  1. Bless you! My coat is on and I'm out the door to the store!
  2. On a separate thread I saw mention of Cadbury eggs. I love these, but have resisted this year because I wasn't sure whether they are gluten free or not....I am so hoping they are. What about Peeps?
  3. Thanks everybody. I hope some more folks weigh in on this. I don't eat anything that I don't prepare myself so I don't think it's gluten. I'm "over the top" when it comes to avoiding it. I've even made the dog gluten-free! My husband thinks I have developed OCD because when he comes home I meet him at the door with a wipey and make him clean his...
  4. I gave up on the store bought bread and bread mixes. I visited this link Open Original Shared Linkand made the Multi Grain Sandwich Bread. I have tweaked the recipe in many ways, but the recipe is pretty good just as it is. She also has lots of suggestions about making a successful loaf. One tip. Always make sure the bread is baked to 205 degrees or...
  5. Hi all, I have been getting new little blisters almost every day and it is likely due to the fact that I didn't know that eggs have fairly high amounts of iodine in them. I love eggs! We need 150 mcg of iodine a day. QUESTION #1. Does anyone know how long we can go with no or very low iodine intake without negative health consequences? QUESTION...
  6. eatmeat...what a nightmare! Is it any wonder that it takes so long to get a correct diagnosis for celiac/DH? When doctors can't even keep track of what they prescribed, return phone calls etc? I am so sorry that you had to go through that. I am a surgeon's daughter and he would be turning over in his grave to hear the things I have heard about on these...
  7. takeiteasy: Yes, I have seen people react to a hair color after years of using it. And I have seen some reactions bad enough to send people to the ER with their face and head swelled up like a basketball. If you think you are reacting to the product stop using it. Wait a little while and try a different one. I recommend that you do the patch test before...
  8. I've had this rash for over 7 years. Been gluten free for almost 9 months. Getting impatient! I think most of the folks on this forum agree that gluten needs to be eliminated everywhere to avoid getting it in your system. I also have a comment on hair color. I worked in a hair salon for many years. I have seen people react to hair color all of a sudden...
  9. My DH is gradually (very gradually) resolving on a gluten-free diet. I do still have lesions that are in various stages of healing. More often than not, they blister again before they heal. Lately I have noticed that I wake up fairly comfortable. They are flat, not itching, and look like they are going to heal. Then by the evening they are raised up...
  10. I am so sorry to hear about your reaction. I was really hoping that you would be successful with the Dapsone. Ditto to what Richard said. If you feel like you need to be seen immediately, head for the ER, urgent care or call 911. Regarding your question about Prednisone. My DH flared up alot when I went off Dapsone and I took a round of Prednisone...
  11. In my seven year search for a diagnosis I have looked at a lot of photos of eczema and psoriasis and this doesn't look like either one. I have had patches of DH that looked just like this. Not all my DH looks like this, but some of it does. I went through 3 dermatologists also and they all sent me away with a diagnosis of "stress eczema" or "neurotic...
  12. I think she has it backwards. With Aczone there is no requirement to have blood testing when you are using it. They give it to teenagers for acne. I guess if you covered your whole body with it there might be a problem. I just use it for a couple of days on new breakouts and it sometimes slows them down. Do an internet search on Aczone and you'll see...
  13. The blisters of DH tend to be fragile and I have rarely seen one for the reasons you have described. I feel the itch and rub or scratch and they're gone. All she needs is an active lesion to biopsy next to. You'll have to point her to the active lesion if she needs a blister to find it....ha, ha. She made need a blister to biopsy for other things, but...
  14. They did a baseline workup for blood count and liver function, then tested after two weeks on the Dapsone, then another two weeks and on and on. My liver function remained okay, but I became very anemic which is what made me have to stop taking the drug. They are supposed to test at regular intervals as long as you are on it. Your doc should be able to...
  15. Your post hit me where it hurts. I, too, waited 7 years to figure out what this is. I was told over and over again that I was a "picker" and had neurotic excoriations because I scratched so much. Thank God my marriage has survived, but my career has not, I am covered with scars and I no longer do the things I used to love because I have to be covered up...
  16. It is my understanding that the iodine causes existing antibodies (that have been previously caused by gluten)to flare into sores so it shouldn't cause further damage to the gut. The bodie's reaction to gluten in the gut is what causes the damage. I think I recall reading that sores in the mouth are not as common, but some people do get them.
  17. Couple of thoughts: 1) Even though you have been gluten free since September, the antibodies in your skin (that were formed when you were eating gluten) may take up to two years (sometimes as long as 10 years!) to clear out. Therefore, they can activate even without gluten ingestion. 2) Some of the things that can activate the antibodies are: iodine...
  18. Oops messed up. Even if you aren't consuming any gluten, the antibodies can remain in your skin for years and just lie in wait to be activated by the iodine. So, even if you aren't consuming gluten, you could react to iodine.
  19. Gluten creates the antibodies that end up in your skin just waiting to blister. The iodine in salt and shellfish etc. can activate those antibodies and cause a flare. It takes awhile after eliminating gluten from the diet for the antibodies to clear, but once they have cleared from your skin, then iodine should be no problem. Do be careful about first...
  20. dr google, I have many lesions that have never completely healed because they will blister again either on the lesion or very close to the lesion. Some have grown to the size of silver dollars at times. I have noticed that after being strictly gluten-free (for about 6 months) blisters that appear on previously unaffected skin can often "fizzle out". I...
  21. Hey Dr. Google, I just followed the link you posted in the other thread. Good information about trauma to the skin. My DH also started on my ankles. The next place was upper back and neck. Then lower legs and arms. I have a tendency to scratch and rub in my sleep and I'll just bet that the trauma from that is causing old lesions to blister over and over...
  22. Yep, I have been to dermatologists, psychiatrists (at the recommendation of the derms) and finally an allergy doc because I just knew that something I was ingesting was causing this. He tested me for all kinds of allergies and found nothing. Unfortunately he is not a derm so couldn't do a skin biopsy. One of the derms (who had diagnosed a friend of mine...
  23. I am providing a link to an article that talks about the fact that the antibodies can remain in the skin for up to 10 years and also the fact that it is thought that trauma to the skin can exacerbate the symptoms. There are also some very good images here. I have parked it on the treatment section, but if you click on the "Overview" section you can read...
  24. Absolutely! I have experienced the bubbling and blistering and itching with paper cuts and the worst was on the sites that the dermatologist biopsied. I also have blistered from clothing rubbing my skin. If I use bandaids I have to be careful when removing them not to traumatize the skin (soak them off in the bath) or I will get blisters where the skin...
