  1. Just wondering what country (please feel free to mention specific regions within a country) had the most gluten free dining options? I'd love everyone to chime in with their favorites and why.... PS The first and only time I've been anywhere outside the US since I was diagnosed was Toronto, Canada last year. It was ok, but I didn't see a whole lotta...
  2. Certain Wendy's have dedicated fryers and some don't. Ask if they have a dedicated fryer. If they do, then their fries will also be gluten free. Woo-hoo!!
  3. For anyone who is ok with using Canola, I've had great results with "Canolio" margarine, which is 100% canola. Among other stores, I've found it at Stop & Shop in their (albeit limited) organic food section. And I like the taste, too!
  4. I'm traveling to Seattle this week, and I'm looking for info on the best gluten free dining, especially on a budget. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  7. I was temping near Grand Central Station about 2 months ago and we called over to the nearest Hale & Hearty Soup location to order lunch. The girl on the phone was very nice and when I asked what they had that was gluten-free she found out which soups that day were OK for me. I'm pretty sure I had Manhattan Clam Chowder. mmmmmmmm....
  8. I hear a lot of talk about people starting Celiac support groups, etc. I'd just love to talk to some people regularly who are living gluten-free - particularly people in Long Island, NYC, anywhere nearby...
  9. First off...is the jury back yet on oats that have NOT been cross contaminated? A friend of mine gave me some oatmeal that has a wheat-free logo If I find out there is no cross-contamination, is it safe?? Also what's the deal with oat flour? There's a couple of breakfast cereals that have NO wheat ingredients but they do have oat flour, so I have avoided...
  10. I think the reason some people have more food intolerances is like Tom said... It seems that the sooner you catch the problem, the less damaged your villi are, and the better chance they have to recover. When they do recover, you find yourself able to tolerate certain non-gluten foods that you may have had trouble with in the past.
  11. My mother's always offering me breaded stuff like fried chicken. ahhh...patience is a virtue...
  12. Hi Maggie, As you probably already know, the Celiac disease messes with your villi, and makes your stomach very sensitive, which is why so many of us are initially diagnosed with IBS and other conditions. My doctor told me that once I'd gone gluten-free for 6 months, I just MIGHT find that I would gradually be able to tolerate dairy again (I had been...
  13. I've been eating the millet bread made by "Food For Life" and so far so good. I had tried some of their rice flour breads, but I found they didn't toast well, and the millet really does (for me). Good luck!
