Good, inexpensive investment. I wanted to add that my best friend from college is 6 foot 5 (big boy!). He's travels extensively for work and he swears by the resistance bands. He says he gets a great work out anywhere. Let us know how they work out for you. ~Wheatfreedude~ -
ARCHIVED New At Gluten Free
Wheatfreedude replied to rsupergirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Take it from me (as I have an enormous amount of experience in this department). If Wal-Mart labels their Great Value or Sam's Choice as gluten free, it is ABSOLUTELY Gluten Free. When you are a manufacturer and you pack under the Wal-Mart labels, legal liability falls just as much on the retailer as it does on the manufacturer. And not to bore you any... -
ARCHIVED Pruning The Ornamental Tree

Glad that you're seeing the benefits of rest and sleep... and switching up your routine. Since we are on the agricultural analogies, I'll add yet one more thought regarding your above comment. We learned in grade school that plants need water, sun, and fertile soil. Does that mean that you DOUSE the plant several times a day? Does that meant that... -
How many of you have been to a traditional French or English garden in or out of the United States and seen those perfectly manicured hedges? Or, have you seen the really cool bushes that are cut into Disney characters at their respective theme parks? It's almost amazing how perfectly the horticulturalist gets them just right! Well, there are some similarities...

Hi Vicky: You actually can get a pretty decent work out with a set of "Resistance Bands" and there are a variety of them available on Amazon. All of the sets contain a variety of sizes/strengths AND they include an instructional booklet too. Attach them to a truck door, hotel door, tree or post and you have your own gym in minutes. ~Wheatfreedude... -
ARCHIVED What Should I Be Looking For In Salad Dressing?
Wheatfreedude replied to lischro's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am SO glad to see this posting for Annie's Naturals. They have really good gluten free salad dressings. But just because they are called "SALAD" dressings, don't limit them to just salads. For those non-vegetarians... use their: Shitake Mushroom or Lemon & Chive as a fish marinade for about 4 hours. Lite Honey Mustard as a pork chop/tenderloin... -

Oops! I forgot something. Even though I live in a metropolitan area, my neighbors owns 6 chickens. They give me eggs for free every week. I had a three egg omelette this morning. -

Hi Vicky: I must tell you right now, that losing that weight is a "high five" in my book! So congrats to you. Keep in mind that ANY individual could do a thousand crunches a day and have well defined ab muscles. But if there is a layer of fat hiding those abs, you won't be able to see the definition. So, I would stay on the same path/diet that has... -
Nice spice mixes! Believe it or not, my favorite egg spices are actually designed for pork/beef roasts. It creates a unique flavor -- even though it wasn't designed for eggs. ~Wheatfreedude~

Don't fret, we've all been there and this is the group to help guide you on your journey. In order to help, what does your daily diet look like (please note all food and beverages including water). What type of proteins are you consuming. Proteins are the building blocks of mass and muscle. Once we take a look at that, we can provide further direction...

Yes, your local spice shop is FULL of a variety flavors that "add flavor" and not fat. Go have a conversation with the owner and they will have a plethora of ideas for combinations. And be adventurous! Instead of dashing the typical salt onto a hard boiled egg or in an omellette, use a spice that might just be for pork chops of even a roast. I know...

I actually have seen Food Inc. (twice). Unfortunately, there are some lousy agricultural producers out there. But, that doesn't mean that they all are operating under those conditions. Take it from me, as I have personally toured egg, pork, sausage, dairy, potato, and value added operations. Some of these operations are so clean, it's amazing. Others... -
ARCHIVED New At Gluten Free
Wheatfreedude replied to rsupergirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Unfortunately, you need to heighten your precautions with ANY canned or jarred product. With that said, you'll need to read the label closely. Take it from this food guy, many manufacturers use flour to give those beans that "gravy" flavor. In defense of the food industry, MOST use corn starch to do this. To prove it, you'll need to ready and/every... -

I'm really not "sold" on cage free eggs. I think there is a plethora of sources for affordable eggs that don't have to be cage free. Look in your local retailer for specials on a dozen conventional eggs for only .99 cents. Boil those bad boys and subsequently refrigerate them for a twelve separate snacks throughout the day. All you need is some running... -

Ah, you've come to the right guy regarding protein. Why am I not seeing whole frozen fish fillets in your above diet? That should be the FIRST animal protein on your list (high protein, low fat, Omega 3 fats). You can buy them frozen and portioned at Costco or SAM'S. I typically take the frozen portion out of the freezer the night before and put it into... -
I have, yet, a few more additions and "secrets" for your eggs. Don't get me wrong, our body needs our GOOD fats (fish oil, nuts, avocado, etc.).... but when making prepared foods adopt a new motto: "Add flavor not fat". With that said, I applaud your addition of red peppers. I actually buy the jarred and pre-roasted whole ones. You only need to pull...

Amen! As much as I preach about this, friends and co-workers always grab the "usual suspects" when they start feeling tired (Diet sodas, coffee, candy bars, and sugar). If you are that type of person or you know of someone, have them try a week of substituting a HI-PROTEIN in the afternoon instead of the aforementioned items: - Hard Boiled Egg - Low...

There have been numerous postings about people who want to get more protein on the go. Instead of your SWEET favorite "before bed snack", consider 2 hard boiled eggs instead (sans the yoke if you want to cut the cholesterol). Remember, when you sleep... your body gets nothing for 8 hours. You might as well give your stomach a fill of nature's nearly...

ARCHIVED Can Ab Workouts Aggravate Intestinal Inflammation?
Wheatfreedude replied to bridgetm's topic in Sports and Fitness
Try and stretch your whole body as our muscles are connected to one another. So even though you think that you're just going to use your shoulders and arms to kayak... work your lower back/abs/quads/calves Your body will thank you! ~Wheatfreedude~ -

Wheatfreedude replied to bridgetm's topic in Sports and Fitness
A quick hint. Do NOT do crunches every night, you want to give them a rest for a day -- really any muscle needs at least a day's rest to build. Think about pruning an ornamental bush in a garden. If you prune it EVERY day (break it down) it will never grow back. You want to give it some time to grow. ~Wheatfreedude~ -

Wheatfreedude replied to bridgetm's topic in Sports and Fitness
Are all of you stretching before any physical activity? And, I not just talking about sports, weight lifting and running. If you're going to chop wood it makes sense to stretch first. Or, if you're going to dig in the garden for a few hours it makes sense. With that said, are you stretching before ab exercises? You strain ANY of those small muscles... -
ARCHIVED Protein: Gluten Free And Dairy Free And Soy Free?
Wheatfreedude replied to munchkinette's topic in Sports and Fitness
Be VERY careful when purchasing beef jerky. Always read the ingredient statement as many of them contain soy sauce. And for hypersensitive folks like me, it's just enough to ruin a day. Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way! -
ARCHIVED Protein: Gluten Free And Dairy Free And Soy Free?
Wheatfreedude replied to munchkinette's topic in Sports and Fitness
If you are looking to put on lean mass, you actually need protein before AND after your work out. One of the easiest, cheapest and most convenience is the 100% all natural turkey breast from Costco. It comes in a 3 pack that tear apart for about $6.00. Each package is resealable. You can roll them up or eat the whole thing out of the package with a knife... -

I actually was a VP at one of the nation's largest organic frozen food companies. My department was responsible for returning the type of phone call that you placed. My ex-staff was VERY knowledgeable about ingredients and answered the items 100% honestly. So, I don't see it as a gamble - trust these people. Secondly, don't worry about natural flavors...
