  1. What about babysitting? I started when I was a little younger than her, and it's a great way to kill time and make some cash. She certainly wouldn't be lonely. And it doesn't have to involve anything too active - she can play board games with the kids, or have them watch movies. Perhaps a penpal from another country? It would be a fun way to learn about...
  2. I think another problem for me is that I hate to cook. I'm not patient enough, unfortunately. So it drives me crazy that my options for convenience foods and take out are so limited.
  3. Is the dairy free because of lactose-intolerance? I ask because some lactose-intolerant people do well with Greek Yogurt...I think some of the bacterias in yogurt make it easier to digest. As for my breakfasts, I usually do either gluten free cereal or string cheese and fruit. Occasionally spoonfuls of peanut butter if I need a protein boost.
  4. I know that some people are really gung-ho into the gluten-free lifestyle. They get really into it and inspire their whole families to join in... Unfortunately, that's NOT me. I honestly find the diet to be the most restrictive and annoying thing ever. I hate not being able to go into a restaurant and order whatever I want. I hate having to pay twice as...
  5. Additionally, it may help to note that the one thing that has finally started to help me with the brain fog has been increased activity levels. And by that I mean increased activity for the mind and body. I've started taking on more tasks to keep my mind busy and occupied, and I've starting solving riddles and playing puzzle games in my spare time. I know...
  6. It depends on what's causing the cognitive symptoms. Going gluten-free might help, but sadly, there's also a chance that it won't help if your cognitive difficulties have a different underlying cause. For me, going gluten-free only helped a little bit. After my first few months of being gluten-free, I noticed that I wasn't as irritable or depressed anymore...
  7. Severity of the disease definitely varies from person to person. If I eat something that has gluten in it as a hidden ingredient, my symptoms are usually subtle...fatigue, brain fog, irritability, skin break outs - all of this usually lasting only a few days. It's more annoying than debilitating. I only get the obvious gastrointestinal sickness if I accidentally...

    ARCHIVED Cereal Bars

The problem I have with Larabars is that they're SO small. They are pretty densely packed, so you are getting enough to eat, but the fact that I can finish one in two bites is a little disappointing. KIND bars are longer and you have to chew them more, so they make for a longer-lasting snack. I also like the Envirokids bars, because they're really...
  9. I get regular bloodwork done, so I don't think I'm anemic. Hmmmm...I guess I'll try to pump up the protein. I've never been a big protein-eater, but maybe that will help. Does anyone know if gluten-free breads have the same vitamins and minerals as regular bread/wheat products? Because I'm almost wondering if I'm missing a nutrient.
  10. I've been gluten-free for about a year now, and I've noticed something - I never really feel full or satisfied after eating a meal anymore. I always end up snacking a bunch after meals, especially in the evening, because I just don't feel satisfied. To the best of my knowledge, my diet is pretty much the same as it was before, the only difference being that...
  11. Thanks guys. I decided to stay in last night, and although it sucked, it seemed to be a good choice. Lots of rest and water, and I feel better already.
  12. Maybe this is just wishful thinking, but I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for getting over being glutened faster? Or something to do to help the symptoms? I ate a bunch of candy last night, only find out this morning that it had hidden wheat in it. Stupid moment for me, I know. But now I have some of the worst mental fog of my life, I'm really bloated...
  13. I used to be a huge bagel lover, so I thought I'd try these. When I warmed one up today, however, the texture tasted just absolutely awful. I couldn't even finish, it was that bad. Does anyone have a trick for getting them to taste okay? I warmed mine in the microwave, so maybe that was the mistake... Also - do you refrigerate or freeze?
  14. My list.... FAST FOOD: -Baja Fresh -Chick-Fil-A -Chipotle -Panera (sounds crazy, but some of their soups and salads are safe) -Pei Wei -Qdoba -Samurai Sam's RESTAURANTS: -Au Bon Pain -Bonefish Grill -Buca di Beppo -Buffalo Wild Wings -Bugaboo -The Capital Grill -Carrabbas -Chili's -Claim Jumper -Don Pablos -Elephant Bar -First Watch...
  15. Most of the restaurants that offer full gluten-free menus are pretty good about making sure that your meal is safe. They print out a menu claiming that a meal is gluten-free if it isn't - that would be recipe for legal problems! I've personally had GREAT experiences at PF Changs, the staff is so knowledgeable, so that could be a good one to try first...
  16. I actually asked about it last time I was there. None of the rolls are safe, but the simple, plain sashimi without any sauce is fine.
  17. The ingredients looked safe, so I've been eating them all along...
  18. Lonestar has a really long gluten-free menu. Joe's Crab Shack is a good option. A lot of the soups and salads at Panera are safe.
  19. Also - there are tons of sushi restaurants! Just avoid imitation crab and be careful with sauces and you should be fine.
  20. There's a PF Chang's right off the strip. Maggiano's is really good about serving gluten-free options; they're located on the strip, just outside the Fashion Show. Rainforest Cafe is helpful at narrowing down gluten-free options. There's one in MGM.
  21. They're supposedly gluten-free, but I know that there's a risk for cross-contamination, with the amount of flour in the joint. I just thought I'd check and see what everyone's experiences have been. Good? Bad? Anyone?
  22. I'm in college too. The problem is that gluten-free alternatives are often more expensive, and preparing them in a way to avoid cross-contamination can be time-consuming and difficult when there's limited space. Colleges usually have tight budgets and the people preparing the food usually aren't trained chefs (more like the equivalent of high school lunch...
  23. Thank you!
  24. I've been looking at the frozen wings that come with sauce, but it looks like all of them contain wheat. Are there any safe brands that you all know of? (I know that I could just buy plain wings and cook/sauce them myself, but I figured I'd ask about ready-made brands first, just to see...)
  25. I've had good experiences with Dove products.
