  1. This topic is seven years old. Much has changed. No longer true. As of January 1, 2006 (over five years ago), ANY wheat content in packaged food in the USA MUST, by federal law, be clearly and explicitly disclosed, using the word "wheat."
  2. Kroger does not operate in Canada, so I have no direct experience. However, I would eat them. There is no gluten in the ingredient list, and the oil is explicitly declared to be from corn (not sunflower).
  3. Welcome to the board. Spelt is closely related to wheat, and is actually higher in gluten content per gram than wheat. Gluten-free baked goods are expensive, but a gluten-free diet can be focussed on what you CAN eat.

  6. No credible authority has ever been cited here as saying there is a risk. The new barrels are thoroughly washed with water before any wine goes into them. The reuse of the barrels means the risk, if there indeed is any, would decline with each use. The barrels are refilled, not remade.
  7. Sadly, there are a number of misinformed people who believe "gluten-free" means "tastes like crud." A gluten-free label may cause these people to not buy a product because it is labeled gluten-free. It's not a guaranteed upside.
  8. Corn is common. Smirnoff, as just one example, is made from corn.
  9. As noted above, the single word "vinegar" as an ingredient in the US is apple cider vinegar, which is usually also distilled. It is gluten-free.
  10. Short answer: No. You must not cheat, even a little. Each time you ingest gluten you will restart the self-destructive autoimmune reaction which attacks your body.
  11. I don't know what "olive oil" you are using, but the olive oil I use is 100% pure olive oil. If something else is present, it would have to be declared in the ingredient list (at least in the US and Canada). Oil from another source would have an explicit name (e.g. peanut oil) or just be listed as "vegetable oil." But "olive oil" as an ingredient can only...
  12. Most ovens don't get hot enough on the normal cycle. The consensus here has been that you need to get to at least 600 degrees F and stay at that temperature for at least 30 minutes. A self-clean cycle does that.

  19. In the United States, if any grain product is added to meat it must be disclosed per USDA rules. If the meat is contained in a processed food product, then FALCPA rules apply, and wheat must be clearly disclosed.
  20. The OP is in the USA, where Ragu is a registered trademark, so I would expect that they are referring to the Ragu sauce made by Unilever. Unilever will clearly disclose any gluten source in the ingredient list on their products.
