  1. I have been reading in the "Healthier Without Wheat" book by Dr. Wangen and it has given me a new direction to look. He says: "Gluten seems to be responsible for most reactions to wheat. It is also possible to have an allergic reaction to wheat without gluten being involved....With a non-gluten reaction to wheat, all gliadin, gluten and celiac testing...
  2. I didn't ask them but I am assuming that they just follow the reference ranges that are given by the lab.
  3. It sounds a lot like a gluten sensitivity to me. Many people who are given the diagnoses of "IBS" and "fibromyalgia" when they truly have a gluten intolerance. You could get the biopsy but it still might be negative. There are many members of this board who have had negative testing, including biopsies but have celiac or non-celiac gluten sensitivity. ...
  4. I don't know about those but there is also enterolab.
  5. I am seriously confused by some of my results. The more I have been researching things the more I think my blood tests may not be valid. I have heard that having a 0 on the tTG test seems suspicious, and that everyone pretty much has at least some tTG present if they sufficiently make IgA. My total IgA was 115, (normal range 68-378) My tTG was 0 (range...
  6. It could be celiac, or non-celiac gluten intolerance. There are a lot of people around here who have had negative test results for celiac but have a definite problem with gluten. I am surprised that your dr. didn't order a colonoscopy for the blood in the stool. You definitely sound like you have symtoms that fit with gluten problems. You might check...
  7. My total IgA was 115. The reference range from the lab was 68-378. My ttG was 0. I don't know if that means much but the lady I talked to at enterolab said that it was possible that I didn't produce huge amounts of IgA and that I could be intolerant to gluten and still never make enough of the IgA to produce a positive result. She also said that she had...
  8. How much IgA is "normal" then? My total IgA was 118. How do you know if you don't make "enough". What is enough?
  9. I just got back my test results from enterolab and I am shocked and really unsure about what to do. I was so sure I had a gluten problem. So here are my results: C) Egg, Yeast, and Soy Food Sensitivity Stool Panel Fecal Anti-ovalbumin (chicken egg) IgA: 2 Units Fecal Anti-saccharomyces cerevisiae (dietary yeast) IgA: 6 Units Fecal Anti-soy...
  10. Believe me, I feel your pain. I was just thinking of coming here and starting a similar thread. I was on a cruise all week last week and did great. I am only a month into the gluten-free diet and I had finally started feeling better. On the way home from the cruise I ate at taco bell. I made 2 great mistakes: 1. Eating at taco bell in the first place...
  11. I sleep with earplugs every night and i have a sleep mask (although I think one of my kids may have wandered off with it. I couldn't find it this morning after I woke up at 5:45. My main problem right now is that I wake up early every morning and I have a hard time getting back to sleep. I often wake up at 5:30 and I can't go back to sleep. I have to get...
  12. Yeah, the first couple of weeks are definitely hard. I think that your ups and downs are probably from the gluten withdrawal symptoms. (you can google it if you want to read more.) I also don't have a definitive diagnosis but after I read about celiac disease I knew that is what was wrong with me. If you don't want to say you have celiac when you don...
  13. Wow, it is a shock to be diagnosed with something that you probably never suspected. I am actually quite surprised that the doctors were so fast in diagnosing you. Like the others said, you were lucky to be diagnosed so quickly. You can get on top of things before you develop other symptoms and get sicker. On the other hand, you certainly aren't lucky...
  14. A lot of people have found www.enterolab.com to be helpful for determining food intolerances. You don't have to go through a gluten trial.
  15. The gluten free diet is a HUGE change! We all understand how hard it is. I have been doing it for 4 weeks and it is definitely getting easier. I'd say that you should eat 1 day at a time and try not to worry about the long haul. My depression and anxiety has been getting better and better since I started eating gluten-free. At first I noticed more anxiety...
  16. I had my b12 tested in January and it was fine (back then). I have been taking some sublingual b12 supplements though. I have been waking up with night sweats the last couple of nights. I don't know what that is all about. I am 33 so it shouldnt' be menopause. I know my hormones are whacked though.
  17. I live in Utah too. If anyone wants a Utah buddy, pm me!
  18. Welcome to this great place. It is the best place to find other people who understand and have experience. First of all, it must be a relief to finally know what is wrong with you. And no, you aren 't crazy. All those doctors are though for not figuring out what was going on a long time ago. I haven't been here long but I have gotten a lot of support...
  19. I cut out caffeine about 6 months ago so it isn't that.
  20. Here's a recipe for BBQ sauce from a friend's food blog Open Original Shared Link They also have a bunch of great sauce and salad dressing recipes.
  21. Yeah, I know I shouldn't take it personally, but it was kind of just the moment where I was happy and proud of the muffins I had made and it kind of burst my bubble and reminded me that I am "different" now. It was sort of frustrating too because she has talked and talked and talked to me about a problem she has been having for the last few months and I...
  22. Holy cow. What do you people eat?
  23. I agree with the pp who said that many of us feel your pain. Friends and family and many doctors don't believe us or understand. You have found a great board where there are many, many people who have been in your position and we definitely understand. And like the pp said, listen to your body. The doctors don't know YOUR body. If you feel better...
  24. Oooh, this has been a very interesting thread. Roda, I had an expereince today that made me feel just like you felt. A good friend of mine came over today and I handed her a bag of some spice mixes and sauces. I told her they had wheat in them and that I couldn't eat them. She looked at me and said, "so you're really going to do this?" I told her,...
  25. Have you considered (or heard of) the gluten testing offered by enterolab.com? They don't diagnose celiac per se, but they can tell you if your baby has gluten intolerance. I would suspect though if you have it, and if she is symptomatic, it would be worth it to give the gluten-free diet a chance. I think I'd do that and see if you see improvement. ...
