I'm also glad to hear that constant hunger follows with the recovery from celiac disease. I'm breast feeding a one and a half year old, and I've read that I need carbs for fast energy to produce milk. When I first started the gluten-free diet, about 2.5 months ago, I didn't eat as many carbs, and I felt so famished and sick, spaced out and... -
Hi all, I am pretty new to the going gluten free. Have people had problems with Sensodyne toothpaste? I've switched to one that I know is gluten free, but I miss Sensodyne
