I will be wanting to pick up some Amy's frozen entree's and yogurt while I am vacationing in the area. The last time I did this I tried to wing it and I didn't have much luck! Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks!

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Universal Studios Orlando?
nothungry replied to skurtz's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I am planning a trip to Universal myself but I am having trouble getting information. I've posted on a few boards but haven't had many replies. I called guest services at Universal, they said to call one day in advance and they would accomodate special needs. I know that Disney World deals with these issues quite well. -
Hi Kim...I am a member of the St. Peter's Support Group. I unfortunately do not go to meetings very often. Everyone is really great there. They have a lot of information about every aspect of Celiac Disease. They always have yummy foods to try and lots of samples. It's definitely worth the trip! use Doctor Samuels in Albany as my GI and Vanessa Denning...

ARCHIVED Genetic Testing
nothungry replied to nothungry's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the information. I tried to call my insurance company. They said that my doctor has to call their resource coordination department and convince them that my kids are at high risk, then they will consider paying for it. How did your insurance company handle it? -

ARCHIVED Genetic Testing

I want to have my children genetically tested for celiac disease. I don't really know the first thing about it and I would appreciate any information anybody has to offer me...Is this done in a doctor's office, a laboratory or with a home kit? How do I go about finding out of my insurance company will pay for it? Has anybody else had their insurance company... -
I see that you are in NYC Mookie. Just north of Poughkeepsie in Tivoli there is an absolutely fabulous mexican restaurant, Santa Fe, that is part of the gluten free awareness program. It is a four star restaurant and almost their entire menu is gluten free. So, if you feel like taking a short drive upstate there is yummy mexican available.

Disney World is the best place to go on vacation!!! Even the value resorts are completely stocked with gluten free foods (pizza, pancakes, macaroni and cheese). There is gluten free food available at all table service restaurants and even the counter service restaurants have gluten-free pizza and information on all allergens. Most sit down restaurants...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Breads
nothungry replied to nothungry's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the info! Are there any baking cookbooks that are essential? I love the gluten free pantry mixes but they are too pricey if I am using them on a regular basis. Do you order bulk baking products from somewhere (like xanthum gum and tapioca starch)? -
Our family is planning a trip to Orlando. We are spening most of our time at Disney World, where the gluten free options are amazing. We will be spending a few days at Universal Studios. Has anyone had any gluten free dining experiences at any of the Universal Studios Restaurants? I would really appreciate any tips!

ARCHIVED Kids Tested Negative
nothungry replied to nothungry's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I have been on the gluten-free diet for celiac disease for over a year. My kids tested negative twice. They do not eat a lot of gluten foods, mostly in their lunchboxes at school and at friends and relatives homes. I do not know much about genetic testing...do insurance companies cover the cost? I went undiagnosed for 30 years and I would never want my... -
I want to start baking gluten free breads at home. I have a terrific oven. I am wondering if I should get a breadmaker and or a kitchen aid stand mixer. Is it better to bake the bread in a breadmaker or in a convection oven? Do I need the kitchen aid mixer anyway to make the dough? From what I heard I need to do some heavy duty mixing for the gluten...

nothungry posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My kids have tested negative for celiac disease. I have celiac disease. I feel as though I should put them on a low gluten diet to lessen the chances of them developing it. Does anyone have experience or thoughts on this? I'd really appreciate any insight. Thanks. -
