  5. The Koda Farms brand of mochiko (sweet rice or glutinous flour) is usually in Asian stores. It's a white box, 16 oz, with a blue star and the word "Mochiko" in red on the front. Product of USA. Here's a link to the Koda Farms website: Open Original Shared Link And they have recipes on their website too! By the way, in case you didn't know, it is...
  6. My DH no longer uses any Aveeno products just to be safe. I had read that oats may become CC because they are grown near wheat and/or processed in the same place.
  7. Yep, same people, different cookbook. It looks awesome! Maybe I need to pretend I didn't hear about it? Their recipes in the cookbook were really good.
  8. Is this from "Artisanal Gluten-Free Cooking" cookbook by Kelli Bronski and Peter Bronski?
  9. RE: Containers. There are glass containers with glass lids. The Container Store online and in stores carries a 3 qt square container and 16 oz. container with glass lids. It is called Vintage Glass Food Storage (I think the brand is Anchor Hocking). Here's a link: Open Original Shared Link WalMart carries the 3 qt container and used to carry the ...

  11. For cooking at home, there are chinese rice noodles that are made from rice powder and water. They can be found fresh & soft or dried in packages in the market. They can be used like pasta or in a homemade stir-fry. For eating out, look into traditional Vietnamese food, they have dishes that do not call for soy sauce. Plain soft white rice paper...
  12. For DH: baked sweet potato covered with garbonzo beans, brown rice, and diced turkey bacon with a side of romaine lettuce leaves. I had a hardboiled egg, rice bread, romaine lettuce leaf, & turkey bacon.
  13. Does he drink any soft drinks? Some people's bladders are sensitive to something in soft drinks. There's something in the soft drinks that irritates the bladder and causes the urge for frequent urination.
  14. Saw some interesting information in "Gluten-Free: Flavor-Free No More" by Melissa Clark in the NY Times dated 6/1/11. Here's the link: Open Original Shared Link Here are some quotes from the article: "Ms. Ahern, an author, with her husband, Daniel Ahern, of the cookbook “Gluten-Free Girl and the Chef” (Wiley, 2010) and the popular blog Glutenfreegirl.com...
  15. Open Original Shared Link A FEW years ago, tough and tasteless baked goods were just one of the unpleasant things you had to put up with if you had a gluten sensitivity. Flash forward less than a decade, and it
  16. I also have the same problem when I take gluten-free food to dinner parties. It's a challenge because I also like to sample what others bring. OK, OK, frankly, I just like to eat! Well, one thought, you could scale down some recipes of things you normally don't eat and take a few items so you have more variety. One idea: Cut a hothouse cucumber...

  18. Yep, love my KitchenAid stand mixer. Mine is refurbished, I got it at an outlet mall for a deep discount. No problems with it at all. I think it came with a limited warranty. Costco.com and their warehouses also have brand new ones. Also start haunting garage sales and thrift stores, you could get lucky. Maybe join "Freecycle" on yahoo or check the...

  20. Haven't tried making coconut flour that way but it might work. I've found coconut powder at Indian stores too. It's a coarser texture than the coconut flour but might be passable depending on what you're making. How about asking the manager at the Indian store if they can order coconut flour for you? I store extra bags of shredded coconut in the freezer...
  21. Add (to taste) tamari sauce to mayo and use as a dip for steamed broccoli or another steamed veggie. It's just something different if you like dipping veggies in a sauce.
  22. Good to know, thanks!

Stephen Wangen's book "Healthier Without Wheat" discusses Non-Celiac Gluten Intolerance which could be your situation. You can be gluten-intolerant and not meet the classical signs of being celiac. Just saying. Not doctors have the latest and greatest information.
  24. I haven't made them but am also interested in finding a corn-syrup-free recipe. I think there's some science that has to do with adding the corn syrup and the fluffiness but that said, I did find the following recipe: Open Original Shared Link One thing though, it does call for using powdered sugar to dust the pan. I think powdered sugar has cornstarch...
