  1. Depression, mood swings, anger...those are all things that happen when I get glutenized. That has been the best part of going gluten free for me. My kids are good at helping me avoid gluten because the older ones remember my emotional instability and don't want to go back to that! Thank God we figured out the gluten connection when we did. It's...
  2. I agree with this. I am a night person anyway, but when I get glutened I will be tired but I cannot settle down. I'll get a lot of stuff done though.
  3. The smoke flavoring often makes me sick. My guess is that is what got you too.
  4. All I know is that I gave up on eating Lipton Onion Soup mix a couple years ago because every time I ate it I got sick. It wouldn't surprise me at all if it has gluten in it.
  5. My friend (who also has celiac disease)can have gluten free oats, but I cannot. They make me very, very sick. I hope for your sake you can have them. It would be nice to have oats again. Someday in heaven perhaps...
  6. I'll have to try those. Be careful with the gluten-free chicken strips they sell at Costco. Both times I tried them I got sick. Finally I noticed the fine print about processing in the same factory as other wheat products. Same thing with the Cashew Clusters. It is frustrating when people try to make things gluten-free but don't do it right...especially...
  7. When I have a reaction now I wonder, "How did I live and function every day feeling like this?!" Praising God that I finally feel better now. I also am thankful(sometimes)that I get sick from gluten because it reminds me that I am not making this crazy disease up.
  8. I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in Nov. '08 by a blood test and have been gluten-free since. About the same time I was diagnosed, I also found out I was pregnant. Because of this I never had the biopsy. I feel so great now (unless, of course, I come in contact with gluten-I'm very sensitive to it). However, I am a bit confused by the gastroenterologist...
  9. It is nice to read all of your comments. You all are giving me the courage to make our house gluten free as well. I have Celiac Disease and am frequently getting sick from cross-contamination. My husband wants to make the house gluten free but I didn't feel it would be fair for my family to be denied "good" food because of me. It seems gluten free food...
  10. Things are good in Minnesota! I also feel recovered from my brush with gluten this weekend. I am so glad I joined the community here at celiac.com. After a year and a half of going it alone, I'm so glad to have other people who can understand what it is like to live with Celiac Disease.
  11. I am on the north side of the Cities in Coon Rapids. I have been gluten free for a year and a half. Rather than getting all the specialty foods I have tried to find "regular" gluten free foods. I eat a lot of beans and rice. I figured out how to make the cilantro-lime rice from Chipotle! It is delicious! I have found Target usually has the cheapest...
  12. I'm curious to know how you all handle it when a friend cooks for you. I'm not talking about someone who is well-educated in celiac disease and how careful you need to be. I'm talking about the friend with a big heart who knows you need to be gluten free and goes to all kinds of trouble to find gluten-free recipes and products, but doesn't know anything...
  13. I hadn't thought of my own scissors or can-opener. Most of the other tips I've already learned the hard way. It's nice to know I'm not the only one living this way!
  14. I have a "Gluten Cupboard" as you were talking about, but it never occured to me to have them use the counter above that for preparing their food. I also have red cooking utensils and used a red marker to write all over my colander. I love the idea of using red tape on my special containers and bags. I've been labeling them, but sometimes the packages are...
  15. I like the idea of making all the sandwiches for lunches at one time. My kids do not have hot lunch at their school so they make sandwiches daily. This would help them and me to enjoy our week more. Great idea! (Does anyone know if you can freeze sandwiches?)
  16. Thanks for the tips! It's a good idea to start cutting back now. Maybe they won't even notice we are becoming a gluten-free house.
  17. I have had many of my children tested...all came back negative. I'm still not convinced my son is negative as he is almost 7 years old and looks like he's 4. (I looked the same way as a child.) We have tested him twice, both times negative. One doctor recommended doing a dna test for my kids, another doctor said that is not necessary. I get so confused...
  18. I seem to be very sensitive. I have figured out they can't mix in the house and I'm nervous to even touch their food. I have my own colander, spatula, and cooking spoon. What about metal pots? I figure we can put those in the dishwasher to clean them after scrubbing them by hand, but I can still see discoloration. Could the pots still be contaminated...
  19. I was diagnosed with celiac disease in November 2008. Since then I have been diligent in my efforts to avoid all gluten, but I'm often getting sick anyway(a few times a week). I am the only one in my family who is gluten free. I have 6 kids and a husband who love their gluten laden food. My husband wants us to become a gluten-free house for my sake, but I...
  20. I also got very sick on Propel recently. The ingredients looked safe, but I sure felt miserable. I even looked on the internet to see if Propel has gluten. Everything looked fine, but I know better. After several days of being sick and feeling better as soon as I quit drinking it...that is pretty obvious to me. Did you figure out what exactly makes us...
