From everything I've read, any product from General Mills that states "Gluten Free" is made in a dedicated facility. "grabbed from the general mills' website" General Mills products labeled as “gluten free” do not contain wheat, rye, barley, oats or crossbred hybrid of these grains. They also do not contain ingredients that are derived from the...

ARCHIVED Restaurant Won't Let Me Bring In My Own Food
katerzz replied to Newbee's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
The problem is... arguing that Mcdonalds fries are safer for a celiac is crazy! Maybe if she brought him some gluten free pizza then I'd buy it. I could care less if the fries were from another restaurant so much as McDonalds fries are (typically) not gluten free. As a mom with a son who has Celiac Disease it is my JOB to plan ahead, always. Even when it... -
ARCHIVED Restaurant Won't Let Me Bring In My Own Food
katerzz replied to Newbee's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
It's against the health code in many states to allow any outside food to be brought into a restaurant. They aren't being unreasonable, they are covering their own butt. My husband has several "work lunches" he has to deal with. He always find something to eat.. or he eats before hand. Fruit, Veggies, Baked Potatoes.. typically safe. Therefore you cannot... -

ARCHIVED Is Heinz Ketchup Gluten Free? Van Camp's Beans?
katerzz replied to CNV2855's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There is ketchup and probably mustard in baked beans. My guess is that is why you got a positive. My family is gluten free and my husband is pretty sensitive. We eat both heinz ketchup AND we just had those baked beans with no problem. -
ARCHIVED What Do You Buy From Costco, Sams?
katerzz replied to Christine0125's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Samsclub chicken is gluten free. It says so right on the package and we have NEVER had any reaction to it. We buy a lot of products (most listed above) from both places. I would say Costco has more Gluten Free options available. Ours now carry gluten-free waffles also. -
ARCHIVED Can Kids Outgrow Gluten Intolerance?
katerzz replied to chilligirl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Do you also give her gluten free sugary foods like cake? I mean, I know my 10 month old would react to eating cupcakes. Gluten or not.... Also, why is she to young to be tested? My son was diagnosed at 18 months, and we were told the second my daughter showed any signs they would test her. We thought she showed signs when we first started solids.. then we... -
ARCHIVED Something Is Still Not Right :(
katerzz replied to ChristyL's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
After thinking about this more.. have you not had a follow up with the doctor?? Have them do another biopsy.... perhaps you really aren't as gluten free as you think you are. 6 months later the dr should have no problem doing a repeat biopsy and be able to help you get this under control. (along with an allergy test) Which, during the biopsy they can also... -
ARCHIVED Something Is Still Not Right :(

First off... get to an allergist. My son was diagnosed with Celiacs at 18 months but the first step the doctor wanted was for him to be tested. He had the skin prick test and it helped rule out a lot of stuff (including finding out he was NOT allergic to diary like originally thought) I would get the allergy tests done as soon as possible. I would NOT... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Baking: Tastes Funny!

Try better Batter gluten free flour... by far the best success I've had so far. Their website has tons of recipes too, our most recent success was making "box cake mix" and made pineapple upside down cake with it. There are a LOT of nasty gluten-free stuff out there.. you just gotta find the right things. Get the flour though, totally worth trying it... -

I have a 2 1/2 year old with celiacs. I also have a 3 1/2 year old without. I try to provide cost friendly food for them. Aside from normal gluten-free things like cheese sticks etc. these are some of our favorites. -Rice cakes --- excellent snack -Chex - Cheapest of all the cereals. You can even get coupons often for these online (just google... -
Hubby & son have had gluten-free pizza three times now from BJs and was great both times, no effects. It is amazing for moms like me who want to give their child a somewhat normal experience. Homemade pizza just isnt the same, and surely doesnt taste the same!

As far as fast foods: Wendy's has the best gluten free menu. Their patties are gluten-free, chili, potatoes, many salads, grilled chicken, frostys. Sonic is pretty safe. In -n-out is safe except for their buns. Everything else is gluten-free. Carls Jr has gluten-free options now. Mcdonalds, taco bell, jack in the box has nothing as far...

ARCHIVED High Igg Gliadin But Neg Everything Else
katerzz replied to mom2kae's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Blood tests are not the golden ticket for diagnosing celiac. We were told by the gastro doctor that especially in kids they can be false negative and that the only sure way to know is a biopsy. (adults and kids alike). My pediatrician kept telling us that he was just having issues he would grow out of... when we finally pushed for a biopsy they found 9 ULCERS... -

When I cleaned out my pantry I was on a mission to replace campbells soups... this is the recipe I found. I am real big on NOT having to use extra "flours" or special brands if we can avoid it. You cant store it, but it doesnt take long to make. Open Original Shared Link 1 cup cold milk 2 Tbsp cornstarch 1 1/2 Tbsp butter 1 tsp chicken bouillon... -

Try this: Works great but doesn't store. A lot healthier too I'd imagine since its not processed. 1 cup cold milk 2 Tbsp cornstarch 1 1/2 Tbsp butter 1 tsp chicken bouillon 1/2 tsp salt dash of pepper Instructions 1. In a small saucepan, whisk milk and cornstarch till well blended. 2. Stir in butter, bouillon, salt, and... -

ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance Vs. Celiac Disease..how Can You Tell?
katerzz replied to Ihv4loves's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
From my understanding no, I was also told that the only way to know for sure about Celiac is a positive biopsy. The GI doc said that is the only for sure way to be certain. -

I'm not sure all the blood tests they did, but there was a bunch. They also did stool samples. He was skin tested for 14 allergens and then had the biopsy done. I plan to get copies of all of the records/tests once we are done (still waiting on the genetics test) and will post as soon as I can get a list of everything that they tested for. -
ARCHIVED Would You Scope?
katerzz replied to renee28's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm so glad we had a scope and biopsy for my almost 2 year old. He had ulcers and all sorts of stuff from celiacs. I was also told by 3 different doctors that the only way to be sure one has celiac over something else is a positive biopsy. They can also find other causes for problems that are much like celiac symptoms. If you or your doctor have any doubts... -
ARCHIVED Nursing Infant Won't Sleep.
katerzz replied to gary'sgirl's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh, also my son was never "under weight" by any means. He has been 95% since his 2 month checkup. If there is any blood in stool then your doctor should be ordering tests to find out what's causing it. Demand it, these are your babies you have to worry about. -

-Frequent Stools (6-8 a day) -Loose, sometimes watery stools. Never hard or normal. -Stools smelled very bad, much different than daughter. -Really stinky breath, like it smelled like his stools. -Very Clingy -Dry Skin (diagnosed as "eczema by pediatrician, doubts now) -Gurbly Tummy You could literally hear his tummy constantly gurble and you could... -

katerzz replied to joeysmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My almost 2 year old was just diagnosed also. The first week was horrible. I felt like someone had died. I was so upset, angry, irritated and scared. By the 2nd week it got easier and now I am realizing we CAN live with this and we will succeed at it. I am sad for him but in just 2 weeks the difference between how he was and how hes feeling now is night and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Intolerance Vs. Celiac Disease..how Can You Tell?
katerzz replied to Ihv4loves's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son tested negative for wheat allergy, negative for the celiac blood test but had a positive biopsy (waiting on the genetics test results) for Celiac Disease. I would assume the only way to truly know is to go to a specialist and get tested.
