  1. Woohoo! Crossing fingers, toes, legs, arms for you! That must be a HUGE relief. Oh, I've been subbing guar gum for xanthan gum (DH seems to be sensitive it xantham gum) & had good results with sweet muffin and pumpkin bread recipes in Roben Ryberg book.
  2. Sauces and marinades can be made with soy sauce or worchestershire sauce both of which contain wheat. Some restaurants use wheat flour as a thickener too. We always order the sauce on the side. Also learned the hard way to inquire as to whether the meat/chicken is marinated. It's tough in the beginning, lots to remember and ask about. You have...
  3. Have you looked into quinoa? It's supposed to be a grain that has a complete protein content. Not sure what the carb situtation is though. It's available at Trader Joe's in a box; the health food store either packaged or in bulk bins; and Costco in 4 lb. bags. Cooks up in about 20 minutes. Can be cooked with plain water (so you can use it for breakfast...
  4. Haven't had any of Pamela's mixes but husband seems to react to certain levels of xanthan gum and/or something else in mixes (maybe sorghum flour or pea protein). Hard to pin down exact ingredient.
  5. My husband also eats plain kefir and plain yogurt every other day which seems to help the "hazmat emissions" in addition to avoiding the wheat. My Mom's "emissions" got much better after she started having about 1/2 cup of kefir every day. She has the flavored with sugar versions so seems like the good bacteria is still fine. We actually self-diagnosed...
  6. Well, the good thing is that he is only into Day 2 of the week and he has yet to experience a major setback reaction, not that I would wish that on anyone but sometimes that's the only way people learn. I too did all the research for my husband regarding gluten-intolerance. He was motivated to avoid it because he has a visible reminder (bad eczema). ...
  7. My husband and I have eaten at a Southern California location frequently because we like it and asked alot of questions about the food, especially after he accidentally got glutened. As for the meats: We were told that the beef is 100% beef, no fillers, and the turkey is 100% turkey, no fillers. He's had no reactions to either so they do not seem to...
  8. One of Dr. Mary Shomon's books on the Thyroid pointed out that there could be a correlation between Hashimoto's & being gluten-intolerant and/or celiac. I elected to go gluten-free after being diagnosed with Hashimoto's in addition to having an enlarged thyroid that they wanted to take out or treat with radiation. I only had a couple of the symptoms...
  9. My Husband who's gluten-intolerant, had a bad reaction to a sorghum-based recipe. Like you, it wasn't a gluten reaction but definitely a negative reaction. Haven't had the same issue crop up with potato starch or tapioca or rice.
  10. Hi, maybe try different gluten-free natural seasonings and spices to liven up the standard items you can share. We branched out into Indian food & recipes are plenitful.
