  1. I had a lot of the same symptoms as you. I was diagnosed with IBS when I was 19 years old by a gastroenterologist who did not run any tests. He actually told me that I had probably been sexually abused and that I had abdominal pain because I was repressing it. I attended medical school from 1999-2003 and we had one lecture on celiac disease and a guest speaker...
  2. Walmart's generic women's multivitamins and prenatal vitamins are labeled gluten free, just as an FYI.

    ARCHIVED Hair Loss...?

I lost a ton of hair when I first started to get sick, it started to grow back after about 3 or 4 months of being gluten free and is now back to normal. My fingernails grow much faster now too.
  4. Hi Judy, Please report back on your experience at the meeting on 12/9. I went once (8/10) and it was a strange experience. The people seemed very disgruntled overall. The vice president came in with a big Subway bag and ate a 6 inch sub and Cool Ranch Doritoes in front of all of us (I later found out she does not have celiac disease). There was not a speaker...
  5. Hi all, I live in Green Bay too and was diagnosed about 6 months ago. I did make it to one of the support group meetings at St. Mary's and it was extremely unhelpful. I think that the group is now defunct. I would love to meet up for an informal "support" group from time to time. There is now a gluten-free restaurant open in Ledgeview called Caffe Naturally...
  6. Tocopherol is a vitamin E derivative, it does not contain gluten.
  7. The Vanilla and Chocolate soft serve at DQ and Dilly Bars and Starkisses are gluten free. Dairy Queen had a great list of gluten free items on their website which was recently updated. McDonald's ice cream and chocolate and vanilla milkshakes are also gluten free. Breyer's Natural Ice Creams (chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry) are gluten free. Most of...
  8. Hi, I am recently diagnosed and live in Green Bay too. There is a support group that meets every other month at St. Mary's Hospital, I think it is the 1st or 2nd Thurs. around 7pm (last meeting was in June so next is August). I will post when I find out the August date. P.S. Have you been to Grassroots Grocery in DePere?
  9. I had increasingly worse stiffness in my fingers and left knee pain before I was diagnosed. I had given up running because the knee pain was so bad some days. The hand stiffness and knee pain went away within a few days of being gluten free and I was able to run a 10K a few weeks later. Whenever I get "glutened," my hands and L knee (and sometimes ankles...
  10. Hi Heather, Balsamic vinegar does not contain gluten and is safe for celiacs. Many salad dressings do contain gluten though, so I stick with plain old olive oil and balsamic vinegar when I have salads at restaurants. Your bloating and abdominal cramping are pretty tyical symptoms for getting glutened. I am new on here too, like you. J
  11. I was diagnosed a few months ago and had similar lab values to you (in terms of WBC, platelets, and ferritin), after being gluten-free for a few months. I am pretty sure that it is celiac-related...I think that in some cases the autoimmune process involves the part of the bone marrow which produces white blood cells and platelets. One month later my CBC counts...
  12. I got extremely sick after eating one regular Reese's cup during my 3rd month of being gluten-free (this was in April 2010). It was the only thing which I ate during the 12 hours before getting sick, so I am sure that it was not from anything else, and I had all of my usual symptoms afterwards (bloating, sharp abd pains, diarrhea, joint pains, mouth sores...
  13. I just made the Trader Joe's brown rice rotini for dinner tonight and was pleased. My non-celiac husband thought that is tasted like regular pasta.
  14. Hi, My symptoms after getting glutened are similar to yours. I get bloating and abdominal pains pretty quickly, but the next day I experience joint pains in my fingers, left knee, and ankles, along with fatigue, a low grade fever, and then bruising and mouth sores. It takes about 3-4 days to feel pretty much back to normal and then about a week to feel totally...
