ARCHIVED General Mills To Debut Gluten-Free Bisquick
sa1937 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Regular Cookie Crisp is not gluten free (it contains wheat), although the Sprinkles Cookie Crisp doesn't have any ingredients that would suggest it isn't gluten free (although not made in dedicated facilities like Chex). Here's a list of GM products to check: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Looking For Some Help For My Son....
sa1937 replied to Nolan'smom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm a LOT older than 7, but I like snacky things, too. Not everything has to be super healthy stuff although I must say, I've probably never eaten better in my life than I am now since going gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Looking For Some Help For My Son....
sa1937 replied to Nolan'smom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
There are lots of snacks available...maybe too many Here are a few of my favorites and I tolerate them well (not everyone can). Of course, read the labels for everything. A lot of these were things I enjoyed prior to going gluten free and many are available in regular grocery stores, not something you need to go to specialty stores for. I bet your son... -
ARCHIVED Finger Nail Abnormalities
sa1937 replied to k2626's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Wow! Very interesting article! I haven't seen my real nails for years, thanks to acrylic overlays and manicures. -
The yellow cake mix got a mediocre review on the BC website. This recipe for Lemon Lover's Cupcakes caught my eye: Open Original Shared Link I'm just wondering if anyone has tried it. It has gotten favorable reviews so maybe we have to kill it with flavor to make it taste better???

ARCHIVED Ener-G Brown Rice Loaf
sa1937 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh, I didn't mean to imply that I won't try other breads...just don't know if I ever want to try another Ener-G loaf. The Kinnikinnick English muffins are great! I really need to try and make my own bread and see how that works out. Can you substitute flax seed and water (can't remember the ratio) for eggs? I hope your daughter doesn't need to... -
ARCHIVED Ener-G Brown Rice Loaf
sa1937 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Avoiding other allergens, too, would be a real problem. I tried toasting the Brown Rice Loaf and that didn't work. I'm not sure I could ever get used to the taste or texture. Now I'm too much of a coward to try any of their other kinds of bread. -
ARCHIVED General Mills To Debut Gluten-Free Bisquick
sa1937 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hopefully it'll taste great! The only gluten free mix I've tried is their Brownie Mix and my son and daughter-in-law couldn't tell the difference (I added extra chocolate chips and nuts, too). I have a yellow cake mix in my pantry so that'll be the next thing I try. I think the Hamburger Helper mixes will be one using potatoes and the other two are rice... -
ARCHIVED General Mills To Debut Gluten-Free Bisquick
sa1937 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Great article! I was so happy to stumble across it while googling for something else. Your photo looked so familiar. I remember a brunch pie, too...like quiche only easier. I also made some type of a coconut impossible pie (dessert). I didn't know about cookie crisp or Trix. How about Kix? Is it gluten free, too, even though not made in a... -
ARCHIVED Tater Tot Casserole
sa1937 replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I swear there's no end what we can do with the ingredients for this casserole. My kids loved it when they were young. I *think* Ore-Ida Tater Tots are gluten free. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. And if you used Campbell's cream of tomato soup, sadly I don't know that any of their soups are gluten free. They used to be such a staple for me. -

Well, duh! I would never have thought of English muffin rings. Your English muffins are making my mouth water! -
ARCHIVED General Mills To Debut Gluten-Free Bisquick
sa1937 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think they make Chex cereals, cake mixes, etc. in a dedicated facilty, don't they? I've gotten Chex cereals occasionally for $2.00 a box. Anytime we can get get those foods from a grocery store or Wal-Mart, they're usually not as expensive as a health food store (yes, I shop those, too). I bought some Pamela's mix last week but haven't tried it yet... -

ARCHIVED Ener-G Brown Rice Loaf
sa1937 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks, ciavyn! Right at the moment I can't see driving that far for a loaf of bread (as if I ever get out of any grocery store with only a loaf of bread). lol I really don't eat many sandwiches and much prefer leftovers for lunch. -
ARCHIVED General Mills To Debut Gluten-Free Bisquick
sa1937 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ohhhh, I forgot about biscuits and those impossible pie recipes, too. I have a good pancake recipe but I haven't tried it yet with gluten free flours so I haven't used Bisquick for years for pancakes like I used to. I think I also made a streusel coffee cake with Bisquick. -
ARCHIVED Ener-G Brown Rice Loaf
sa1937 replied to sa1937's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Magpie, how do you bake your English muffins? Like the kind of pan you use. I read somewhere of using muffin-top pans to bake hamburger buns. Hopefully you'll share you recipe with us when you've finished tweaking it. I have yet to make my first loaf of gluten free bread even though I've had a cookbook lying open for the past week to a bread recipe... -
ARCHIVED General Mills To Debut Gluten-Free Bisquick
sa1937 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm glad to hear that General Mills is going to come out with gluten free Bisquick and Hamburger Helper. Open Original Shared Link While I have never used a lot or Bisquick, I do like to make oven-fried chicken with it. And I've probably not bought half a dozen boxes of Hamburger Helper in my entire life. It's great to have more options though and... -
ARCHIVED Tribe Hummus
sa1937 replied to foodiegurl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I highly doubt that it's even humanly possible for anyone to make their home 100% gluten free. I just never dreamed grocery shopping would be so terribly frustrating. My apologies for getting off topic. -
ARCHIVED Confused! Positive Blood Test For Celiac's
sa1937 replied to nichol's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome, Nichol! I've learned more from this forum than probably anywhere else. A good book I would highly recommend is Celiac Disease: A Hidden Epidemic by Dr. Peter Green, director of the Celiac Disease Center at Columbia University. A new version came out earlier this year. There are also some good websites like the May Clinic Open Original... -
ARCHIVED Tribe Hummus
sa1937 replied to foodiegurl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Who knows why! It is so aggravating. Or you email the company and don't know any more when you get their lame response to a simple question than you did before you even asked. Like Wal-Mart's Great Value chicken broth - it used to say gluten free on the label but now there's a CYA statement with an allergy warning: Contains milk. May contain traces... -
ARCHIVED Tribe Hummus
sa1937 replied to foodiegurl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have you checked the Tribe website? Open Original Shared Link I hate when companies are vague, suddenly change ingredients or come up with CYA statements even though their products may be gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Just Baked A Successful Loaf Of Bread!
sa1937 replied to AlysounRI's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Allison, too bad email has limitations!!! You have me almost convinced to buy a Zo (the big one). I should watch the prices as they usually promote this sort of thing for Mother's Day (NOT that I would ever get something like that...lol) The Zo certainly has received good reviews on Axxxxn. I also browsed through Annalise Robert's book...looks... -
ARCHIVED I'm So Careful. But All This... Bah.
sa1937 replied to Lycopene's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lcopene, I'm so sorry to hear you are so sick. Can you cancel your friend coming over today and just crawl back in bed? Are you newly gluten free? I've only been gluten free for two weeks and feel so much better, although I didn't feel great a week ago after cleaning out my gluteny pantry. It's such a huge learning curve and I'm still astonished that... -
ARCHIVED Tater Tot Casserole
sa1937 replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I saw several varieties of Health Valley soups at Giant this week...but no cream of mushroom. Maybe I'll be able to find it at another store. -
ARCHIVED Just Baked A Successful Loaf Of Bread!
sa1937 replied to AlysounRI's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thanks for the recipe, Allison! I'm starved right now!!! Unfortunately I don't have either Zo...I've been debating whether it's worth buying one or a KitchenAid stand mixer. I really don't have counter space to spare for either one.
