Celiac.com - Celiac Disease & Gluten-Free Diet Support Since 1995

  1. Just because something makes you sick does not necessarily mean it contains gluten. I am a celiac. I react to gluten. If I eat shellfish, I get very sick. This does not prove that shellfish contain gluten--they don't. It proves that, in addition to having celiac disease, I am also allergic to shellfish. There are many things in the paper...
  2. Wishbone is owned by Unilever. Unilever will clearly disclose all gluten sources in the ingredient list. This has been their policy for as long as I have been on the diet. If you don't see wheat, rye, barley or oats by name in the ingredient list, then there is no gluten in the product. Note that the original post is almost two years old, BTW.
  3. I'm puzzled. Villous atrophy was diagnostic of celiac as I understood it. When I had my endoscopy in 2000, the biopsies found "significant villous atrophy" which I was told meant celiac. The GI told me it was an advanced case. That would explain the severity of my symptoms. I don't know what else might be needed for the biopsy to be considered positive...
  4. This must be a regional thing with psome of these psilly, psilent, psoundless letters. I have consulted four dictionaries, and three out of four pronounce the leading "o" but don't agree on how. Webster says a long oh, while both the regular and Canadian Oxford indicate a schwa (remember them?). The fourth one, a 1950 edition of the American College Dictionary...
  5. I hear you. This sometimes happens to me. Emily has two dogs, so things may be a little different in her world. =^..^=
  6. Hmm. Perhaps you should consider closing the door, you exhibitionist! To Google yourself is interesting, I suppose. A search on your name does not come up with anything that I found interesting. As noted, a search on my name gets the professor in England who studies the history of the vikings. Perhaps that is noteworthy, since my mother's ancestry...
  7. Good grief! That is very strange. I have no idea. Perhaps bare skin is an attraction. Maybe you should try sitting nekkid in an ordinary chair, and report back to us? Cats are such mysterious creatures at times.
  8. Okay, I will share the reason for the anonymous login. I am a fan of the original Star Trek and always wanted to try the famous Romulan cloaking device. This is as close as I have been able to get. As a moderator, I wanted to look into a member's activities without disclosing my presence. When you view a member's profile, your own identity is recorded...
  9. Actually, it is probably me that you have been seeing. I logged in invisibly about a week ago for a specific reason and haven't logged out and back in since. I will reveal myself again after this post. The day started out cool and wet, but since late morning it has been sunny and a bit warmer than expected. It is rather windy.
  10. It seems very quiet here this morning. Tom, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. There are too many sad things around here lately. 'Tis the Friday of the long weekend here, so it will likely be quiet at the store in the later part of the day. We're taking tomorrow off, but the weather isn't going to be great. Cool with showers for the next two days...
  11. By popular demand, I have a new avatar. For those who missed the original post, this is Caramel asleep with her head on the keyboard. This developed while I was doing something other than reading this board (although that IS what is on the monitor), and lasted almost an hour early this afternoon. Bev, that really is a downer about the tick. I do hope that...
  12. So I had the notebook at the store today, but for a prolonged period mid-day I couldn't seem to get anything done. Click here to see why! That might make a neat avatar.
  13. This post above is less than three hours old, but it does not have an edit button. I am consistently seeing this in posts over two hours old--it is nowhere near the 36 hours Scott mentioned. I am logged in, and this site has full cookie privileges. Im using Firefox 2.0.0.14, but I tried IE just now, and it was the same: no edit button for my 1:05 post. ...
  14. It used to be that you could edit any post (of your own) at any time. It now seems that there is a window during which recent posts can be edited, and once this window expires no more edits are allowed. I don't know the exact limit, but it seems to be somewhere between one and two hours. I don't know if this is Scott's intent or an accident. I have seen...
  15. The subject of googling my name came up once before. If you just use my first and last names, you will find lots of hits, most of them relating to a professor of Scandinavian history, who has written books on the subject. There a very few hits on my full name as an exact match, and all of them are versions of my brother's biography (which lists his family...
  16. It is common to have your condition improve immediately and then slip back somewhat. It will then improve again if you stay 100% gluten free. The answer about your kitchen stuff is that it depends: Some things can be cleaned easily and do not pose a worry. These include stainless steel pots, pans, flatware and baking pans. Wash them thoroughly and they...
  17. Laura, we right handed folks need to stay together. Sillyville is for everybody. Royal proclamation: Laura (happygirl) is accepted as a citizen of Sillyville, with all that it entails. She must visit regularly, share phunny stories, and laugh along with us. And while I'm at it, Lisa (curlyfries) has been enthusiastically participating, so I will...
  18. No, stick around. Then there will be at least two of us righties here. I don't have curly hair. This is not just a community of curly-haired, left-handed women.
  19. What an interesting coincidence. I had my yearly physical yesterday morning, and the doctor and I were discussing this as we prepared for the male-specific unpleasant event: digital rectal prostate examination. She said that she thought it (the rectal probe) was not as bad as a pap smear. I think this is one of those great questions in life that...
  20. Well, early mornings are quiet. We started at 9:00 and all the paint was laid out by 10:30. I did watch for it to dry as I worked my way across the lot, moving the pylons, to make sure that at least two of the four spaces were usable at all times. The paint is specific for the purpose, and is touch dry in less than 30 minutes. It is latex based too, so cleaning...
  21. It is a step in the right direction, and certainly less fuss than an overflowing toilet.
  22. Well, I did. It is a small lot, four spaces in all, perpendicular to the front wall. Five lines to paint using a roller on a long handle. The whole exercise, including watching it dry, took less than two hours.
  23. She is Tuppence. We rescued her six years ago when she was 12 weeks old. I may be the king here in Sillyville, but at our house the cats rule. The males are 12 and 10 and are pretty relaxed. Tuppence is very demanding, and competes with three-year-old Riley for the role of Queen. Then there are two more females that live at our store. The census by species...
  24. Emily, the new family member looks wonderful. She is all legs, isn't she? And you must tell us just how you managed to swing Will over to supporting Elsie. I just bought this hat.
  25. So true. I completely agree with Tiffany. It is all about respect for each other even when we don't agree.
