    ARCHIVED Ads

Our advertising policy is here. More and more pizza establishments are offering gluten-free options, so a pizza ad is not necessarily out of place. I don't know if the company in question has a gluten-free crust option. If you feel an advertisement is inconsistent with the policy, please provide specifics to Scott (screen name admin).
  2. In Canada, Thanksgiving Day is the second Monday in October. This coincides with the US observation of Columbus Day.
  3. That would be for food I guess, other hunger having been satiated.
  4. It seems to be fairly common for people to develop a "tolerance" level when constantly eating gluten, and then lose it after being gluten-free for a while.
  5. Holy cow! Former Blue Jay Roy Halladay, now playing for Phillies (that's Phillies, not Psillies) just pitched a no-hitter in his first post-season game. There has only been one other post-season no-hitter in ML history--Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series.
  6. I'm at the shop where we are trying to fit lots of new stuff into our already crowded displays.
  7. Different browsers have different characteristics. Exploder uses a lot of memory, and is prone to unexpected freezes. It is the one I usually use to access this site since there are some things I need that don't work in FireFox. I have recently begun using Google Chrome for some things, and it has a different feel, but seems to be more efficient. I once used...
  8. Yes, the screen name is dollamasgetceliac?. She calls herself Llama Lady in her posts.
  9. Well, I confess that as a mod, I have access to one clue about Llama Lady that is not available to ordinary members. I can see the IP address from which posts are made. So, after looking at some of her posts again, I started wondering what famous female who has appeared on television would be in the Sacramento area. When a name popped into my head, I investigated...
  10. The LlamaLady has not posted in over a year, but I did some sniffing around and here is my guess: Maria Shriver.
  11. Rachelle is the RL name of celiac-mommy. Rachel is the RL name of mimommy. Also not heard from here lately are Lisa B and Laura.
  12. Dermatitis herpetiformis, the skin condition associated with celiac disease.
  13. MIL update. J is back and tells me that her mother is on some SERIOUS pain meds after the surgery which are affecting her judgement. She is as high as a kite and is experiencing an escape from reality (can I get some of the stuff?). Anywho, the catheter and IV are expected to be removed tomorrow, along with the restraints.
  14. Hmmm. Was the cellophane the only thing she was wrapped in? That certainly would be an attention-getter. Phamily phun around here. MIL broke her hip and/or femur on Friday and is in hospital. She underwent surgery yesterday evening. As you may recall, she has dementia. She keeps trying to get out of bed, so she has been restrained. The four children...
  15. Some I can think of quickly: Taste of the Wild Natural Balance (allergy formulas-check the label) Wellness (Some formulas-look for the yellow "Grain Free" triangle on the label)
  16. Oh, one more thing. Dog biscuits are the biggest source of gluten in a dog's diet, since most are made with wheat flour. There are gluten-free biscuits out there, but you have to look. Natural Balance has some. If you are in Canada, Northern Biscuit products are all wheat-free and many are grain-free.
  17. This is from two years ago, but I have no reason to believe that it is not still true. I can confirm from current knowledge that Orijen, Taste of the Wild, Merrick BG, and Wellness Core are gluten-free. Many of the Natural Balance formulas are gluten-free. Also gluten-free are Now! and Wholesome Blend (those two are Canadian made). Grain-Free is a big...

    ARCHIVED Newbie

USA Code of Federal Regulations Sec. 184.1444 Maltodextrin CAS Reg. No. 9050-36-6. It is a nonsweet nutritive saccharide polymer that consists of D-glucose units linked primarily by [alpha]-1-4 bonds and has a dextrose equivalent (DE) of less than 20. It is prepared as a white powder or concentrated solution by partial hydrolysis of cornstarch, potato...
  19. Keep them frozen until ready to use. Defrost them completely in microwave, then slice and toast. We don't eat them every day, but enjoy them a couple of times a month.
  20. Jell-O is a Kraft brand. Kraft will clearly disclose gluten grains by name in the ingredients list. If you don't see wheat, rye, barley or oats listed, the product is gluten-free.
  21. Of course they label "all the ingredients." That is the law. But, some terms permissible on labels can have multiple meanings. My read on that statement by Unilever has always been that rye, barley, oats and wheat are ingredients that will be clearly disclosed. BTW, caramel color is gluten-free. That particular myth was shown to be false years ago....
  22. Hops are gluten-free. Giving an "assurance" would require actual testing of the product and its ingredients for possible contamination, which most companies do not do.
