My family is pushing me to try anti-depressent medication. I'm struggling with fatigue, and many other minor physical complaints (headaches, stomachaches) that don't seem to have medical explantations. I'm willing to try these meds but I'm concerned about side effects (mainly stomach upset). Any suggestions as to which meds have less GI side effects? ...

Saw an ENT dr. yesterday because my sore throat isn't going away. He suggested taking Prilosec daily because my hiatal hernia may be making my throat sore. This sounds strange to me because I don't think I have "acid" issues. I thought it was allergies, but he doesn't think so because I don't have other allergy symtoms. Anyone out there taking antacid meds...

Are all marshmallows gluten free? Need help for a sweet potato receipe. Thanks!

Checking to see if there are any opinions on this problem - I'm getting a sore throat (ear hurts too) every few days. I don't have a cold and it comes and goes. Since I don't have a Gp doc, I'm not sure who to go to, or if I should wait it out. I also feel very tired when my throat hurts. Any help? Thanks

ARCHIVED Pre-made Pumpkin Pie
bklyn posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anyone ordered a frozen pumpkin pie? My daughter ordered one last year and now we can't remember what company it was. I checked online at Whole Foods Gluten Free Bakery, but they only make apple, pecan. Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Turned Down By Blue Cross/blue Shield

I've been shopping around for health insurance. My present coverage with Unitedhealth care is outrageous. I applied online, but they denied me. They said I would have to be 3 years post diagnosis with "diet only" maintenance. I have an agent looking, so I hope I'll find a policy less expensive than UnitedHealthcare. -
ARCHIVED Wondering What Happened To A Member
bklyn posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I can't remember this member's name and I've been thinking about how she is doing. Her husband had a stroke a few months back, and she wasn't feeling very well. I haven't seen any posts from her and I'm wondering how she is. Does anyone remember her name? Thanks. -
NicoleAJ, Yes, I did ask to speak to a manager before I was seated because they have such an extensive menu I was worried about what to order. I wish I could remember his name, but I can't. He went out of his way to help me, and knew a lot about gluten and what to avoid.

I went to the Cheesecake Factory in Aventura Mall in Aventura, Florida. I'd never eaten there before, so I asked to speak to the manager. He was great! He sat in the booth with us, and went over the menu. After I decided on Mahi Mahi with broccoli, he told me he would personally supervise the preparation. Then he came back to tell me that the broccoli is...

ARCHIVED Chiropractor Questions
bklyn replied to bklyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks for all the replies. It makes me feel much better about this unknown area (for me). I'm going to give it a try for a while, and see if my headaches improve. I know if I have a question, there will always be someone on the board with an answer! -
ARCHIVED Chiropractor Questions
bklyn posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I recently started seeing a chiropractor for headaches (starting in my neck). He took x-rays and used a machine which showed "nerve inflammation." He says he can help me, but it will take many sessions of manipulation, massage, etc. I'm feeling unsure about this. Do any of you see a chiropractor on a regular basis. He even claims that when my spine is aligned... -
ARCHIVED Zataran's Fish Fry
bklyn replied to olalisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Zatarains is listed on the Delphi forum list this way - "Zatrain's notes on our ingredients any product containing wheat flour. To the knowledge of Research & Development and Quality Control the ingredients of oats, rye, and barley are not used." I use the Fish Fry breading. It's good! -
I wasn't sure where to put this question - I'm getting a headache nearly every day, for several months. It usually comes late in the day and starts at the base of my head (neck). I can't get any relief from Tylenol (the only thing I trust not to upset my stomach). Once it starts, that's it for the day and night. Any ideas or suggestions out there? Thanks...

ARCHIVED Positive Experience At Pollo Tropical In Florida
bklyn replied to beaglemania's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Thanks for the info on Pollo Tropicale. I live close to the Sawgrass Mall, but I've never eaten there (since diagnosis.) I like their food, and it's great to have another option. -

I was at the Celiac Center last week and I had an endoscopy and capsule endoscopy. I have seen Dr. Suzie Lee in the past, but I'm having stomach problems so I decided to go back to her. All my tests were good, my Ttg was negative, my villi have returned to normal. She did these tests to be sure that Celiac was under control. No real answer to my stomach aches...

ARCHIVED Article On The Brain/gut Connection
bklyn replied to Nantzie's topic in Publications & Publicity
I'm a walking testimony to the connection between brain and gut. I've recently had to re-schedule my capsule endoscopy 3 times because each time the day before the test is scheduled, I wake up too sick to drink the prep. (Nausea and headache, in bed for a couple of days). Now this can't be a coincidence, right? Each time I tell myself I'm not going to get... -
Going to Tallahassee tomorrow and wondering if there are any restaurants with gluten-free menus? I did eat at Carrabas last time, but I'm looking for other options. Thanks.

ARCHIVED Capsule Endoscopy
bklyn posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm having a capsule endoscopy done on Monday and I wanted to know if anyone has any tips for me on this procedure. The dr.'s office told me I can't do any "heavy lifting" but can I really go about a normal day? Also, I have to do a "prep" the day before. Is this as bad as the prep for a colonoscopy? How long do I have to go without eating? Any help is... -
How about testing through York Labs to see what foods I am intolerant to? Is this a accurate way to determine which foods are the culprits? Then these foods can be eliminated. I ate a meal last night which I prepared with chicken, marsala wine, mushrooms, garlic, parlsley (chicken was dredged in quoina flour). After a short time, the "burning" pain started...

Saw my hematologist yesterday and I have "High platelet count". Dr. says it could be related to anemia (how I was originally diagnosed) or "other causes". (Scary). I have to wait a week for ferritin results and then he'll proceed with other tests, if necessary. I'm also waiting for approval from insurance co. for a capsule endoscopy. My GI doc finally suggested...

Italiana1981, I'll be travelling to Italy in September, so I'll be tracking your blog. I'm anxious to hear how easy or difficult it is to eat in Italy. Have a great trip.

Also, I brought home (to Florida) the croutons and the bread crumbs. YUM

I called my local Outback tonight and told the manager I was coming in and questioned her about the brown sugar. She confirmed that they did sometimes put bread in the brown sugar, but told me to see her when I came in and she would open a new container of brown sugar. She did and when the waiter served it, he told me that had opened a fresh container.

JKmunchkin: I've eaten at Ruby Foo's in Manhattan and they are very aware of Gluten Free! I believe someone's parent has celiac, and knew exactly what I meant. Give it a try.
