  1. EatMeat4Good: I can't remember which chocolate I was eating. I tried several. I'll give Dove a try because I do love dark chocolate and it is supposed to be good for you. Physicially AND emotionally! CiaMarie: I went to the link you provided. Wow! My mind is swimming. It seems to explain why almost any time I eat processed foods or try to...
  2. EatMeat4Good, At this point who knows! I am fixing to go on an elimination diet to figure out what is still bugging me. The other day all my lesions were calm and healing and I was all happy, then out of the blue I felt a tingle on my shoulder and there was this humongous blister! The biggest one I have ever had. As big around as an M & M. Now...
  3. This discussion is definitely thought provoking and while I was lying awake itching last night I started thinking about the fact that some of the information I have seen about this frustrating condition indicates that it may not be completely due to celiac/gluten sensitivity. So, no surprise that some of us are having a tough time getting rid of it. I went...
  4. I'm not surprised by this because I have seen literature that says the antibodies can stay in your skin for up to 10 years. So if you think about it...each time you have an accidental glutening and are depositing new antibodies you could theoretically be starting the 10 year clock running again. I have been strictly gluten free for 18 months now and...
  5. I think many people experience some crazy symptoms when going gluten-free. For me it seemed that my symptoms had to have a last big blow out. If you think about it, if you are celiac, and you are consuming gluten, your body's immune system is always in high gear trying to attack the enemy gluten. Is it possible that, with the elimination of gluten, your...
  6. STRESS ECZEMA...WHAT THE H###!!! That is a catch-all cop out diagnosis. I have heard it from three different derms and none of them even bothered to listen to what I had suffered with the itching and no sleep and the blistering etc. Try to be firm and insist that you feel like it is more than that. I wanted to yell at them and say that the rash was causing...
  7. My doc started me on 100mg and I saw results after 72 hours when I was free of the itching. The lesions started to heal in about 1 1/2 weeks, but I suffered bad side effects at that dose so I reduced the dose to 75mg and the side effects were not as bad, but the rash came back at the lower dose so I discontinued because it wasn't worth it.
  8. When I read your post this morning I got a lump in my throat. "Still itchy, Sad, but Hopeful" I know where you are coming from. When I joined the forum I chose "Hopeful" as part of my forum name! I used to tell my husband that I wanted to go somewhere and be put in a coma so I could sleep through the itch until they figured out what was wrong. I was...
  9. I have made almond milk and it is better than the stuff you buy. Almond meal is great in baking because you can reduce your flours by 1/4 and substitute the almond meal in almost any recipe. Aren't almonds also high in calcium?
  10. It's hard to tell because DH can present very differently on different people and depending where on the body it is. I can only tell you how mine behaves...I feel a sensation of kind of prickly and itchy, then small itchy red bumps appear. If I have managed not to scratch them they will have little fluid filled blisters on them. Most of the time I...
  11. Bread: I like Udi's best, but have to eat it sparingly because the gums in it bother me a little. There is a website out there "The Gluten Free Goddess". She has lots of good bread recipes with lots of instructions on how to make it correctly. Cooking: I got a cookbook "1000 Gluten-Free Recipes" by Carol Fenster and it is pretty good. She has a flour...
  12. Yes, stay away from things with the oat stuff. I had a dermatologist tell me to soak in Aveeno....WHAT A DISASTER! I have also discovered that things with tea tree oil (or extract) bugs my skin if I have active DH. Actually most "natural" products with flower and herb extracts aggravate my DH. The neomycin in Neosporin aggravates. Pramoxine in skin...
  13. Here is one definition I found: The elemental diet consists solely of a liquid formula containing vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fats and carbohydrates, and it's often delivered through a feeding tube. It is in liquid form and is used to feed people who are on a feeding tube. It also can be useful for IBS and Crohns. You can find preparations...
  14. I would say if it's gluten free and iodine free why not try? If you get miraculous results, please share! I have seen research indicating that an "Elemental Diet" can give some people quick relief. So I checked into that. It is a medical diet and it is expensive.
  15. OMG! I forgot...one dermatologist told me to soak in Aveeno. DON'T DO IT!!!!!!! When you said Calgon take me away I snapped!
  16. I'm a little late in replying, but last night when I read your post I was suffering right along with you. This is all so confusing isn't it! About dogs. I put my dog on a grain free diet because her food was full of gluten and I wanted ALL gluten out of my house. She is an older dog (13) and had been suffering from stiffness and joint pain, but after...
  17. Here is a link to very current article in "Skin and Allergy News" explaining that the practice of dermatology is moving away from "medical" dermatology and focusing on aesthetic dermatology and surgical procedures. Patients who are sick with chronic conditions are being pushed off to other specialties. Research is going by the wayside. All in the name...
  18. I, too, have read about this pill. I would think that it would work for DH if it stopped the body from reacting to gluten in the gut. The one problem I see with it is that, from what I have read, it only works for celiacs who have the DQ2 gene and not the ones who have the DQ8 gene. I am DQ8 or I'd be trying to find out how to get my hands on it!
  19. Since DH is on the skin, we have all usually started with a dermatologist. I had no luck with any because they didn't really take the time to listen to me. An allergist finally made the connection and diagnosed me. Since your daughter has been diagnosed, maybe start with the doctor who helped her. If he/she is not comfortable working with a skin condition...
  20. Be sure to post the results of your tests. I can't wait to hear what they show. My rash often looked just like your pix. We should start a separate thread where anyone who has good pictures of their rash and a definite diagnosis can post the pictures as an example of a definitive case of DH. I'd be curious to see all the different manifestations of the...
  21. Be sure to check any medications. Several years ago I took a weekly medicine for my bones that contained high levels of iodine. That's when my DH ended up covering about 60% of my body. Look for iodine and also povidone (which can contain iodine). I have found povidone in all kinds of pills/tablets.For example: Pepto Bismol tablets for stomach upset....
  22. No, you are NOT a hypochondriac! When my DH was at its worst, if I got a paper cut it would end up itchy and blistery. Same thing under where my bra straps would stress the skin and also across my back where my bra is. When one dermatologist insisted on doing a biopsy on a lesion it went crazy and I got huge blisters and it took forever to heal.
  23. The doctor that helped me diagnose my DH said that "vitiligo" (white spots)is common with celiac and DH is celiac. These pictures look exactly like what I am dealing with. First I get an incredibly itchy feeling under the skin, then it raises up into a little bump with fluid (still itchy). Usually it gets scratched because of the intense itching. These...
  24. Egg yolks are high in iodine. If I remember correctly I looked at the nutrient info on a box of Eggland's Best eggs and one egg had about 50 mcg of iodine which is a pretty big hit all at once.
  25. My itching is always the worst in the evening. A doctor explained to me that the body makes natural steroids and when you wake up in the morning the level is at its highest and it decreases throughout the day which is the reason for symptoms of many things being worse in the evening. For me, during this hot weather, I get worse after a day of being sticky...
