  1. I tried the Iodine patch test last night. (I have been having hive-like rashes for 6 months) I put some 2% iodine (the strongest I could find at a drug store) on a piece of gauze and taped a bandage over it near my left elbow. I read that you should leave it on for 48 hours, but after about an hour and a half it started burning very badly. I took it off...
  2. Thanks for the help guys. I will wait for the endoscopy biopsy results before I push for a skin biopsy. Hopefully will get them in a couple of days. These hives have been driving me crazy for 6 months! And taking several prescription antihistamines is pretty expensive too. I was concerned becuase most descriptions of DH are that it is painful...
  3. In my experience, the doctors seem to want to test for everything else fist. It's as if they don't believe celiac exists, but they will diagnose you with IBS in a heartbeat You may have to stand up for yourself and really push the doc to do more testing. That's what I had to do. Good luck!
  4. Thanks for the advice. I don't know if I would have checked tea for gluten. You find it in the oddest places!
  5. Keratosis pilaris can be associated with celiac disease. It is small red bumps usually on thighs, arms, back and butt areas. They can be itchy. The skin is also more reddened in general. You get keratin plugs in the follicles. Also, eczema, which I also have, can be patches of dry scaly skin that is itchy. It is worse in cold, dry weather. It too...
  6. I have been dealing with terrible hives along with other problems that have lead me to believe I may have celiac disease. I have seen a dermatologist, immunologist, GP and GI doctor. All say it is hives and have not done any biopsies of my skin. I have had an endoscopy and biopsy done and am currently waiting for the results. I have been having them...
  7. Haven't noticed any changes yet. I'll give it a good three month trial though.
  8. Your symptoms sound a lot like mine. I have not been diagnosed yet, but I have had bloodwork and an endoscopy done. The blood work came back negative, but there is a high rate of false negatives. I'm waiting on the results from the endoscopy and biopsy. I would recommend getting those tests done. Just be sure you don't go on the gluten free diet before...
  9. I too have been told I have IBS. I really don't think IBS is a valid diagnosis. There has got to be some underlying condition cause your tummy to be upset. I had the bloodwork come back as negative too. I was told by my immunologist that the false negative rate is very high. He suggested I get and endoscopy and colonoscopy done. I had them done Monday...
  10. Many people think that our bodies are not designed to consume gluten anyway. I'm sure he'd be fine without it as long as he got some other sources of fiber and protein.
  11. I have most of the same symptoms as you except for the weight issues. My chest pain is from acid reflux. I used to feel it as a burning sensation (heartburn), but now it is more of a sharp aching pain. I had an endoscopy done Monday and they saw Barrett's esophagus (inflammation of the esophagus caused by acid erosion). I am on Prilosec and I am trying...
  12. I found out that I need to stop drinking soda anyway, because of my Barrett's esophagus. I'll be sticking to water and tea now. I absolutely love hot tea of almost any kind Coffee is going to be hard to give up though... Still waiting for biopsy results. I'm hoping to have them by Wednesday or Thursday. I'll keep you guys posted.
  13. Has anyone heard of people having trouble with artificial sweeteners? I drink a lot of diet soda (2 per day), but I had been drinking it long before the hives and GI problems. I know I probably should quit. It doesn't help my acid reflux
  14. It's good to know that not everyone agrees with the IBS diagnosis. Most medical people think it's valid, I just think it's an excuse to keep looking for the root of the problem. I am starting the gluten-free diet and if that doesn't work, I'll try other foods like soy . I eat a lot of that too. My fiance is vegetarian. I also get some facial flushing...
  15. I've been lactose intolerant for most of my life, and the other problems have been pretty chronic too. If I do have celiac, I've probably had it for a long time. Maybe this episode is the first major flare up.
  16. I am starting the diet tomorrow! And yes, I have been able to find lots of information from this site. It's good to hear from people with personal experience. There are so many different types of symptoms! The medical sites, just don't cover everything.
  17. I had a endoscopy and colonoscopy done on Monday 11/29 and am waiting for the results. I have been having horrendous hives since June and diarrhea, bloating and gas since July/August. I've been tested for allergies and have had the celiac blood testing done. No allergies and negative blood test. I've seen and dermatologist, allergist, immunologist and...
  18. I haven't been diagnosed for sure yet, but I do suffer from hives. They get worse when I drink any kind of alcohol. As taken from the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology website, "Scratching, alcohol beverages, exercise, and emotional stress may worsen the itching." Open Original Shared Link I suffer from chronic hives possibly related...
  19. I have wondered about this too. One of my meds is small white beads inside of a capsule. I know this is gross, but sometimes I see the little beads in my stool (especially if it's loose). I had not ever seen that until a couple of months ago. I can also tell that I am not completely absorbing it. It is an anti-anxiety med with very quick withdrawal symptoms...
  20. No swelling this morning. I took benadryl all day yesterday and before bed last night. For now I guess I will keep taking the antibiotic. I just have to take it today and tomorrow. Once I am off of it for a couple of days, I will be calling the doc to schedule biopsies. I don't think it helped much.
  21. I have had irregular periods for about 2 years now. It started with spotting in between periods that turned into having a period every other week. Now sometimes I get really long periods (10-14 days). I had a hysteroscopy and D&C to look for fibroids and polyps, but nothing was found. I have switched birth control pills several times and still have...
  22. I've had hives constanly since June. I've been tested for allergies (food and environmental), nothing came back positive. I've seen an allergist and an immunologist. Their diagnosis was chronic idopathic urticaria. It is an apparently an autoimmune reaction and so is celiac. The benadryl is helping right now. If the swelling is still there in the AM...
  23. This morning I woke up with a swollen upper lip and puffy eyes. I am not diagnosed celiac and I am still eating gluten. I have had a lot of GI issues and have suffered with hives the past few months and many other celiac related symptoms my whole life. I am in the process of attempting to get diagnosed. I have not started the diet yet because the doc...
