  1. I agree it sounds like a stomach bug to me! Hope you feel better soon!

I think sometimes we stay so focused on gluten issues that we tend to forget that everyone deals with diarrhea, vomitting, heartburn, and stomach aches on occassion!

  2. Or done it at a previous resturaunt that he cooked at. However, Florindo's isn't going to want to say they let him cook because they are responsible for thier employess actions. It is thier fault if they didn't check on his work.

Sounds like they are pulling a CYA. The pictures he had of the restaurant show him wearing a chef's coat.

  3. He has pictures posted of a restaurant called Florinda's in Glenwood Springs. It doesn't specify whether he works there or is just friends with the owners.

If you read reviews on Trip Advisor this restaurant has been getting terrible reviews lately. Most of them saying how far downhill the place has gone. It would be kind of funny if he was the new chef that was bringing the place down. They do make homemade pasta so it's a possibility.

  4. I don't know who would want to eat anything this guy cooked anyhow! He sounds so bitter and unhappy. Are there any people dining at his restaurant that he doesn't think he is better than? Anyone he doesn't feel the need to make fun of? Dining out is expensive and for a lot of people it is a treat! They shouldn't feel like they have to buy new clothes or be embarrassed to order water instead of paying $10+ for a cocktail!!! Most of all they shouldn't have to worry about eating something that will damage their digestive tract and cause them a week or more of illness and discomfort! This disgusts me and makes me afraid to trust chefs!!!

This guy shouldn't even be allowed to work at a fast food restaurant!!!

  5. Wow, I think that would have really hurt my feelings! You just don't expect that from friends who know the issues you are dealing with! I hope she just had a serious memory lapse and wasn't being intentionally malicious! I'm sorry you were put in such an awkward situation! :(

  6. I agree with the above advice. Go on the diet 100% and see how you feel. IMO false negatives are so common that this is the only true test! If after a month or so you see no improvement then try an elimination diet. Something is causing your symptoms and frankly doctors are of little use. It's sometimes better to take things into your own hands! Good luck! Keep us posted on how you are feeling on the diet!

  7. I am so sorry about what you are going through! I can't imagine what a shock this must be! Hopefully she is just emotional over her diagnoses and perhaps even gluten withdrawl and will reconsider! It sounds like if she doesn't she is losing out on a great and caring husband! I have a wonderful husband but trust me, he'd never join this forum just to help me cope or make a special trip to try to replace a beloved candy bar. He'd probably tell me to suck it up and to be thankful I wasn't worse off! Hope she appreciates what she has in time!

  8. Sorry your actual birthday wasn't so hot! I was in the same boat this year with a kidney and double ear infection. I had to get a shot in the butt on my b-day that made me sicker than a dog! I did like you and had a birthday do over later in the week! :) So glad your first meal out has settled well! Happy belated birthday and I hope you continue to improve so next year can be your best b-day yet!

  9. Are you taking B12 suppliments? I had a lot of pain with numbness and tingling when I was low on B12. I got injections for awhile and they really helped!

I don't know how much mobility you can handle but Netflix has quite a few Yoga workouts for aches and pains on demand.

I think as you continue to heal you will find a lot of your issues going away and you will be feeling tons better! :) Try to pamper yourself where you can in the meantime to keep your spirits up! Maybe a manicure or pedicure? Rest as much as you can. Treat yourself to gluten free goodies now and then!

  10. It sounds like from the tests her body is making antibodies against gluten which would indicate that she needs to eliminate it. She may have still had symptoms due to a secondary intolerance like soy or dairy. She could've been experience withdrawl symptoms. Or maybe she just wasn't on the diet long enough to see results.

  11. As a side note, make sure your hand sanitizer doesn't have gluten! I was using Bath and Body Works hand sanitizer before eating lunch at work (not to remove gluten, just because of germs) and then realized both my Japanese Cherry Blossom and Apple Glow sanitizers had wheat amino acids in them!

  12. I will admit I have indeed had this very thought. I never act on it though. I think about long term damage and side effects. I guess it's like if you had a sunburn you wouldn't hop in the tanning bed because the damage is already done. It would just be worse. So yeah, I think but never act! It makes me soooo mad to get sick from something I didn't even enjoy though!

  13. Trust me, eating a piece of "real" cake on my birthday would not be an indulgence I'd want to make. Spending the day in the bathroom and the next week fatigued with joint pain, tingling in my arms and legs, canker sores, and a rash does not make for a good birthday.

The good news is you can fabulous cakes gluten free. I made the best cake for my daughters birthday. Chocolate roulade w/ cream cheese icing, covered in chocolate ganache! No one had a clue it was gluten free! Everyone said it was the best cake ever and it looks quite fancy! :)

  14. I guess I'm a terrible person to give advice because I make gluten free Bisquick biscuits and like them and I like Udi's bread but what I did was to just not eat bread. For months. I tried one brand when I first went gluten-free, hated it and just gave up for awhile. By the time I tried Udi's my memories of what bread was supposed to taste like were faded so my expectations were lower. Now I love it! :)

Also I never liked baking wheat bread which only used one flour so I'm certainly not motivated to mix three or more. So knowing it's already made for me makes the taste a lot more acceptable.

  15. Is there any possible way that your family's hamburger buns came into contact with you? I say anytime you are assembling a meal with gluten and gluten free ingredients cross contamination is highly likely. Also your cookware...is it scratched and is gluten cooked in it? Do you use dedicated tools for cooking gluten free? Is your toaster 100% gluten free?

I'd say since you do fine at breakfast with cold cereal that it has something to do with your cookware or cooking surfaces.

  16. Hi,

Maybe I am totally off here but I ate a bag od Doritos yesterday and I noticed they have wheat flour in them.

I went to the store and bought a bag, i was craving them so badly for days and when I got home I checked the ingredients and there was wheat flour in them...... I admit I saw that before i ate them and ate them anyway, I caved. It had been 2 months I had been gluten-free and I've been feeling better.

Anyway today I have nausea and pretty bad heartburn. :( and I am achy like when you are getting a cold, plus sore eyes, headache, light chills and tired. Just like when you start to get a cold... Maybe I AM getting a cold, and it is pure coincidence. Just wondering if it could be gluten related.

    ?

I would say yes. All these symptoms can be caused by gluten. I always get stomach issues immediately if I'm glutened and then flu like symptoms for days after. Cheating isn't worth it to me!

  17. I know a lot of people who waited til they were in their late 30s or even early 40s to have kids! In fact my mom was 36 and my dad 43 when I was born! It's not too late for you so no need to panic! :)

I agree with the above advice, wait until the glutening has completely passed and have a talk with your boyfriend to see if you are on the same page. In my experience it seems that men are a bit more cautious in relationships than women. It can take them longer to decide to commit and that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

  18. I personally have never passed any blood after being glutened but I have heard of it happening. It's very possible that the soup could be contaminated even if it doesn't have actual gluten in the ingredients. Stirring with the wrong spoon, using the wrong cutting board, flour in the air, ect. Also it's possible you could be food poisoned. Is anyone else ill at your school? Did anyone else noticed the soup tasted off? At any rate, I would still consider seeing a doctor.

  19. Wow...that is pretty gross! I would never dream of grabbing food from someone's bowl! If the person asked if I wanted a bite I may consider it but would find a clean utinsel to remove my portion with, not my hands! Gluten aside it's flu season! I guess if this happened to me I would probably rewash the fruit and eat it, or give it all to the coworker. I wouldn't be very happy about things for certain!
