  2. This experience was a first for me - went to Chili's (which I do often) and ordered the citrus shrimp and chicken (which is in one of my books as safe) I told the waitress "I have a wheat allergy, I cannot have anything near else on my plate or near my food." My food came and the shrimp and chicken were sittting on top of rice (not in my book) and vegetables...

  4. The book "Against the Grain" by Jax peters Lowell has restaurant cards in every language. If you can find a copy at the library, make a xerox copy of the chinese card.
  5. This is the answer to my question about Indonesian Chicken Wings from Whole Foods - I e-mailed them and they answered "the tamari used in this recipe is not wheat free". When I googled "tamari" I came up with "a wheat free soy sauce". Well, now I know never to buy those again. I attriubuted the burning in my stomach to "spicy wings" but maybe not.
  6. there was a similar situation with a child on my daughter's softball team. All of the moms started to notice that this child was getting thinner and thinner (Her bones were jutting out). At first, everyone suspected anorexia (I didn't think so, she was a little young for that). Anyhow, when someone mentioned this to her mom, the mom at first was defensive...
  7. Would like to know whether these Indonesian chicken wings made at whole foods sound ok to eat - Hot sauce made of: cilantro molasses mint basil, coconut milk tamari pineapple juic lime juice can sugar curry powder peanuts canola oil ginger crushed red pepper
  8. Read your message and I wonder - do you follow up regularly with your doctor? Have they checked to see if your blook work is gluten free? How about an endoscopy? Since Im newly diagnosed, I'm not even sure how I should be following up to make sure I am gluten free.
  9. That's an interesting comment about acid reflux and how it disappeared after going gluten-free. I noticed that I no longer have an annoying cough (which I have read can be from a hiatal hernia) which my dr. found during endoscopy. Suddently, I no longer am coughing. Don't know if it's a coincidence or something with being gluten-free.
  10. I know that surgery may be one of the triggers of celiac disease, but now that I have been diagnosed I'm wondering, is it ok to have minor surgery (ob-gyn related) when someone has celiac disease?
  11. Recently, I had an endoscopy, colonoscopy and a small bowel series (my gastro calls this a "work Up" and my experience was this - the endoscopy requires no prep, other than nothing to eat or drink after midnight. The colonoscopy was difficult because of the time fasting, I had a terrible headache from not eating (my test was late in the day). For both of...
  12. The CSA Gluten Free Product Listing lists Robitussin Cough Drops as gluten-free (what I use)
  13. I feel okay for a few days and then I get extremely fatigued with a sore throat. I can't figure out why I am experiencing this. It's really hard to "drag" myself through the day. I recently had 10 iron infusions, so I don't think it can be iron related. Anyone else?
  14. Does anyone know for sure if Splenda is gluten-free? I was reading through some comments and someone said it wasn't. I use it every day in my coffee. Help!
  15. I went to one of the gluten free lists suggested, but since I am computer challenged, I can't figure out how to print the parts of the list that I want, rather than the entire list (which is HUGE) Anyone able to help me?
  16. My gastroenterologist is Elias E. Dabul, 140 SW 84th Ave., #C, Plantation, Fl. 33324 (954) 476-9350. He performed all of my tests and diagnosed celiac.
  17. I totally relate to relatives who don't get it. Just yesterday, my husband said to me "I don't think you really have this disease" How about that! He was in the room when the doctor showed me my biopsy! This attitude is because I do not react to gluten. I was totally shocked. I will be going to the Celiac Center at Columbia University so I can positively...
  18. Anyone know if Grey Poupon mustard is gluten free?
  19. Every since my diagnosis 3 months ago, all I worry about is the risk of cancer associated with celiac disease. My doctor mentioned it several times to me, and every article and book I read discusses it. Am I the only person worrying about this. Please advise.
  20. I haven't received an answer from anyone on this - New at this - I'm not sure I'm posting this correctly. I was diagnosed in Sept.04 by biopsy and blood work. I have no gastro symptons (low iron was the tip off). I have done a lot of research, belong to a support goup and I have many food lists. I felt I was following the diet as best as possible, but after...
