  1. I think I would speak to my doctor too, if I were ever called for jury duty. Most of my bathroom issues occur in the morning, and many times even when I haven't eaten anything with gluten lately I still have issues and I think it's nerves. I do tend to get nervous if I'm in a situation where no bathroom is available if I need it and I don't think that helps...
  2. Has anyone here with either Celiac's or gluten intolerance had to serve on a jury? I am gluten intolerant and am able to do pretty well in avoiding gluten, and the problems that go along with it. But occasionally I will eat something that causes me to "spend time in the bathroom" and I just wonder what happens if someone has those issues while serving on...
  3. I love Quaker caramel rice snack cakes, and the chocolate ones, and the apple cinnamon ones as well. They don't say "gluten free" on the front of the bag, but there are no wheat ingredients listed and for allergens it just says milk and soy. I don't have problems eating them, and since I'm counting calories they are a great afternoon snack food.
  4. I would love to order gluten-free products on-line. I went to Udi's and had 4 items in my "cart" for a total of about $25. They wanted $25 for shipping! Ouch! I'm not paying that much. I would like to order from another source, but so many of their items you have to buy 6. I don't want 6 packages of Udi bread, or muffins, or whatever. I don't have...
  5. I bought a 4-pack of Udi's Gluten Free Blueberry Muffins yesterday. I left one out to thaw, and froze the other 3. I ate it this morning for breakfast. Oh, my goodness, was it delicious!! Heavenly!! Can't have them too often, since I'm counting calories but for an occasional treat they are wonderful! Anyone else like them? I sure wish Udi's shipping...
  6. I had my credit card out and was all set to order a few things from their web site (loaf of whole grain bread, package of 2 pizza crusts, package of cinnamon rolls, package of bagels and a package of one of their granolas. But then I saw the shipping charge. Over $25 for 5 items. I know it's 2-night air delivery but I just can't spend that much on shipping...
  7. I have had the brain fogginess, forgetfulness, etc. and just thought it was menopause. But after seeing what so many others are going through, now I wonder if it's the gluten. I am gluten intolerant, do not have Celiac's. I try to stick to the gluten-free diet, but sometimes I still crave things I'm not supposed to have and I occasionally give in to those...
  8. I voted G.I. issues. If I stick to my gluten-free diet religiously then I'm fine, but if I give in to a craving and have something with gluten then I pretty much just stay home the next day (at least the morning/early afternoon) because of "bathroom issues." It's interesting to see what others are saying. I have been thinking my foggy brain and forgetfulness...
  9. I guess I just expected the gluten-free bread dough to form a well-kneaded ball like regular bread does. Shows you how much I know about gluten-free bread making and baking, ha ha! I knew it didn't have to rise, because of the gluten-free setting on the machine, but I just expected the bread to be smooth and uniform. I'm glad to hear others say...
  10. Thanks for the quick reply. I will try it with potato starch and see how it goes.
  11. Another vote for Udi's. I bought some kind of tapioca bread at the health food store when I first went gluten-free and it was horrible. I made a sandwich and could not even choke down half of it. Threw the whole loaf away. Then I bought a loaf of gluten-free bread at Meijer, I think it was made by a company called Scharr's, if I remember right. It...
  12. I recently bought a Breadman bread machine after doing some research. Yesterday I went to the local health food store and bought the different flours, xanthan gum, etc. that I needed. I was so excited to bake my first loaf of gluten-free bread this morning. I carefully followed the directions, and double-checked my amounts, etc. It was awful!! It was...
  13. I love cornbread, but stay away from it in restaurants because I don't know if it has wheat in it. This looks like a great and simple recipe, I'm going to try it this week!!
  14. I miss bread so much since I have been gluten free. I've tried a few loaves from the store and really have not found one that I just love, and I hate paying the price for them too. So I'm thinking of getting a bread machine and making my own. Does anyone else do this? What kind of machine do you have? Do you buy mixes or make your own bread mix from...
  15. My husband likes the Olive Garden for their pasta varieties, but why can't they have a few gluten free pasta choices for those of us who are gluten intolerant, have celiac's, etc.? There are so many great rice pastas, it would be nice if they would broaden their gluten free menu a little bit.
  16. I'm not at all sure I spelled that right, so for that I do apologize. Does anyone here take acidopholus? I went out to dinner with several other people recently and one other woman has a wheat intolerance as I do and she asked me if I take it. I told her I didn't, and the conversation took a turn to something else before I got the chance to...
  17. The cost: That is the main reason I hate to try new gluten-free foods. If I don't like them I've wasted the $$$. Tapioca bread for example, I paid something like $5.69 for a teeny tiny loaf. I took one bite and hated the taste. I managed to get a full slice down, but knew I wouldn't eat any more so threw it away. I felt terrible! Even something as...
  18. Food for Life multi-seeded rice bread. I discovered I have an intolerance for wheat a few months ago, tried some kind of tapioca bread and could not eat it. It was awful! I had to throw the whole loaf away and I felt bad for spending the money on it, so I just didn't buy any other kind for a long time. But yesterday I finally decided to try another...
  19. I've gotten the penne, lasagna noodles, elbows, tri-colored twists and regular twists at my local health food store. $3 for 12 oz. Then today I was at Meijer's (chain dept. store, like Wal-Mart) and they had a really good gluten free section. The Tinkyada pasta was there, but I didn't buy any so didn't notice what their price was. I love the penne...
  20. Gosh, I don't mind eating gluten-free food but I sure do mind paying for it! Yikes!! There is a health food store near me and I've gotten a few things there like crackers, cereal, soups, pasta, etc. and everything is so much more expensive than "regular" food. And today I went to Meijer's to check out their gluten free stuff and they did have a...
  21. Once or twice a week I will have a scrambled egg and sausage patty for breakfast. Sometimes oatmeal with a bit of milk, and brown sugar or honey. This morning I had two small pancakes made with Gluten Free Pantry Brown Rice & Pancake mix. I couldn't tell the difference between them and regular pancakes.
  22. Even though it is 3 years old I'm glad to have found it, I got some good information from it. And copied the tomato soup recipe.
  23. I am very new to eating gluten-free and I love soups, but find most store-bought soups have gluten in them. At a health food store I found gluten-free soups, so far I have tried Amy's Organic Soup (chunky vegetable) and really liked it. And I like Crunchmaster's Multi-seeded crackers to go with it.
  24. I like Tinkyada's brown-rice penne pasta, that's the only one I've tried and since I like it I've stuck with it instead of trying others. I basically just cook up one serving, so don't have any leftovers to know how well it holds up to reheating. I did try a box mix of macaroni and cheese, but can't remember the brand name. It was okay, a bit mushy...
  25. I had a colonoscopy a year ago, the prep was the worst and spending so much time in the bathroom. I felt like I should sleep on the toilet. The procedure itself was a piece of cake. I was on the table and the nurse said she was going to inject demerol (I think that was it) and it would make me feel a little dizzy. I said "wow, yes it does make me feel...
