  1. Gluten free since November, and everything seems to be going great, except these last two months I'm feeling exhausted more often than not. I had off and on exhaustion leading up to going gluten free, but this is more of a persistent can't lift my arms, feeling like I've just run a marathon exhaustion. Strictly physical--no mental exhaustion. Is this...
  2. This happens to me, though I don't think it's from foods. I'd say-- Check all of your soaps first. Many of them can cause bladder irritation--which could be made even worse by foods. Get a gentle, non-scented soap. Also check your laundry detergents--again, try unscented ones. Make sure you're not using any sprays or anything scented down there. ...
  3. EH's book wasn't particularly inaccurate. The only thing I remember was Amy's Frozen dinners, which she recommended, but are not actually safe--they're at risk for cross contamination in the factory, though the ingredients themselves are gluten free. Of the two Amy's dinners I've eaten since being gluten free, one glutened me. That was the only inaccuracy...
  4. The celiac diagnosis would be correct--make sure your diet is actually gluten free. If you're not querying every single thing you eat and drink for hidden sources of gluten, then you'll still get it in your diet. Anything listed with 'natural and artificial flavors' is suspect, anything under gluten's various other names, etc. It can take months to figure...

    ARCHIVED Doctor'S "Diagnosis"

Wow...that's just...wow. Is there any place you can write a review of him or otherwise let people know how uneducated he is about celiac? You might be able to save some other people some time and keep them from being misdiagnosed. In the meantime, I'd get a new doctor and retake the full celiac panel before the gluten-free diet takes effect. What were...
  6. I've found it fairly easy to stick to a gluten free veggie diet (at least at home) and have it cheap. Just don't be suckered in to buying the replacement items like bread mixes and such--they're too expensive, and you've already said you don't have the time to make them. Here are my quick and easy veggie standby meals: Breakfast: cottage cheese with...
  7. Definitely check the calories of everything you're eating. If you're replacing gluten dishes with their non-gluten versions, you're almost certainly getting more calories. The non-gluten versions are more calorie dense. Check your breads, treats, baking mixes, etc.
  8. The biopsies can be hit or miss. Since the damage can be patchy, the doctor may have just taken samples from sections that were healthy; however, it's equally possible something else could be the problem. I'm glad you mentioned the gallbladder--I was going to suggest that. I understand gallbladder problems happen more with spicy and rich foods; on the...
  9. You're probably getting more sensitive or making little mistakes. I'd investigate the cat thing. I like to kiss my little kittie all the time too, but I'm thinking I'm going to have to get her some different food. She eats Whiskas and it has 'Wheat Gluten' right there on the ingredients in large letters. I don't know what's available gluten free for...
  10. Teeth dreams are usually health related--it's your subconscious's way of telling you your health is out of control. I used to have these dreams when I was overweight and out of shape. Once I got into shape and lost the weight, the dreams stopped. That was well before going gluten free--so it's not specifically a celiac thing, just an overall health thing...
  11. Is it flavored coffee? Both that and instant coffee, like you get at a hospital/hotel, can have gluten.
  12. When I started the diet, I felt better right about 2 1/2 days into it. That lasted for several days, then I felt horrible again. For me, how bad it was varied with my monthly cycle--no idea if your male or female, but if you're female, your sensitivity can change with your hormone levels. But I was also making some minor mistakes with the diet. You'll...
  13. Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I can't afford to get my thyroid tested, but I don't have any other symptoms of that. A lot of people have mentioned nails--actually, my nails seem okay, as best I can tell. I'll put coconut oil on my list though. I'll definitely try the coconut oil warmed up and with a towel covering it. Are Country Life vitamins...
  14. Thanks, I'll definitely try biotin and folic acid. I don't take prescription drugs, or any drugs, or drink much, so that's not it. I'll definitely put aside a day to work on trimming off all these split end--hate to imagine how ragged my hair will look like afterward!
  15. I'm guessing you know to check the vitamin E to make sure it's not from a gluten source like wheat germ. I don't know if that could impact your nails, but it might affect you elsewhere, especially if you're like me and you bite them. I don't have an issue with my nails, but my hair is dry. I'm looking into ways to fix that. Others suggested omega-3...
  16. Thanks--I wonder if that's why flax seeds and flax seed oil taste like heaven to me--all the omega oils! I actually eat a lot of avocados--again, I seem to crave them--but I'll definitely switch to full fat dairy to see if that helps. As to the split ends--I keep trimming...they keep multiplying! It's a wonder my hair has gotten any longer at all over...
  17. Hi! I really need help with my hair--nutritional issues. It's been dry for the last couple of years (wasn't when I was younger.) This summer I lost all of my hair color--it went from extremely dark brown to a dull red in the matter of a couple of months--from root to tip. I haven't noticed any hair loss, but honestly, I have so much of it I wouldn't...
